    No shame to play: Ludic prosumption on Brazilian fanvideos

    Purpose – Fans are proactive consumers of pop culture products, who can be seen as prosumers. Fanvideo production is one of their most widespread practices in the participatory culture scenario. Thus, the aim of the present study is to analyze how ludic prosumption is featured on plays performed in Brazilian fanvideos based on successful pop culture franchises.Design/methodology/approach – Research based on the interpretive content analysis of fanvideos of plays produced by Brazilian fans based on five emblematic pop culture franchises and published on YouTube.Findings – Results have shown six play types in the analyzed fanvideos – i.e. child’s play, performing powers, cosplay, play in social rites, teaching to play and “zu^era” –, which revealed a way of having fun in different situations through different practices based on ludic consumption experiences in different spheres of social life.Originality/value – CCT-based studies focused on investigating plays as ludic consumption phenomenon, as well as fan culture, remain at early research stage. Thus, the main contribution of the present study lies on associating such concepts based on the concept of prosumption

    Análise da cobertura do exame citopatológico do colo de útero no município de Anápolis, Goiás / Analysis of the coverage of the cervical cytopathological examination in the municipality of Anápolis, Goiás

    O câncer do colo do útero (CCU) é um problema de saúde pública com altos índices de mortalidade. A principal estratégia de prevenção é o exame citopatológico (ECp), conhecido como teste Papanicolaou. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar o conhecimento das mulheres de Anápolis-GO sobre o exame Papanicolaou no que se relaciona à finalidade do exame, sua relação com CCU e a infecção pelo papiloma vírus humano (do inglês Human Papiloma Virus, HPV), bem como a adesão das mulheres, nível de cobertura e principais fatores relacionados a não realização do exame. Se trata de um estudo transversal, descritivo e quantitativo, realizado por meio de questionário semiestruturado, na forma de entrevista. Foram entrevistadas 577 mulheres, faixa etária prevalente de 34 a 49 anos, casadas, ensino médio, e número de filhos menor que três. 93,6% das mulheres já ouviram falar do ECp e suas finalidades, porém uma minoria relacionou HPV a CCU. A maioria das mulheres realizam o exame anualmente, entretanto não sabem informar no mínimo dois cuidados relacionados ao preparo para o exame, e a principal motivação da realização é recomendação médica/exame de rotina. Quanto aos motivos de não realização, os mais citados foram dificuldades para realização do exame e não solicitação do médico. Conclui-se que apesar da prática do ECp ser abrangente entre as mulheres, os profissionais de saúde devem interagir de maneira mais efetiva estabelecendo vínculos de confiança que se sobreponha os motivos de não adesão e que garanta maior acesso da população a informações sobre o CCU

    Pervasive gaps in Amazonian ecological research

    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     The European Reference Genome Atlas: piloting a decentralised approach to equitable biodiversity genomics.

    ABSTRACT: A global genome database of all of Earth’s species diversity could be a treasure trove of scientific discoveries. However, regardless of the major advances in genome sequencing technologies, only a tiny fraction of species have genomic information available. To contribute to a more complete planetary genomic database, scientists and institutions across the world have united under the Earth BioGenome Project (EBP), which plans to sequence and assemble high-quality reference genomes for all ∼1.5 million recognized eukaryotic species through a stepwise phased approach. As the initiative transitions into Phase II, where 150,000 species are to be sequenced in just four years, worldwide participation in the project will be fundamental to success. As the European node of the EBP, the European Reference Genome Atlas (ERGA) seeks to implement a new decentralised, accessible, equitable and inclusive model for producing high-quality reference genomes, which will inform EBP as it scales. To embark on this mission, ERGA launched a Pilot Project to establish a network across Europe to develop and test the first infrastructure of its kind for the coordinated and distributed reference genome production on 98 European eukaryotic species from sample providers across 33 European countries. Here we outline the process and challenges faced during the development of a pilot infrastructure for the production of reference genome resources, and explore the effectiveness of this approach in terms of high-quality reference genome production, considering also equity and inclusion. The outcomes and lessons learned during this pilot provide a solid foundation for ERGA while offering key learnings to other transnational and national genomic resource projects.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Neotropical freshwater fisheries : A dataset of occurrence and abundance of freshwater fishes in the Neotropics

    The Neotropical region hosts 4225 freshwater fish species, ranking first among the world's most diverse regions for freshwater fishes. Our NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set is the first to produce a large-scale Neotropical freshwater fish inventory, covering the entire Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean in the north to the southern limits in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. We compiled 185,787 distribution records, with unique georeferenced coordinates, for the 4225 species, represented by occurrence and abundance data. The number of species for the most numerous orders are as follows: Characiformes (1289), Siluriformes (1384), Cichliformes (354), Cyprinodontiformes (245), and Gymnotiformes (135). The most recorded species was the characid Astyanax fasciatus (4696 records). We registered 116,802 distribution records for native species, compared to 1802 distribution records for nonnative species. The main aim of the NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set was to make these occurrence and abundance data accessible for international researchers to develop ecological and macroecological studies, from local to regional scales, with focal fish species, families, or orders. We anticipate that the NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set will be valuable for studies on a wide range of ecological processes, such as trophic cascades, fishery pressure, the effects of habitat loss and fragmentation, and the impacts of species invasion and climate change.
