SUMMARY Atrioventricular valvular regurgitation is a common echocardiographic finding in both dogs and humans with complete atrioventricular block. The severity of both mitral and tricuspid regurgitation is mild and hemodynamically non significant. The condition can be easily diagnosed by means of either color-flow doppler and spectral doppler. The jet originates from the site of coaptation of valvular leaflets and is centrally directed. Nevertheless, because of the limited size of the regurgitant jet, the combined use of color-flow and spectral doppler can help in placing the sample gate and align for the doppler study. Lack of ventricular contraction following atrial contraction leads to reflux of blood into the atrial cavities, presumably due to atrioventricular pressure gradient reversal and incomplete closure of the mitral valve. The presence of valvular insufficiency and consequent systolic regurgitation is not a prerequisite for diastolic reflux to occur in case of complete atrioventricular block

Treatment of canine leishmaniasis: Long term molecular and serological observations

The aim of the present paper was to evaluate the anti-Leishmania activity of 3 different protocols of treatment (miltefosine plus allopurinol, difloxacin cloridrate plus metronidazole and meglumine antimoniate plus allopurinol) in 42 dogs naturally infected by L. infantum, during a 24-months parasitological and clinical follow-up. Our results suggest that, apart from miltefosine, the other two therapeutic regimens could be evaluated to treat animals with canL in medium-endemicity areas

Intrinsic time resolution of 3D-trench silicon pixels for charged particle detection

    Get PDF
In the last years, high-resolution time tagging has emerged as the tool to tackle the problem of high-track density in the detectors of the next generation of experiments at particle colliders. Time resolutions below 50ps and event average repetition rates of tens of MHz on sensor pixels having a pitch of 50Ό\mum are typical minimum requirements. This poses an important scientific and technological challenge on the development of particle sensors and processing electronics. The TIMESPOT initiative (which stands for TIME and SPace real-time Operating Tracker) aims at the development of a full prototype detection system suitable for the particle trackers of the next-to-come particle physics experiments. This paper describes the results obtained on the first batch of TIMESPOT silicon sensors, based on a novel 3D MEMS (micro electro-mechanical systems) design. Following this approach, the performance of other ongoing silicon sensor developments has been matched and overcome, while using a technology which is known to be robust against radiation degradation. A time resolution of the order of 20ps has been measured at room temperature suggesting also possible improvements after further optimisations of the front-end electronics processing stage.Comment: This version was accepted to be published on JINST on 21/07/202

Fabrication and Characterisation of 3D Diamond Pixel Detectors With Timing Capabilities

    Get PDF
Diamond sensors provide a promising radiation hard solution to the challenges posed by the future experiments at hadron machines. A 3D geometry with thin columnar resistive electrodes orthogonal to the diamond surface, obtained by laser nanofabrication, is expected to provide significantly better time resolution with respect to the extensively studied planar diamond sensors. We report on the development, production, and characterisation of innovative 3D diamond sensors achieving 30% improvement in both space and time resolution with respect to sensors from the previous generation. This is the first complete characterisation of the time resolution of 3D diamond sensors and combines results from tests with laser, beta rays and high energy particle beams. Plans and strategies for further improvement in the fabrication technology and readout systems are also discussed

    Search for the rare decays B0→J/ÏˆÎłB^{0}\to J/\psi \gamma and Bs0→J/ÏˆÎłB^{0}_{s} \to J/\psi \gamma

A search for the rare decay of a B0B^{0} or Bs0B^{0}_{s} meson into the final state J/ÏˆÎłJ/\psi\gamma is performed, using data collected by the LHCb experiment in pppp collisions at s=7\sqrt{s}=7 and 88 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb−1^{-1}. The observed number of signal candidates is consistent with a background-only hypothesis. Branching fraction values larger than 1.7×10−61.7\times 10^{-6} for the B0→J/ÏˆÎłB^{0}\to J/\psi\gamma decay mode are excluded at 90% confidence level. For the Bs0→J/ÏˆÎłB^{0}_{s}\to J/\psi\gamma decay mode, branching fraction values larger than 7.4×10−67.4\times 10^{-6} are excluded at 90% confidence level, this is the first branching fraction limit for this decay.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://lhcbproject.web.cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/LHCbProjectPublic/LHCb-PAPER-2015-044.htm

Search for heavy neutral lepton production in K+ decays

    Get PDF
A search for heavy neutral lepton production in K + decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015 is reported. Upper limits at the 10−7 to 10−6 level are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix |Ue4| 2 and |UÎŒ4| 2 for heavy neutral lepton mass in the ranges 170–448 MeV/c2 and 250–373 MeV/c2, respectively. This improves on the previous limits from HNL production searches over the whole mass range considered for |Ue4|2 and above 300 MeV/c2 for |UÎŒ4|2

Multidifferential study of identified charged hadron distributions in ZZ-tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at s=\sqrt{s}=13 TeV

Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against a ZZ boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 <pT<100< p_{\textrm{T}} < 100 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range 2.5<η<42.5 < \eta < 4. The data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb−1^{-1}. Triple differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse-momentum-dependent fragmentation functions. Differences in the shapes and magnitudes of the measured distributions for the different hadron species provide insights into the hadronization process for jets predominantly initiated by light quarks.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any supplementary material and additional information, are available at https://cern.ch/lhcbproject/Publications/p/LHCb-PAPER-2022-013.html (LHCb public pages
