Relationship Between the Quorum Network (Sensing/Quenching) and Clinical Features of Pneumonia and Bacteraemia Caused by A. baumannii

Acinetobacter baumannii (Ab) is one of the most important pathogens associated with nosocomial infections, especially pneumonia. Interest in the Quorum network, i.e., Quorum Sensing (QS)/Quorum Quenching (QQ), in this pathogen has grown in recent years. The Quorum network plays an important role in regulating diverse virulence factors such as surface motility and bacterial competition through the type VI secretion system (T6SS), which is associated with bacterial invasiveness. In the present study, we investigated 30 clinical strains of A. baumannii isolated in the “II Spanish Study of A. baumannii GEIH-REIPI 2000-2010” (Genbank Umbrella Bioproject PRJNA422585), a multicentre study describing the relationship between the Quorum network in A. baumannii and the development of pneumonia and associated bacteraemia. Expression of the aidA gene (encoding the AidA protein, QQ enzyme) was lower (P < 0.001) in strains of A. baumannii isolated from patients with bacteraemic pneumonia than in strains isolated from patients with non-bacteraemic pneumonia. Moreover, aidA expression in the first type of strain was not regulated in the presence of environmental stress factors such as the 3-oxo-C12-HSL molecule (substrate of AidA protein, QQ activation) or H2O2 (inhibitor of AidA protein, QS activation). However, in the A. baumannii strains isolated from patients with non-bacteraemic pneumonia, aidA gene expression was regulated by stressors such as 3-oxo-C12-HSL and H2O2. In an in vivo Galleria mellonella model of A. baumannii infection, the A. baumannii ATCC 17978 strain was associated with higher mortality (100% at 24 h) than the mutant, abaI-deficient, strain (carrying a synthetase enzyme of Acyl homoserine lactone molecules) (70% at 24 h). La Imagen y la Narrativa como Herramientas para el Abordaje Psicosocial en Escenarios de Violencia. Departamentos de Boyacá y Caldas

Para esta última fase del proceso formativo, se tuvo en cuenta cada uno de los recursos teóricos y audiovisuales sugeridos en el entorno de conocimiento. De igual forma y con la intención de lograr mejores resultados que ayuden a fortalecer las bases conceptuales y prácticas ya adquiridas, se indagaron fuentes adicionales permitiendo así, un abordaje y óptica más integral. Las víctimas del conflicto armado han vivido momentos difíciles y en ocasiones, esto ha conducido a situaciones de crisis a corto, mediano y largo plazo. Sin embargo, dichos sucesos han permitido en las víctimas, oportunidades para reconocer sus valores, capacidades, habilidades y recursos, dando paso a un adecuado proceso de adaptación social. En este documento encontrarán diferentes ejercicios académicos derivados del diplomado de profundización en acompañamiento psicosocial en escenarios de violencia, aspectos relacionados con historias de vida de víctimas del conflicto armado, lo que permite una reflexión académica en torno a las acciones psicosociales vinculando aspectos como la subjetividad y la interacción de actores. De igual modo, hace parte de este proceso la imagen y la narrativa; la herramienta de foto voz; el diseño y estructura de preguntas; el reconocimiento de impactos psicosociales y la formulación de estrategias para el abordaje psicosocial en escenarios de violencia.For the training process last phase, each one of the theoretical and audiovisual resources suggested in the knowledge environment were considered. Similarly, and with the intention of achieving better results which help to strength the conceptual and practical bases already acquired, additional sources were researched, allowing a more comprehensive approach and perspective. The victims of the armed conflict have lived through difficult times and, at times, this has led to crisis situations in the short, medium and long term. However, these events have allowed to the victims the opportunities to recognize their values, capacities, abilities and resources, giving way to an adequate process of social adaptation. In this paper you will find different academic exercises derived from the diploma deepening course in psychosocial accompaniment in violence scenarios, aspects related to victims life stories of armed conflict, which allows an academic reflection around the psychosocial actions linking aspects such as subjectivity and the actors interaction. In the same way, image and narrative are part of this process; the photo voice tool; the design and structure of questions; the recognition of psychosocial impacts and the formulation of strategies for the psychosocial approach in violence scenarios

Bolzano/Bozen Corpus: Coding Information about the Speaker in IMDI Metadata Structure

The paper introduces a new collection of spoken data (the Bolzano/Bozen Corpus) available through The Language Archive of Max Planck Institute of Nijmegen. It shows an example of the issues encountered in accommodating information of an existent corpus into IMDI metadata structure. Research of effectiveness and approval criteria for treatments with medications for patients with cancer: a review

Several malignant disorders of human tissues affect a large proportion of people in Colombia and worldwide, which has led to an increase in pharmacological treatments for these diseases, without the real benefit being clear to the patients who receive them. Furthermore, there are doubts about the quality of the evidence on which the institutions that support anticancer treatments with medications are based, such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Our objective was to know how efficacy studies are carried out and how treatments with medications offered to people with cancer are approved. A narrative review was carried out, which was based on the formulation of questions that guided the development of the topics that were included. The search strategy was done in PubMed in a structured but non-systematic way. Articles published in english and spanish were included, without restriction by publication date

Treatment with tocilizumab or corticosteroids for COVID-19 patients with hyperinflammatory state: a multicentre cohort study (SAM-COVID-19)

Objectives: The objective of this study was to estimate the association between tocilizumab or corticosteroids and the risk of intubation or death in patients with coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) with a hyperinflammatory state according to clinical and laboratory parameters. Methods: A cohort study was performed in 60 Spanish hospitals including 778 patients with COVID-19 and clinical and laboratory data indicative of a hyperinflammatory state. Treatment was mainly with tocilizumab, an intermediate-high dose of corticosteroids (IHDC), a pulse dose of corticosteroids (PDC), combination therapy, or no treatment. Primary outcome was intubation or death; follow-up was 21 days. Propensity score-adjusted estimations using Cox regression (logistic regression if needed) were calculated. Propensity scores were used as confounders, matching variables and for the inverse probability of treatment weights (IPTWs). Results: In all, 88, 117, 78 and 151 patients treated with tocilizumab, IHDC, PDC, and combination therapy, respectively, were compared with 344 untreated patients. The primary endpoint occurred in 10 (11.4%), 27 (23.1%), 12 (15.4%), 40 (25.6%) and 69 (21.1%), respectively. The IPTW-based hazard ratios (odds ratio for combination therapy) for the primary endpoint were 0.32 (95%CI 0.22-0.47; p < 0.001) for tocilizumab, 0.82 (0.71-1.30; p 0.82) for IHDC, 0.61 (0.43-0.86; p 0.006) for PDC, and 1.17 (0.86-1.58; p 0.30) for combination therapy. Other applications of the propensity score provided similar results, but were not significant for PDC. Tocilizumab was also associated with lower hazard of death alone in IPTW analysis (0.07; 0.02-0.17; p < 0.001). Este título, sugestivo por los impactos durante la situación de la Covid 19 en el mundo, y que en Colombia lastimosamente han sido muy críticos, permiten asumir la obligada superación de tensiones sociales, políticas, y económicas; pero sobre todo científicas y tecnológicas. El presente trabajo tiene como propósito realizar un acercamiento conceptual a los enfoques narrativos a partir de los relatos de vida de personas que sufrieron traumas por culpa de la violencia, a partir de la construcción colaborativa se realizarán preguntas, estratégicas, circulares y reflexivas con su respectiva justificación, donde se resolverán y se generará un debate participativo y argumentativo que aporte desde las teorías. También se analizará el caso Pandurí, donde su temática hace referencia a los procesos de violencia que son sometidas algunas poblaciones de nuestro país, planteando varias estrategias de abordaje psicosocial que faciliten la potenciación de recursos de afrontamiento a la situación expresada en dicho caso.The present work has as purpose to carry out a conceptual approach to the approaches narratives from the life stories of people who suffered traumas because of the violence, from the collaborative construction will be asked questions, strategic, circular and reflective with their respective justification, where they will be resolved and a debate will be generated participatory and argumentative that contributes from theories.
