New Challenges on Crossplatform Digital Contents

    Get PDF
When we speak about devices and platforms, generally we think about those of general use which are currently available (mainly smartphones and tablets). Surely, we would forget all those which are on the way (watches, glasses, cars) and those which are coming. The Internet of Things will transform the technological world in which we are into an amalgamation of devices and interfaces. This paper analyses the challenge for the coming years of getting all these new devices to communicate between them, regardless of their technology and the platforms they use, and it is based on the works done under the Visio Project, funded by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism. Finally, a truly universal platform to avoid market fragmentation and provide access to information and services is proposed

Using Open Street Maps data and tools for indoor mapping in a Smart City scenario

Ponencias, comunicaciones y pósters presentados en el 17th AGILE Conference on Geographic Information Science "Connecting a Digital Europe through Location and Place", celebrado en la Universitat Jaume I del 3 al 6 de junio de 2014.This paper explains the experience of implementing a Smart City scenario using Open Street Maps tools and data. An indoor mapping system including not only a localization and navigation solution, but also a natural speaking environment as a human to machine interface is proposed. The solution is based on a NoSQL database for storing GIS data, a public web service layer used to obtain information, user’s current position, navigation routes and human language interaction. An Android mobile client application is used for providing the proper access to all these services. As a case study, the system was successfully implemented in the U-TAD University. The results shown in this paper can be considered as a demonstration of the previous work related to indoor data representation (IndoorOSM draft) and the navigation solution designed at the Universidade do Minho based on Open Trip Planner. In addition, FHC25 includes a tagging proposal for human language recognition systems

Scientific impact in articles of the application of oriental body-mind therapy practices (2006-2010).

    Get PDF
Global research on mind-body therapies is analysed, by focussing on scholarly articles on three Eastern disciplines (yoga, tai chi and qi gong) and three procedures (meditation, breathing exercises and relaxation). The bibliographic research was done using the Scopus database. The search was limited to the biomedical areas and to the years 2006-2010. We have analysed 2,363 articles published by 959 different journals. They were written by 6,583 authors from 2,162 institutions in 65 countries. Indicators of scientific productivity and impact were calculated for institutions, countries and subject areas, and the collaboration between authors and institutions was also determined. We have observed a progressive increase of publications, especially on yoga and meditation, particularly from universities in the US, India and China with a marked concentration in the areas of internal medicine, mental health and oncology

    The Percepción Smart Campus system

Ponènica presentada a IberSPEECH 2014, VIII Jornadas en Tecnología del Habla and IV Iberian SLTech Workshop, celebrat a Las Palmas de Gran Canaria els dies 19-21 de novembre de 2014This paper presents the capabilities of the Smart Campus system developed during the Percepcion project. The Smart Campus system is able to locate the user of the application in a limited environment, including indoor location. The system is able to show routes and data (using virtual reality) on the different elements of the environment. Speech queries could be used to locate places and get routes and information on that places

From the analysis of one of the courses with the highest participation, we will evaluate whether it is possible to extract patterns of user behavior depending on the resources and activities that make up the course, with a double purpose. On the one hand to identify actions to improve the structure, composition and programming of activities, and on the other hand, to identify the workload associated to the use of this type of platforms

Outstanding challenges in the transferability of ecological models

    Get PDF
Predictive models are central to many scientific disciplines and vital for informing management in a rapidly changing world. However, limited understanding of the accuracy and precision of models transferred to novel conditions (their ‘transferability’) undermines confidence in their predictions. Here, 50 experts identified priority knowledge gaps which, if filled, will most improve model transfers. These are summarized into six technical and six fundamental challenges, which underlie the combined need to intensify research on the determinants of ecological predictability, including species traits and data quality, and develop best practices for transferring models. Of high importance is the identification of a widely applicable set of transferability metrics, with appropriate tools to quantify the sources and impacts of prediction uncertainty under novel conditions

Phase I prognostic online (PIPO): A web tool to improve patient selection for oncology early phase clinical trials

Immunotherapy; Phase 1 trials; Prognostic modelInmunoterapia; Ensayos de fase 1; Modelo pronósticoImmunoteràpia; Assajos de fase 1; Model pronòsticPurpose Patient selection in phase 1 clinical trials (Ph1t) continues to be a challenge. The aim of this study was to develop a user-friendly prognostic calculator for predicting overall survival (OS) outcomes in patients to be included in Ph1t with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) or targeted agents (TAs) based on clinical parameters assessed at baseline. Methods Using a training cohort with consecutive patients from the VHIO phase 1 unit, we constructed a prognostic model to predict median OS (mOS) as a primary endpoint and 3-month (3m) OS rate as a secondary endpoint. The model was validated in an internal cohort after temporal data splitting and represented as a web application. Results We recruited 799 patients (training and validation sets, 558 and 241, respectively). Median follow-up was 21.2 months (m), mOS was 10.2 m (95% CI, 9.3–12.7) for ICIs cohort and 7.7 m (95% CI, 6.6–8.6) for TAs cohort. In the multivariable analysis, six prognostic variables were independently associated with OS – ECOG, number of metastatic sites, presence of liver metastases, derived neutrophils/(leukocytes minus neutrophils) ratio [dNLR], albumin and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels. The phase 1 prognostic online (PIPO) calculator showed adequate discrimination and calibration performance for OS, with C-statistics of 0.71 (95% CI 0.64–0.78) in the validation set. The overall accuracy of the model for 3m OS prediction was 87.2% (95% CI 85%–90%). Conclusions PIPO is a user-friendly objective and interactive tool to calculate specific survival probabilities for each patient before enrolment in a Ph1t. The tool is available at https://pipo.vhio.net/.The research leading to these results has received funding from “la Caixa” Foundation (LCF/PR/CE07/50610001).
