El presente trabajo muestra una metodología para la ubicación de compensadores de potencia reactiva SVC en base a un proceso de optimización que minimiza los costos asociados a la implementación de los dispositivos de control electrónicos a ser ubicados en la red tomando en cuenta escenarios de expansión del sistema de transmisión, para así determinar el efecto en los aspectos económicos y técnicos bajo la operación en estado estable de un sistema de potencia. La proyección de la expansión de los sistemas de transmisión se realiza mediante la utilización del flujo óptimo de potencia AC, el cual proporciona una descripción de mayor precisión al flujo de potencia de la red, teniendo como función final la minimización de las pérdidas de potencia y costos asociados a la instalación de equipos compensadores al sistema eléctrico, lo que ocasiona una mejora en el perfil de voltaje nodal en cada uno de los escenarios de expansión. La metodología del control de voltaje y redistribución de los flujos en las líneas de transmisión tiene como objetivo principal alcanzar una mejora en las variables de calidad y eficiencia de los sistemas eléctricos.This work shows a methodology for the location of SVC reactive power compensators based on an optimization process that minimizes the costs associated with the implementation of the electronic control devices to be located in the network, taking into account system expansion scenarios. transmission, in order to determine the effect on economic and technical aspects under the steady state operation of a power system. Advantages of a Free Software Culture for Qualitative Researchers in the Social Sciences

This paper aims to show the characteristics of free software and its implications for qualitative analysis in social research, especially in the case of new researchers and researchers with limited financial resources, as happens in third-world countries. First, the elements of qualitative research are described and understood as an approach linked to the interpretation and meanings that are given to the world. Secondly, the functions and handling of the RQDA software are explained. The main feature of RQDA is the fact that it is a free and open-source cross-platform tool, which allows project administration for data management purposes. The results show that even with the limitations that this type of tool may have, they offer a series of advantages that make their use possible and desirable to develop quality social research. Regarding the conclusions section, a reflection is offered on the use of technology based on free software for social research purposes, which must consider the pros and cons during its implementation. Concepts such as that of open access, or free culture, incorporate various forms of attending to historical problems suffered by science and education

Índice de contraste morfológico basado en el análisis de los contornos y el fondo de la imagen

Resumen. En este artículo se presenta un índice para cuantificar el contraste que se percibe en una imagen. El índice está basado en la ley de Weber y toma en consideración una estimación del fondo de la imagen mediante la erosión de la apertura por reconstrucción. El desempeño de la propuesta se ilustra con un conjunto de imágenes procesadas por un mapeo de contraste y se compara con dos medidas de contraste dadas en la literatura

A study on the degree of compliance to infection control standards of hospital personnel in two selected hospitals in Cavite

A descriptive, non-experimental type of research was employed in this study. Using purposive sampling technique, the subjects of this study were the nurses, midwives, and orderlies of two (2) selected hospitals and the researchers themselves. A checklist type of questionnaire was utilized to gather data on the presented problem. Data was analyzed through mean and t-test of independent means. Based on the findings of this study, the researchers concluded that hospital personnel, specifically the nurses and orderlies, of Hospital 1 have a higher degree of compliance with Infection Control Standard as compared to nurses and orderlies of Hospital2. Findings also showed that the midwives of the two (2) hospitals have the same degree of compliance with Infection Control Standard. The researchers concluded that nurses and midwives in Hospital 1 observe the handling of blood and body fluids because these were infectious. They likewise observed handwashing techniques, wearing gloves when touching body fluids, blood and mucous membranes or non-intact skin of all patients and wearing mask and gown during procedures of mucous membranes of mouth, nose and eyes. Nurses of Hospital 1 also observed to have sharp precautions 65-85% of the time such as the use of disposable needles and syringes. They only used sterile needles and one (1) sterile syringe for injection and handled used needles and sharp instruments as infected materials. It can also be concluded that nurses of Hospital 1 follow handling/disposal of infected waste material 65-85% of the time such as refraining from all direct patient care and from handling patient care equipment when there is a presence of exudes of weeping dermatitis. The researchers concluded that orderlies in the two hospitals comply with Laundry and Housekeeping precautions and that the perception of the hospital personnel of the two (2) selected hospitals regarding that degree of compliance to Infection Control Standard is different from the observation of the researchers, where hospital personnel of Hospital 1 and 2 rated their degree of compliance higher than the ratings given by the researchers
