A Proposal for a Two-Way Journey on Validating Locations in Unstructured and Structured Data

    Get PDF
The Web of Data has grown explosively over the past few years, and as with any dataset, there are bound to be invalid statements in the data, as well as gaps. Natural Language Processing (NLP) is gaining interest to fill gaps in data by transforming (unstructured) text into structured data. However, there is currently a fundamental mismatch in approaches between Linked Data and NLP as the latter is often based on statistical methods, and the former on explicitly modelling knowledge. However, these fields can strengthen each other by joining forces. In this position paper, we argue that using linked data to validate the output of an NLP system, and using textual data to validate Linked Open Data (LOD) cloud statements is a promising research avenue. We illustrate our proposal with a proof of concept on a corpus of historical travel stories

STANDARDIZATION IN WORKSHOP DEVELOPMENT: An SAP d-shop case study

    Get PDF
In the technology sector, it is crucial to foster and maintain a workforce which is up-to-date with the latest advancements in this fast-paced industry. Companies of SAP’s magnitude have also the large size and employee diversity as added factors in this equation. In order to keep employees updated, there are a series of measures taken by SAP to ensure their access to quality information, be it internally or externally sourced. Among these, there is the d-shop. It differs from other enablement initiatives and products in SAP by its practice-centered approach and bottom-up operation, in many ways inspired by the maker movement. The approachable, decentralized management and operation of d-shop, while being one of its main highlights, is also at times one of its weaknesses. The initiative’s openness to collaborative content creation results in a diverse pool of authors, and, consequently, a big variance in type of content and presentation style. It is indeed a two-sided coin, representing both the embodiment of what a grassroots initiative stands for (free, malleable and adaptable), but also a logistics challenge in efficient content transfer and consistent user experience terms. Addressing these two conflicting issues, a framework for content structuring and delivery will be proposed in this project, while honoring the grassroots ideals of inclusiveness which are the cornerstone of d-shop initiative. Sterling Software Inc, an SAP partner, describes their solutions implementation in a way which perfectly describes the opposing forces dealt with in this project: In the technology sector, it is crucial to foster and maintain a workforce which is up-to-date with the latest advancements in this fast-paced industry. Sterling Software Inc, an SAP partner, describes their solutions implementation in a way which perfectly describes the opposing forces dealt with in this project: “Through a balanced focus on both standardization and flexibility, we deliver business process expertise and best practice guidance…” (Sterling Software Inc, 2017). This proposal’s purpose is, therefore, not restricting the d-shop’s liberty in developing and delivering workshops, but rather facilitating the transferring of information and promotion of a consistent branding/presentation tone for d-shop’s content. This would also result in the maintenance of quality consistency in user experiences and expectations when engaging the initiative. Due to the great level of autonomy each d-shop location enjoys, the outcomes of this project will be considered guidelines of voluntary implementation, rather than topdown enforced measures. This malleability is seen as beneficial, as there is no way to foresee all the needs and possible applications of this project’s outcomes in the future, especially in a global context. The possibility to tweak and update the project’s outcomes as time goes by only aggregates value to them, serving as a foundation to build upon rather than a punctual and short-lived intervention. This research pairs past evaluation of aid for friends and families throughout the life of a loved one suffering opioid addiction and seeks to elicit the potential for further considerations for after-math care in the wake of overdose bereavement. Traumatic grief and secondary trauma in relation to individuals having suffered the loss of a loved one to opioid-related circumstances will be the framework focus to prove the need to engage a forgotten population of people. Considering the vast review of literature engaging the discussion of addiction as well as traumatic grief, this qualitative analysis takes on a newly woven perspective seeking to intentionally engage the parameters of need not currently sought in current research study. The author uses foundational discussion on both addiction and traumatic grief to develop applicable assessment exploration to bridge the gap for those suffering overdose bereavement. Lastly, this proposal illuminates current research articles that strongly suggest further education and immediacy of resources intervention development for survivors of opioid addiction. This research study collects, reviews, and unpacks the direction of grief trauma care for a specific population of bereaved laying foundation between gaps in literature and driving the continual pursuit of therapeutic practice with the momentum of this new qualitative research analysis

    An employer demand intelligence framework

Employer demand intelligence is crucial to ensure accurate and reliable education, workforce and immigration related decisions are made. To date, current methods have been manually intensive and expensive — providing insufficient scope of information required to address such important economic implications. This research developed an Employer Demand Intelligence Framework (EDIF) to address detailed employer demand intelligence requirements. To further the EDIF’s functionality, a semi-automated Employer Demand Identification Tool (EDIT) was developed that continuously provide such intelligence

This study focuses on a Venture Acceleration program that is based on the Lean Startup method and its impact on a specific development team’s way of working. The scope of the program included training of corporate personnel to embrace a customer-centered and business-oriented mindset. The phenomenon related to this development study is the organization’s work culture transformation. The implementation of the focused training, in the form of an internal venture accelerator program, seeks to specifically speed up this transformation. The purpose of this thesis is to implement an action research approach to find out if development work can be accelerated by accepting certain tools and a process, together with a user-centered mindset. According to the synthesis of these findings, an improvement proposal was created to establish a better competence within the development team. The results are based on observation and interviews with the project team and the development work stakeholders. The observation findings show that the project team was able to improve their way of working and successfully deliver the digital assembly instructions project accordingly. The interview findings state that the development team will require more concrete ways to embrace the user-centered approach in their daily work. The reflection of the analysis indicates that the accelerator program will present an opportunity to both individual teams and organizations to embrace a new way of working. This type of growth of personnel capabilities is likely to benefit organizational transformation. The results point out that the impact of this type of training program speeds up the development process. Compared to the project team in this study, it also produces more direct results than the development team's earlier working methods

Tuuliturbiinin metallisen eroosiosuojuksen suunnittelu ja analysointi

Erosion on wind turbine blades is an ever increasing problem, as more wind power is built and the average size of turbines is growing. Especially when most of the unused capacity is in offshore, where rain erosion is a large issue. Currently issued erosion protective solutions are at their limits and offering only a limited time of protection. Metallic solutions have grown interest in the field, but still no commercial solution has been developed. Objective of this thesis is a preliminary design of such solution and analyses for it are done. For the structural analyses a wind turbine blade FEA model was recreated and validated. This was done to provide a realistic attachment for the designed shield to do the structural analyses. The blade was put under loading resembling operational conditions and the results of the shield was then observed. An ultimate load and fatigue life cases were defined for the structural analyses. For the aerodynamic analysis, a 2D CFD case for representative airfoil with added shield was defined. Both the linear-elastic 3D FEA and the 2D CFD analyses were done using the commercial software package ANSYS. In more detail ANSYS Mechanical and Composite PrepPost were used for the structural analyses and ANSYS Fluent for the CFD. The analyses yielded that the designed solution would structurally be a lifetime solution, handling the worst cases of ultimate and fatigue loads. All the stresses for respective cases were under the yield and endurance limits of the selected material. Additionally, the solution only had a minor effect on the structural response of the wind turbine blade. For the aerodynamic analysis the shield has a small, but noticeable effect on the lift coefficient of the airfoil. No changes in the drag coefficient was observed.
