This article proposes a literary analyze that examines the influences of the Baroque period in Francisco Brines (Oliva, 1931), such as the topic of the gaze from the balcony, considering also Marc Richir's (2006) phenomenological interpretations about Time and Space. Brines' manners and topics can be considered metaphysical or philosophical, but we must not disregard his sensualist approach, that frames his poems in a fragrant Mediterranean landscape. Undoubtedly the sight is the perfect companion to understand Brines through Husserl's phenomenological prism

The purpose of this article is to try an approach to the philosophical analyseand the literary proposals that claim that a new symbolic order has been created as a consequence of the 11/9 events. International politic and economic have changed, but, above all, our access to the reality have drastically mutated. This Change has lead to a new Semiology in our epistemological approach to the real. Contemporary fiction is a reflection of the relationship of the individuals with the new ontological situation

This article analyzes the work of Javier Pérez Andújar, which reports his life experience as a resident of the suburbs of Barcelona. In one of those neighborhoods created in the 1960s in towns bordering the big cities that today are integrated into their metropolitan areas. His narrative is autofictional and fragmentary, the only plot axis is his person and his urban spatial delimitation. Based on strictly personal material, Pérez Andújar presents two works that serve as a generational portrait and an identity framework for all those people who grew up at the same time as the neighborhoods in which they lived. He offers a commitment to social and critical literature from its own narrative style easily recognizable in its books, newspaper articles and radio interventions. This article analyzes the work of Javier Pérez Andújar, which reports his life experience as a resident of the suburbs of Barcelona. Twisted Nano-optics: Manipulating Light at the Nanoscale with Twisted Phonon Polaritonic Slabs

Recent discoveries have shown that when two layers of van der Waals (vdW) materials are superimposed with a relative twist angle between their respective in-plane principal axes, the electronic properties of the coupled system can be dramatically altered. Here, we demonstrate that a similar concept can be extended to the optics realm, particularly to propagating polaritons, hybrid light-matter interactions. To do this, we fabricate stacks composed of two twisted slabs of a polar vdW crystal (MoO3) supporting low-loss anisotropic phonon polaritons (PhPs), and image the propagation of the latter when launched by localized sources (metal antennas). Our images reveal that under a critical angle the PhPs isofrequency curve (determining the PhPs momentum at a fixed frequency) undergoes a topological transition. Remarkably, at this angle, the propagation of PhPs is strongly guided along predetermined directions (canalization regime) with no geometrical spreading (diffraction-less). These results demonstrate a new degree of freedom (twist angle) for controlling the propagation of polaritons at the nanoscale with potential for nano-imaging, (bio)-sensing, quantum applications and heat management

Wepsim: an online interactive educational simulator integrating microdesign, microprogramming, and assembly language programming

Our educational project has three primary goals. First, we want to provide a robust vision of how hardware and software interplay, by integrating the design of an instruction set (through microprogramming) and using that instruction set for assembly programming. Second, we wish to offer a versatile and interactive tool where the previous integrated vision could be tested. The tool we have developed to achieve this is called WepSIM and it provides the view of an elemental processor together with a microprogrammed subset of the MIPS instruction set. In addition, WepSIM is flexible enough to be adapted to other instruction sets or hardware components (e.g., ARM or x86). Third, we want to extend the activities of our university courses, labs, and lectures (fixed hours in a fixed place), so that students may learn by using their mobile device at any location, and at any time during the day. This article presents how WepSIM has improved the teaching of Computer Structure courses by empowering students with a more dynamic and guided learning process. In this paper, we show the results obtained during the experience of using the simulator in the Computer Structure course of the Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science and Engineering at University Carlos III of Madrid

Historic evolution of the coastline in the sourthern sector of the Cadiz Bay

    Get PDF

Reconstructing the historical shoreline evolution of the Northern Bay of Cádiz (SW Spain) from geomorphological and geoarchaeological data

    Get PDF
During the last 3 ka, different human communities occupied the Bay of Cádiz (SW Spain), including Phoenician, Carthaginian, Roman, Medieval and Modern settlements. Traces of such historical occupations have been recognized along the bay from a geoarchaeological point of view. Some of them bear a palaeogeographical interest related to the historical location of the shoreline. At the same time, Holocene sedimentary units and geomorphological elements identified along the bay can be interpreted as evidences of its morphological evolution. The objective of the present paper is to represent all the available data about archaeological sites and geomorphology in the northern Bay of Cádiz, with the aim of combining both sources of data for elaborating a simple proposal of landscape evolution during the last 3 millennia. The base for mapping was multiple, from historical aerial photographs to satellite imagery and a digital terrain model with a maximum resolution of 0.35 m.12 página

[EN]DNA sequencing is a fundamental technique in molecular biology that allows the exact sequence of nucleotides in a DNA sample to be read. Over the past decades, DNA sequencing has seen significant advances, evolving from manual and laborious techniques to modern high-throughput techniques. Despite these advances, interpretation and analysis of sequencing data continue to present challenges. Artificial Intelligence (AI), and in particular machine learning, has emerged as an essential tool to address these challenges. The application of AI in the sequencing pipeline refers to the use of algorithms and models to automate, optimize and improve the precision of the sequencing process and its subsequent analysis. The Sanger sequencing method, introduced in the 1970s, was one of the first to be widely used. Although effective, this method is slow and is not suitable for sequencing large amounts of DNA, such as entire genomes. With the arrival of next generation sequencing (NGS) in the 21st century, greater speed and efficiency in obtaining genomic data has been achieved. However, the exponential increase in the amount of data produced has created a bottleneck in its analysis and interpretation

[EN]DNA sequencing is one of the fields that has advanced the most in recent years within clinical genetics and human biology. However, the large amount of data generated through next generation sequencing (NGS) techniques requires advanced data analysis processes that are sometimes complex and beyond the capabilities of clinical staff. Therefore, this work aims to shed light on the possibilities of applying hybrid algorithms and explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) to data obtained through NGS. The suitability of each architecture will be evaluated phase by phase in order to offer final recommendations that allow implementation in clinical sequencing workflow

Deep Symbolic Learning Architecture for Variant Calling in NGS

[EN]The Variant Detection process (Variant Calling) is fundamental in bioinformatics, demanding maximum precision and reliability. This study examines an innovative integration strategy between a traditional pipeline developed in-house and an advanced Intelligent System (IS). Although the original pipeline already had tools based on traditional algorithms, it had limitations, particularly in the detection of rare or unknown variants. Therefore, SI was introduced with the aim of providing an additional layer of analysis, capitalizing on deep and symbolic learning techniques to improve and enhance previous detections. The main technical challenge lay in interoperability. To overcome this, NextFlow, a scripting language designed to manage complex bioinformatics workflows, was employed. Through NextFlow, communication and efficient data transfer between the original pipeline and the SI were facilitated, thus guaranteeing compatibility and reproducibility. After the Variant Calling process of the original system, the results were transmitted to the SI, where a meticulous sequence of analysis was implemented, from preprocessing to data fusion. As a result, an optimized set of variants was generated that was integrated with previous results. Variants corroborated by both tools were considered to be of high reliability, while discrepancies indicated areas for detailed investigations. The product of this integration advanced to subsequent stages of the pipeline, usually annotation or interpretation, contextualizing the variants from biological and clinical perspectives. This adaptation not only maintained the original functionalities of the pipeline, but was also enhanced with the SI, establishing a new standard in the Variant Calling process. This research offers a robust and efficient model for the detection and analysis of genomic variants, highlighting the promise and applicability of blended learning in bioinformaticsThis study has been funded by the AIR Genomics project (with file number CCTT3/20/SA/0003), through the call 2020 R&D PROJECTS ORIENTED TO THE EXCELLENCE AND COMPETITIVE IMPROVEMENT OF THE CCTT by the Institute of Business Competitiveness of Castilla y León and FEDER fund
