    Analysis of typical programming mistakes made by first and second year IT students

    The research paper contains a review and analysis of common programming mistakes made by first and second year students of Computer Science. The data were collected during the courses entitled “Algorithmics and Data Structures” and “Numerical Methods”, where students have to write programs in the C++ language. The article includes examples of three selected mistake types. A comparison of mistakes made by first and second year students is presented. The analysis carried out shows that the percentage of mistakes made decreases when the students are in the second year, but three types of mistakes demonstrate the opposite trend. It can be concluded that those three types of mistakes are related to the course of Numerical Methods, where students have to deal with a significant amount of mathematical expressions. The results show that the students have the most significant problems with memory management

    The paper presents evaluation methods of arch-shaped corrugated steel roof capacity used in an agricultural construction. The arch-shaped corrugated steel roof is easy to install, to use and less expensive than the traditional construction of agricultural buildings. The specific of structure poses many design problems related to the local buckling of profiled sheets. The article presents normative design methods, the most common design errors, trends research methods and numerical calculations.W artykule zaprezentowano metody oceny nośności nowoczesnych konstrukcji hal łukowych stosowanych w budownictwie rolniczym.  Cienkościenne łukowe blachy stalowe są proste w montażu, łatwe w eksploatacji i tańsze od tradycyjnych konstrukcji budynków rolniczych. Specyfika zadaszeń z cienkościennych blach łukowych nastręcza jednak wiele problemów projektowych. Rozwiązanie tych problemów pozwoli na wznoszenie tanich i bezpiecznych  budynków.     The educational tools presented in the paper, such as calculation methods and EduPython application, share some features which are very significant from the educational point of view. They let us individualize the process of teaching. They are interactive because they predispose immediate feedback and facilitate its creation. They make a lesson more attractive and this way they create positive attitude to physics lessons. What is more, the fact that we can combine them with experiments in a very smooth and natural way seems to be even more important factor. Planning, conducting and analysing an experiment can go hand in hand with the computerised methods. The examples presented in the paper proved the can even mutually supportive. The possibilities that computers give us are not limited performing calculations and obtaining results. They also let us create their graphical representation. This significantly raises the importance of computerised methods in modern methodology. All the more so, there are many different ways of creating computer visualisations of calculations' results, from simple histograms to very advanced simulations. In addition, they can be created abreast during a lesson. That means, they can be an essential component of feedback. The paper contains a description and results of the research. They confirm the effectiveness of presented methods and tools

    Numerical simulations of anomalous diffusion

    In this paper we present numerical methods - finite differences and finite elements - for solution of partial differential equation of fractional order in time for one-dimensional space. This equation describes anomalous diffusion which is a phenomenon connected with the interactions within the complex and non-homogeneous background. In order to consider physical initial-value conditions we use fractional derivative in the Caputo sense. In numerical analysis the boundary conditions of first kind are accounted and in the final part of this paper the result of simulations are presented.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, CMM 2003 Conference Gliwice/Wisla Polan

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki obliczeń numerycznych obliczania naprężeń kontaktowych w węzłach tocznych – łożyskach. Obliczenia wykonano, stosując MES, profesjonalny pakiet ANSYS.Determination of subsurface stresses distributions, loads, and pressures is the decisive element in predicting fatigue life of rolling bearings. Wykazano, że dla danych warunków początkowych wzbudzenia, początkowo nieliniowe, chaotyczne oscylacje struktury stają się okresowe i synchroniczne.The paper presents the phenomenon of synchronization of Duffing oscillators suspended on a flexible beam. This article presents the results of changes in the beam model on the behavior of oscillators.     Life strategies of selected algae species along the habitat gradient on peat bogs

    Autecological studies on some selected algae species were conducted in 1998 and 1999 on transition mires and raised bogs situated in the water and peat-bog nature reserve „Dury” in the Wdecki Landscape Park. Apart from forms co-dominating at all studied sites, such as Penium silvae-nigrae f. parallelum or Anisonema ovale, also forms that occurred occasionally were selected for autecological studies, such as e.g. Tetmemorus brebissonii var. brebissonii occurring in summer, or Chroococcus turgidus connected with sites situated near the water table. From the literature data it appears that the selected algae species, perhaps with exception of Petalomonas sphagnophila, are cosmopolitan organisms, characteristic of oligotrophic raised bogs. Species such as Anisonema ovale and Penium silvae-nigrae, despite different nutrition methods and different life „strategies”, have a similarly wide range of tolerance to changeable habitat parameters. They are eurytopic species, which can find their developmental optimum in all habitats. Chroococcus turgidus and Tetmemorus brebissonii are autotrophic species, which display certain characteristics corresponding to the K - strategy of development. They are stenotopic species connected with a highly hydrated habitat of low electrolytic conductivity and low concentration of biogenic substances

    This paper presents the design of a low-power comparator for timestamping purposes in multichannel integrated circuit for silicon strip detectors’ readout. A brief introduction to an analog front-end electronics with two signal paths is presented.
