Bose-Einstein correlations at LEP and Tevatron energies

Using the Bose-Einstein correlations (BEC) implemented in PYTHIA we investigated a possibility of the CDF experiment at the Tevatron to see the two-particle correlations in the final state of interactions. The approach based on quantum field theory at finite temperature was applied to the ALEPH data at LEP, and the BEC important parameters were retrieved.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. Full text link
The significance of the issue under study is due to the fact that nowadays there is a necessity of rethinking of conception of training future vocational teachers to use application software taking into account a competency-based approach. The article is aimed at studying the contradictions underscored while analyzing the conditions of the process of preparation of future vocational teachers for using application software within the educational process and also the ways of their solving realized with the help of the competency-based approach. The competency-based approach allows forming a system of requirements for the practical part of the research based on technology of project education. In the given research work the authors' viewing of principles of formation of conditions of preparation of the vocational teachers for using the application software within the education process is presented. The analysis of groups of conditions is made with regard to the discipline "Information Technologies in Education." With the use of traditional vision ("to know, to be able, to have") and vision from the point of view of Dublin descriptors. The contents of the article could be of interest for teachers who are engaged into training the Bachelors of Vocational Education (branch-wise) and also retraining in the sphere of use of the application software in the education process. © Authors

The necessity of measures for purification and preparation of irrigation water which comes to the pressure pipeline of the irrigation machine from suspended particles of different origin were substantiated. The scientific-methodical approaches to the estimation of the influence of irrigation water pollution on the hydraulic parameters of the SMF «Frigate» were considered, namely the throughput of sprinkler nozzles and the irrigation norm of agricultural crops. The results of the machine experiment on determining the influence of the level of pollution of irrigation water on the throughput of the SMF «Frigate» for conditions that are similar to the conditions of irrigation in Kherson region were given. Design and construction of new central and forward muon counters for CDF II

New scintillation counters have been designed and constructed for the CDF upgrade in order to complete the muon coverage of the central CDF detector, and to extend this coverage to larger pseudorapidity. A novel light collection technique using wavelength shifting fibers, together with high quality polystyrene-based scintillator resulted in compact counters with good and stable light collection efficiency over lengths extending up to 320 cm. Their design and construction is described and results of their initial performance are reported.Comment: 20 pages, 15 figure

Electromagnetic Cell Level Calibration for ATLAS Tile Calorimeter Modules

    Get PDF
We have determined the electromagnetic calibration constants of 11% TileCal modules exposed to electron beams with incident angles of 20 and 90 degrees. The gain of all the calorimeter cells have been pre-equalized using the radioactive Cs-source that will be also used in situ. The average values for these modules are equal to: for the flat filter method 1.154+/-0.002 pC/GeV and 1.192+/-0.002 pC/GeV for 20 and 90 degrees, for the fit method 1.040+/-0.002 pC/GeV and 1.068+/-0.003 pC/GeV, respectively. These average values for all cells of calibrated modules agree with the weighted average calibration constants for separate modules within the errors. Using the individual calibration constants for every module the RMS spread value of constants will be 1.9+/-0.1 %. In the case of the global constant this value will be 2.6+/-0.1 %. Finally, we present the global constants which should be used for the electromagnetic calibration of the ATLAS Tile hadronic calorimeter data in the ATHENA framework. These constants are equal to 1.15 pC/GeV in the case of the flat filter method and 1.04 pC/GeV for the fit one

An Introductory Guide to Aligning Networks Using SANA, the Simulated Annealing Network Aligner.

Sequence alignment has had an enormous impact on our understanding of biology, evolution, and disease. The alignment of biological networks holds similar promise. Biological networks generally model interactions between biomolecules such as proteins, genes, metabolites, or mRNAs. There is strong evidence that the network topology-the "structure" of the network-is correlated with the functions performed, so that network topology can be used to help predict or understand function. However, unlike sequence comparison and alignment-which is an essentially solved problem-network comparison and alignment is an NP-complete problem for which heuristic algorithms must be used. Here we introduce SANA, the Simulated Annealing Network Aligner. SANA is one of many algorithms proposed for the arena of biological network alignment. In the context of global network alignment, SANA stands out for its speed, memory efficiency, ease-of-use, and flexibility in the arena of producing alignments between two or more networks. SANA produces better alignments in minutes on a laptop than most other algorithms can produce in hours or days of CPU time on large server-class machines. We walk the user through how to use SANA for several types of biomolecular networks

Hadroproduction of the Chi1 and Chi2 States of Charmonium in 800 GeV/c Proton-Silicon Interactions

The cross sections for the hadroproduction of the Chi1 and Chi2 states of charmonium in proton-silicon collisions at sqrt{s}=38.8 GeV have been measured in Fermilab fixed target Experiment 771. The Chi states were observed via their radiative decay to J/psi+gamma, where the photon converted to e+e- in the material of the spectrometer. The measured values for the Chi1 and Chi2 cross sections for x_F>0 are 263+-69(stat)+-32(syst) and 498+-143(stat)+-67(syst) nb per nucleon respectively. The resulting sigma(Chi1}/sigma(Chi2) ratio of 0.53+-0.20(stat)+-0.07(syst), although somewhat larger than most theoretical expectations, can be accomodated by the latest theoretical estimates.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Search for the Higgs boson in events with missing transverse energy and b quark jets produced in proton-antiproton collisions at s**(1/2)=1.96 TeV

    Get PDF
We search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with an electroweak vector boson in events with no identified charged leptons, large imbalance in transverse momentum, and two jets where at least one contains a secondary vertex consistent with the decay of b hadrons. We use ~1 fb-1 integrated luminosity of proton-antiproton collisions at s**(1/2)=1.96 TeV recorded by the CDF II experiment at the Tevatron. We find 268 (16) single (double) b-tagged candidate events, where 248 +/- 43 (14.4 +/- 2.7) are expected from standard model background processes. We place 95% confidence level upper limits on the Higgs boson production cross section for several Higgs boson masses ranging from 110 GeV/c2 to 140 GeV/c2. For a mass of 115 GeV/c2 the observed (expected) limit is 20.4 (14.2) times the standard model prediction.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
