The Beloc Formation, (Southern Peninsula of Haiti) includes a well preserved record of the Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary materials with a distinct spherulithic layer interpreted as a result of the Chicxulub impact. A quantitative nannofossil study of four sections spanning the K/T boundary has led to identify the interval corresponding to the Micula murus/Nephrolithus frequens (CC25c/CC26a) Subzones and a thick Micula prinsii (CC26b) Subzone for the Upper Cretaceous materials. Also, the Subzone of Cruciplacolithus primus (CP1a) has been identified in the lowest Paleogene materials. Two intervals that are characterised by an in Aguado et al. / Journal of Iberian Geology 31 (2004) 9-24 10 crease in the relative proportions of Prediscosphaera stoveri and Ahmuellerella regularis, also show a parallel decrease in the warm water indicator Watznaueria barnesae. They occur whithin Subzone CC26b, and are interpreted as short periods of climatic cooling. Successive blooms of Thoracosphaera spp. and Neobiscutum are the most significant nannofossil events registered in the lower Tertiary materials. A small increase in Thoracosphaera spp. observed within the last centimeters of the uppermost Maastrichtian materials, just below the base of the spherulithic layer, may be interpreted as the result of a more stressed environment. Contrary to what is generally found in other sections from low palaeo-latitude regions, no Braarudosphaera bloom was observed at Beloc, and the presence of this taxon is only nominal. Rare and occasional occurrence of Biantholithus specimens (including B. sparsus) constitutes the only typically Tertiary taxa found above the spherulithic layer

paper, and to R. Jordan for his helpful editorial assistance.A detailed study of calcareous nannofossil assemblages from twelve uppermost lower Barremian–lower Aptian sections in the Subbetic Domain of the Betic Cordillera was performed. Seven new nannofossil species (Crucibiscutum bastetanum, Crucibiscutum gracile, Chiastozygus lamprostauros, Cyclagelosphaera platyaspis, Lithraphidites aichmoides, Lithraphidites pugio, and Rhagodiscus sicutclipeus) are described, one species is emended (Lithraphidites magnus) and the taxonomic concept of the marker species Hayesites irregularis is discussed and clarified. The detailed stratigraphic ranges of the new species, together with those of other relevant taxa, are determined and correlated to standard ammonite biostratigraphy. Age estimates of biostratigraphically relevant calcareous nannofossil biohorizons are calculated using astrochronologically tuned cyclostratigraphic data. Five new calcareous nannofossil subzones are proposed which enhance upper Barremian biostratigraphic resolution at a regional scale and are directly correlated with respect to the standard Tethyan ammonite zonation. Two of the new species described here are used as biostratigraphic markers for the newly proposed subzones. The duration of each subzone is provided through astrochronological calibration. This study allows the refinement of the calcareous nannofossil zonation for the Mediterranean–Atlantic province of the Tethyan Realm. The implications of these new results are discussed regarding the extant definition and use of the Barremian/Aptian boundary. The morpho-evolutionary trends of selected nannofossil groups are reviewed in relation to the latest Barremian–Aptian paleogeographic changes, showing these were a prominent factor controlling calcareous nannoplankton evolution and biogeographical distribution in the west European-Atlantic region.P20_00783 (Plan Andaluz de Investigación, Desarrollo e

A hybrid intelligent model to predict the hydrogen concentration in the producer gas from a downdraft gasifier
[Abstract] This research work presents an artificial intelligence approach to predicting the hydrogen concentration in the producer gas from biomass gasification. An experimental gasification plant consisting of an air-blown downdraft fixed-bed gasifier fueled with exhausted olive pomace pellets and a producer gas conditioning unit was used to collect the whole dataset. During an extensive experimental campaign, the producer gas volumetric composition was measured and recorded with a portable syngas analyzer at a constant time step of 10 seconds. The resulting dataset comprises nearly 75 hours of plant operation in total. A hybrid intelligent model was developed with the aim of performing fault detection in measuring the hydrogen concentration in the producer gas and still provide reliable values in the event of malfunction. The best performing hybrid model comprises six local internal submodels that combine artificial neural networks and support vector machines for regression. The results are remarkably satisfactory, with a mean absolute prediction error of only 0.134% by volume. Accordingly, the developed model could be used as a virtual sensor to support or even avoid the need for a real sensor that is specific for measuring the hydrogen concentration in the producer gas.Junta de Andalucía; 1381442Xunta de Galicia; ED431G 2019/01Ministerio de Universidades; FPU19/0093

Educating prospective primary teachers with the Maimónides project
The Maimónides Project, initially designed to be applied in the
elementary school within the Andalusian
Culture Programme of the Andalusian
Government, is now adapted for the context of prospective primary teacher
education. We aim to make possible that the student teachers learn more
“about Science” starting from the relationships between Science, Technology
and Society. In our work we try to promote positive attitudes that lead
students to be keen to know more, to value and be relativist with respect to
scientific knowledge. Moreover, we challenge the students to build a critical,
responsible thinking on the outcomes and consequences of the new
knowledges
A Methodological Proposal for Biology and Geology Teaching at Secundary Education
should be directed through a systemic and holistic approach that enables the
treatment of Biology and Geology from an integrative perspective and from the socalled
evolutionary spiral curriculum to ensure meaningful learning. This
evolutionary and systemic perspective becomes more crucial for the fourth grade of
ESO (15-16 years old) where two great paradigms of Biology and Geology (the
Evolution of Species and Plate Tectonics) are studied. Therefore, we present a
specific methodological approach that allows integration and cohesion of Biology
and Geology through a systemic view of natural processes where the human being
is another element that affects and interacts in their environmen
