Recently, the policy debate surrounding these concerns has become more prominent and has increasingly focused on AI. This report maps relevant European and national policy and regulatory initiatives. It explores the positions and views of social partners in the policy debate on the implications of technological change for work and employment. It also reviews a growing body of research on the topic showing that ethical implications go well beyond legal and compliance questions, extending to issues relating to quality of work. The report aims to provide a good understanding of the ethical implications of digitisation and automation, which is grounded in evidence-based research

    The seven steps

This article presents the creation of the "Digitization of Gandharan Artefact Thesaurus", a digital resource for the description of Gandharan art and – more generally – of Buddhist art. It was developed by the project "Digitisation of Gandharan Artefacts: A project for the preservation and the study of the Buddhist art of Pakistan" (DiGA). This work has been realized by walking Seven Steps, a serendipitous coincidence pairing our work to a famous episode in the early life of the Buddha. Our Seven Steps are: 1. Collection and selection of sources, both digital and printed. 2. Creation of the core of the Thesaurus by digitizing the Repertorio Iconografico per la schedatura dell’arte gandharica\textit {Repertorio Iconografico per la schedatura dell'arte gandharica}. 3. Modifying, enriching, and structuring the Repertorio in RDF/SKOS. 4. Implementation of a hierarchy of concepts for narrative scenes ("narratives"). 5. Implementation of a hierarchy of concepts for characters ("figures"). 6. Comparison and reconciliation with other already existing digital thesauri. 7. Collaboration with other projects and institutions. The DiGA Thesaurus marks an important milestone towards a new vision of Gandharan studies in which the availability of digitized collections will foster new insights and understanding. Already during the creation of the Thesaurus, exciting new perspectives have opened in the field of both Gandharan studies and digital humanities

    Motor Control and Learning Theories

Patients who have suffered impairment of their neuromotor abilities due to a disease or accident have to relearn to control their bodies. For example, after stroke the ability to coordinate the movements of the upper limb in order to reach and grasp an object could be severely damaged. Or in the case of amputees, the functional ability is completely lost

Ghost mtDNA haplotypes generated by fortuitous NUMTs can deeply disturb infra-specific genetic diversity and phylogeographic pattern

International audienceNuclear copies of mitochondrial DNA (NUMTs or mitochondrial pseudogenes) are known to impede the detection of interspecific genetic diversity. But the effect of these artifacts on phylogeographic reconstruction remains under evaluated. In this study, we analysed a set of 115 sequences of a fragment of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI) of Monochamus galloprovincialis (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae) for which overlapping signals in sequencing electropherograms were observed. Comparison of full and corrected ‘ambiguities-free’ data sets reveals the prevalence of numerous supernumerary haplotypes that deeply affect genetic diversity indices and phylogeographic patterns of this species. Slightly divergent pseudogenes were recovered in 49 of the 115 sequences. These results highlight the potential misdetection of NUMTs using current control methods and the consequences on phylogeographic structure. To test the frequency of unintended amplification of NUMTs, a cloning was performed on 15 individuals. An average of 3.72 and a maximum of six paralogous sequences with different levels of divergence were identified among individual cloned. Within individual pairwise distance between paralogs raised 1.4%. This work calls for awareness to the presence of undetected NUMTs within mitochondrial data sets, especially at infra-specific level
