High performance numerical modeling of ultra-short laser pulse propagation based on multithreaded parallel hardware

    Get PDF
The focus of this study is development of parallelised version of severely sequential and iterative numerical algorithms based on multi-threaded parallel platform such as a graphics processing unit. This requires design and development of a platform-specific numerical solution that can benefit from the parallel capabilities of the chosen platform. Graphics processing unit was chosen as a parallel platform for design and development of a numerical solution for a specific physical model in non-linear optics. This problem appears in describing ultra-short pulse propagation in bulk transparent media that has recently been subject to several theoretical and numerical studies. The mathematical model describing this phenomenon is a challenging and complex problem and its numerical modeling limited on current modern workstations. Numerical modeling of this problem requires a parallelisation of an essentially serial algorithms and elimination of numerical bottlenecks. The main challenge to overcome is parallelisation of the globally non-local mathematical model. This thesis presents a numerical solution for elimination of numerical bottleneck associated with the non-local nature of the mathematical model. The accuracy and performance of the parallel code is identified by back-to-back testing with a similar serial version

The start-up business is a business that has just been initiated and is still in the phase of finding the right positioning. Therefore, the presence of employees in the business start-up is significant in determining the performance of the business. Positive and happy feelings for employees at work contribute to employee performance, and this is mostly determined by the leadership patterns adopted in the organization. In previous studies, Transformational Leadership has become an antecedent for happiness at work. However, there is a research gap in studies of the effects of Transformational Leadership on Happiness at work that presents inconsistencies in research results. Therefore, this research further examines the study by providing novelty through mediation Organizational Learning Capability and organizational facilitators. The subject of this research is the start-up business Food and Beverage in Indonesia, which contributed greatly to the economy. This research uses quantitative methods with a purposive sampling technique of 100 respondents. The research proves that the effect of Transformational Leadership on Organizational Learning Capability and Organizational Facilitators, then Organizational Learning Capability and Organizational Facilitators on Happiness at Work, and subsequently Transformational Leadership on Happiness at Work through Organizational Learning Capability is significant. But the influence of Transformational Leadership on Happiness at Work, then Transformational Leadership on Happiness At Work through Organizational Facilitators, and Transformational Leadership on Happiness At Work through Organizational Learning Capability and Organizational Facilitators are not significan

Creating an appropriate competitive performance by innovation and competitive firm strategy (a study of foods and beverage industry in Makassar)

This study attempts to investigate the effect of innovation, cost strategy and delivery system on the quality and flexibility in achieving high firms performances in foods and drinks industry. This research was undertaken in Makassar on 120 firms which are represented by staff, managers, directors, owners and HRD, using questionnaires. Types of firms which participated in the survey are individually owned firm, sole proprietary, commanditer and corporation which operate in the several Makassar suburb. The data were collected and analyzed by implementing Structural Equation Modeling. It shows that innovation has affected quality significantly. Cost strategy has also affected quality significantly and also cost strategy has affected flexibility significantly. However, the cost strategy did not affect quality. Beside, quick delivery system did not affect the flexibility. The quality did not affect firm performances whereas the flexibility has affected firm performance significantly

Occupational factors associated with health-related quality of life in nursing professionals: a multi-centre study

Background: Nursing professionals are exposed to stressful situations arising from the work context that may affect health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The objective of this study was to analyse the relationship between sociodemographic and work-related variables regarding HRQoL in nursing professionals. Methods: A multi-centre, cross-sectional descriptive design was used. The participants consisted 1521 nurses working in healthcare centres, in both primary care and hospital care, in the eight provinces of the Andalusian Public Health System (APHS), Spain. Sociodemographic and work-related variables were analysed: Compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and burnout were measured using the professional quality of life questionnaire (ProQOL), and HRQoL was measured using the SF-12 health questionnaire. Results: Compassion fatigue, burnou, and, to a lesser extent, compassion satisfaction significantly influence the physical and mental components of HRQoL. The simple regression analysis showed that burnout and compassion fatigue were significantly associated with the mental component of HRQoL. Gender influenced the mental component of HRQoL. The rest of the sociodemographic and work-related variables were not significantly related to HRQoL. Conclusion: Work-related stress and repeated contact with situations of suffering influence HRQoL. Health systems must implement programmes to increase the emotional well-being of workers

Los Resultados Positivos, Negativos y Neutrales de la Adaptación Diseñada en el Entorno Construido

This article posits that design of climate adaptation interventions is co-aligned in process with the social diffusion of innovation. As such, innovation is fundamentally a differentiation to the status quo through trial-and-error that is designed to fail and circumvent, as much as it is designed to insulate and transform. Through cycles of creation and failure, social, financial and ecological capital are reorganized within an adaptive cycle—as process that simultaneously offers the promise of both a subjectively more equitable and more exploitive set of potential outcomes. Adaptation has long been regarded as neither good nor bad—it is merely a social process of learning and trade-offs from which some may benefit and others may bear the burden This article challenges the rhetoric that resilience and adaptation activities universally yield positive outcomes for society and ecology. To that contrary, only in an optimal scenario would such activities yield a net positive result of a more equitable and just future. In some cases, designed adaptations may be failures for some and successes for others.

This study examined the effect of individual characteristics and transformational leadership on job satisfaction and organizational commitment of the employees at the Department of Islamic Shari'a. The samples were 114 employees. The analytical tool used was Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structure) tools. The results showed that individual characteristics and transformational leadership affected job satisfaction. Individual characteristics and job satisfaction also significantly affected organizational commitment. However, transformational leadership did not influence organizational commitment. Then, in testing the indirect relationship, job satisfaction did not mediate the effect of transformational leadership on organizational commitment. But job satisfaction fully mediated the effect of individual characteristics on organizational commitmen

Comparative numerical study of efficiency of energy deposition in femtosecond microfabrication with fundamental and second harmonics of Yb-doped fiber laser

We present the results of comparative numerical study of energy deposition in single shot femtosecond laser inscription for fundamental and second harmonic of Yb-doped fiber laser. We have found that second harmonic is more efficient in absorbing energy which leads to lower inscription threshold. Hence this regime is more attractive for applications in femtosecond laser microfabrication
