The Bronze Age in the Lands of Antequera: on the Wake of a Powerful Past
Antequera is home to a major megalithic site, listed
in the UNESCO World Heritage List since July 2016.
Although going back to the first half of the 19th
cent. CE, research on this site has hitherto failed
to provide a thorough synthesis of the settlement dynamics in the Later Prehistory of the surrounding
region, the Lands of Antequera. In line with the
topic of this book, in this contribution a review of
the currently available evidence for Bronze Age
Antequera is presented. This is a follow-up of a
similar paper dealing with the Copper Age, published
some years ago (García Sanjuán et al. 2016).
To achieve this review, a summary description of
the available empirical evi dence is first made;
then, the main trends of that period in terms of
settle ment patterns, economic practices and funerary
ideology are discussed; fi nally, the resulting
conclusions are put into a more general perspective
from the view point of the social and cultural
dynamics of southern Iberian Bronze Age. The resulting
picture is that the Bronze Age at the Lands
of Antequera appears to have been visibly marked
by a phenomenon of cultural continuity pivoting
around the persistent infl uence of the magnifi cent
megalithic monuments that dominated the social
landscape in the 4th and 3rd mill. BCE
Traditión and innovation along the 2nd Millennium B.C. in the central Guadalquivir region: I. The funerary rituals
Ancient cultures must hold an ensemble of normalized items, which allow us to locate it in its territorial area and, leaning
on its changes, to establish its sequence. According to this argument we will consider main archaeological sites
in Andalusian Valley. In this essay we will assess necropolis and analyze the village’s sequence during II B.C. using
dating as organizing criteria, absolute dating when possibl

The T12 terrace of the Guadalquivir River has been found to be the point of
reference in the paleontological macrommal fauna of the second half of the Middle Pleistocene together with the associated acheulean industry. The presence of a hippopotamus of great dimensions found in the base of the terrace opens a new
interpretation of the chronology and the climatic environment at the beginning of the formation of the terrace during the MIS 12
The karst site of Las Palomas (Guadalteba County, Málaga, Spain): A preliminary study of its MiddleeLate Pleistocene archaeopaleontological record
Cleaning works in the cave of Las Palomas in Teba (Málaga, Spain), developed by the Guadalteba
Consortium, have provided a number of lithic tools and knapping products that may be ascribed to the
Mode III technotypological tradition as well as remains of a number of large mammal species typical of
MiddleeLate Pleistocene times. Topographic measurements help to place this ancient cave within a karst
landform. This discovery opens up new perspectives in the research on the Neanderthal groups that
inhabited the valleys of Guadalteba and Turón rivers in the middle basin of the Guadalhorce River, and
thus in the southern region of the Iberian Peninsula

In this paper some results of a pilot study upon the Romanisation of the Antequera Depression (Malaga, Spain) are presented. It focuses specifically on the analysis of changes on its territorial layout, aiming to clarify the changing affluence of visibility and relative height in settlement location during Iberian and Roman Republican times. From a methodological perspective, a number of GIS techniques are combined with statistical analysis following a well-established procedure in archaeological spatial analysis. Results showing elements of continuity and discontinuity in the territorial layout are finally interpreted within the current research on the concept and function of Romanisation developed in Europe from the 1990¿s.Versión del edito
