The Augustan Roman temple at Barcino has been a key element during the last 60 years in the research of the colony's urban development. Its peculiar elongated and narrow plan, first proposed in 1835, and its location at the highest point of the ancient city have dictated our understanding of the urban layout of Barcino by conditioning the shape of the city's forum and affecting the interpretation of the archaeological excavations carried out in the area since then. This paper proposes an alternative plan of the temple, based on data drawn from recent archaeological excavations, topographical analysis, typological comparisons, and the study of written sources. Our alternative hypothesis for the temple permits an in-depth reinterpretation of the plan of the forum and the evolution of the urban plan

Natural and human-induced Holocene paleoenvironmental changes on the Guadiana shelf (northern Gulf of Cadiz)

Three contrasting sedimentary environments on the continental shelf off the Guadiana River (northern Gulf of Cadiz) were integrated in a chronological framework and analysed in terms of sedimentology and benthic foraminiferal assemblages to understand the Holocene paleoenvironmental evolution. The analysed environments differ in terms of their depositional regimes and benthic foraminiferal assemblages. However, a dominant fluvial origin of the sand fraction was observed in all three environments. Holocene sedimentary processes were mainly controlled by natural (sea level changes and climate variations) and human-induced processes (e.g. deforestation, agriculture) along four evolutionary stages. The three older stages were mainly influenced by natural processes, such as sea level variations and fluvial inputs, whereas the most recent stage reflects a combination of climatic- and human-induced processes. A deepening of sedimentary environments related to a period of rapid sea level rise, strongly influenced by river discharges occurred from c. 11,500 to c. 10,000 cal. yr BP. A reduction in sediment export to the shelf, as a result of the continuous and rapid sea level rise and enhanced estuary infilling reflects the second stage, from c. 10,000 to c. 5000 cal. yr BP. The beginning of the third stage, from c. 5000 to c. 1500–1000 cal. yr BP, is marked by a sea-level slowdown and the relatively stable climate and environmental conditions. The fourth stage, from c. 1500–1000 cal. yr BP to Recent times, reflects the intensification of human-induced processes and climatic variability in the Guadiana River basin. This stage also reflects modern depositional conditions, with the formation of a proximal prodeltaic wedge and a distal muddy body

This article reports of the research about the initial formation of teachers, focusing on the Supervised Curricular Internship (SCI). The main goal was to investigate the internship process and search for new alternatives of action for the recently graduated teacher. In this paper, we present a framed research about the current SCI model and proposes an alteration through research bias. For this purpose, we accessed action research methodology, analyzing written documents, oral sources and on-site observation in schools where teaching students perform internships. Four teachers and four interns took part on the research. The results show that the internship has taken place in a technical rationality conception. For its overcoming, internship has to be treated as an articulating element that crosses the different disciplines that are part of the curricular matrix. It’s also necessary that collective reflections are made about study, planning, implementation and evaluation of actions.

This article presents a new chronological and functional interpretation for the Late Roman building of Centcelles (Tarraco), which hinges on an archaeological and architectural analysis of the building, according to the historical and archaeological context of the period. The arguments presented allow one to date the building in the first half of the 5th century, and to identify it as the central area of a Late Roman military camp located next to the urban centre of Tarraco, the city that appears in written sources as being the base for the Imperial armies which tried to reintegrate the whole Hispania to the legitimate power in the West during most of the 5th century. We have at our disposal an exceptional document for the period: Consentius’ Epistle 11, thanks to which we know about the comes Hispaniarum Asterius staying in Tarraco ca. 420 and his residence, the praetorium, where he himself lived together with his daughter and the army which went with him to the campaign. We propose to identify Centcelles with the military base of Asterius and the army in Tarraco. We also put forward some preliminary considerations regarding the decoration of the domed room, still in progress, in accordance with the new function and chronology.
