Data modelling for emergency response

Emergency response is one of the most demanding phases in disaster management. The fire brigade, paramedics, police and municipality are the organisations involved in the first response to the incident. They coordinate their work based on welldefined policies and procedures, but they also need the most complete and up-todate information about the incident, which would allow a reliable decision-making.\ud There is a variety of systems answering the needs of different emergency responders, but they have many drawbacks: the systems are developed for a specific sector; it is difficult to exchange information between systems; the systems offer too much or little information, etc. Several systems have been developed to share information during emergencies but usually they maintain the nformation that is coming from field operations in an unstructured way.\ud This report presents a data model for organisation of dynamic data (operational and situational data) for emergency response. The model is developed within the RGI-239 project ‘Geographical Data Infrastructure for Disaster Management’ (GDI4DM)

A data model for operational and situational information in emergency response: the Dutch case

During emergency response a lot of dynamic information is created and needs to be studied and analysed in the decision-making process. However, this analysis of data is difficult and often not possible. A major reason for this is that a lot of information coming from the field operations is not archived in a structured way. This paper presents a data model for the management of dynamic data, which captures the situational information (incident and its effect) and the operational information (processes activated and people/departments involved). The model is derived from the emergency response procedure and structural organisation in the Netherlands

Models of Dynamic Data for Emergency Response: A Comparative Study

The first hours after a disaster happens are very chaotic and difficult but perhaps the most important for successfully fighting the consequences, saving human lives and reducing damages in private and public properties. Despite some advances, complete inventory of the information needed during the emergency response remains challenging. In the last years several nationally and internationally funded projects have concentrated on inventory of emergency response processes, structures for storing dynamic information and standards and services for accessing needed data sets. A good inventory would clarify many aspects of the information exchange such as data sets, models, representations; a good structuring would facilitate the fast access to a desired piece of information, as well as the automation of analysis of the information. Consequently the information can be used better in the decision-making process.\ud This paper presents our work on models for dynamic data for different disasters and incidents in Europe. The Dutch data models are derived from a thorough study on emergency response procedure in the Netherlands. Two more models developed within the project HUMBOLDT reflect several cross border disaster management scenarios in Europe. These models are compared with the Geospatial Data Model of the Department of Homeland Security in USA. The paper draws conclusions about the type of geographical information needed to perform emergency response operations and the possibility to have a generic model to be used world-wide

NAVIGATION IN INDOOR VOXEL MODELS

The paper proposes to use voxel models of building interiors to perform indoor navigation. The algorithms can be purely geometrical, not relying on semantic information about different building elements, such as floors, walls, stairways etc. Therefore, it is possible to use voxel models from different data sources, in addition to vector-to-raster conversions. The paper demonstrates this on the basis of tree different input types: hand measurements, point clouds and images of floorplans. On the basis of these models, the paper shows how to determine the navigable space in a voxel model for a pedestrian actor, and how to compute paths from arbitrary sources to specified destinationsScopu

Frequency of individual nosological units, metabolic syndrome and obesity in patients with adrenal hormonally inactive adenomas and their relationship with anthropometric indicators

Introduction: The diagnosis of adrenal hormonally inactive adenoma is made when a precise endocrine examination rules out the presence of hormonal oversecretion. More and more data indicate an association between hormonally inactive adrenal adenomas and some components of cardiometabolic risk—insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension, hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia.Aim: The main goal of the present study is to determine the frequency of individual nosological units, metabolic syndrome and obesity in patients with adrenal hormonally inactive adenomas and their relationship to anthropometric indicators.Materials and Methods: The subject of the study were 105 patients with hormonally inactive adrenal adenomas, passed through the Clinic of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at St. Marina University Hospital. The results are processed with SPSS v. 20.0, using variance, variation, correlation and comparative analyses, and risk assessment analysis. We take p 94 cm have an 8 times higher risk of decreased serum HDL levels (OR = 8.0) (2.43-26.33); p < 0.001). A positive moderate dependence was found between uric acid serum levels with GGT and FLI.Conclusion: Additional research is needed to conclude whether these patients have an altered metabolic profile and have a statistically increased risk of cardiovascular disease and mortality

Digital Segusio: from models generation to urban reconstruction

[EN] The reconstructive study of the urban arrangement of Susa in the 4th century arose from the intention to exploit some resources derived from local studies, and survey activities, fulfilled by innovative methods from which the modelling of architectural heritage (AH) and virtual reconstructions are derived. The digital Segusio presented in this paper is the result of intensive discussion and exchange of data and information during the urban landscape documentation activities, and due to the technology of virtual model generation, making it possible to recreate the charm of an ancient landscape. The land survey has been accomplished using aerial and terrestrial acquisition systems, mainly through digital photogrammetry from UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) and terrestrial laser scanning. Results obtained from both the methods have been integrated into the medium scale geographical data from the regional map repository, and some processing and visualization supported by GIS (Geographical Information System) has been achieved. Subsequently, with the help of accurate and detailed DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and other architectural scale models related to the ancient heritage, this ancient landscape was modelled. The integration of the history of this city with digital and multimedia resources will be offered to the public in the city museum housed in the restored castle of Maria Adelaide (Savoy dynasty, 11th century), which stands in the place where the acropolis of the city of Susa lay in ancient times.A special acknowledgment goes to the Foundation Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, who made the realization of this work possible (through a loan granted under the "Exponent Project 2015"). Chromatin Fiber Dynamics under Tension and Torsion

Genetic and epigenetic information in eukaryotic cells is carried on chromosomes, basically consisting of large compact supercoiled chromatin fibers. Micromanipulations have recently led to great advances in the knowledge of the complex mechanisms underlying the regulation of DNA transaction events by nucleosome and chromatin structural changes. Indeed, magnetic and optical tweezers have allowed opportunities to handle single nucleosomal particles or nucleosomal arrays and measure their response to forces and torques, mimicking the molecular constraints imposed in vivo by various molecular motors acting on the DNA. These challenging technical approaches provide us with deeper understanding of the way chromatin dynamically packages our genome and participates in the regulation of cellular metabolism
