The interaction with consume products has been changing due to the development of the technology, which often turns out to be a barrier rather than an opportunity for people with disabilities. Appliances in general and particularly washing machines have gone from having physical controls to have touch controls. For that reason, the main objective of this paper is to analyse the accessibility of washing machine interfaces. Therefore, a sample of four washing machines has been selected. After that, using Hierarchical Task Analysis and observation tools the sequence of use has been defined and demanded capabilities have been evaluated. Eventually, by means of the Exclusion Calculator the number of excluded people for the interaction with the machines has been obtained, not only in terms of capacities, but also regarding their age. At this point, the results define the main characteristics to consider when designing accessible washing machines

Graves’ orbitopathy (GO) is the most common extrathyroidal manifestation of Graves’ disease (GD). Our aim was to assess the e cacy and safety of Tocilizumab (TCZ) in GO refractory to conventional therapy. This was an open-label multicenter study of glucocorticoid-resistant GO treated with TCZ. The main outcomes were the best-corrected visual acuity (BVCA), Clinical Activity Score (CAS) and intraocular pressure (IOP). These outcome variables were assessed at baseline, 1st, 3rd, 6th and 12th month after TCZ therapy onset. The severity of GO was assessed according to the European Group on Graves’ Orbitopathy (EUGOGO). We studied 48 (38 women and 10 men) patients (95 eyes); mean age standard deviation 51 11.8 years. Before TCZ and besides oral glucocorticoids, they had received IV methylprednisolone (n = 43), or selenium (n = 11). GO disease was moderate (n =29) or severe (n = 19) and dysthyroid optic neuropathy (DON) (n = 7). TCZ was used in monotherapy (n = 45) or combined (n = 3) at a dose of 8 mg/kg IV every four weeks (n = 43) or 162 mg/s.c. every week (n = 5). TCZ yielded a significant improvement in all of the main outcomes at the 1st month that was maintained at one year. Comparing the baseline with data at 1 year all of the variables improved; BCVA (0.78 0.25 vs. 0.9 0.16; p = 0.0001), CAS (4.64 1.5 vs. 1.05 1.27; p = 0.0001) and intraocular pressure (IOP) (19.05 4.1 vs. 16.73 3.4 mmHg; p = 0.007). After a mean follow-up of 16.1 2.1 months, low disease activity (CAS 3), was achieved in 88 eyes (92.6%) and TCZ was withdrawn in 29 cases due to low disease activity (n = 25) or ine cacy (n = 4). No serious adverse events were observed. In conclusion, TCZ is a useful and safe therapeutic option in refractory GO treatment. This work was also partially supported by RETICS Programs, RD08/0075 (RIER) and RD12/0009/0013 from “Instituto de Salud Carlos III” (ISCIII) (Spain)

In recent years, work around the mass graves of victims of the civil war and Francoist dictatorship has been done by several teams of professionals from different áreas who deal with the work of recovery and identification of these victims. Specifically, different studies have been carried out about gender-specific repression suffered by republican women during the civil war and the subsequent Franco regime, such as the works of Laura Muñoz-Encinar (2019) in cases of extrajudicial executions of women in Extremadura. In the Paterna Cemetery, 20 of the almost 2,237 victims buried in their mass graves are women. This work carries out the particular case of mass grave 21, exhumed by the team of the ArqueoAntro scientific association in 2021, where the skeletal remains of three of these women are found, according to the studies of the historian Vicent Gabarda (2007). These women were executed in compliance with the sentence imposed through summary trials. Previous Works carried out in this context in the graves of Paterna (López García, 2021) have shown that the specific repression is found, mainly, in the summary processes themselves. We propose an interdisciplinary study of this case of the three women victims of the repression of pit 21, covering from the historiographical, archaeological, anthropological, archival and genetic fields, to show the advances and limitations that wefound when recovering their history

SURINPARK: Safinamide for Urinary Symptoms in Parkinson’s Disease

Background: Urinary symptoms are common, disabling and generally unresponsive to treatment in Parkinson´s disease (PD). Safinamide is approved as an add-on therapy to levodopa to improve fluctuations. Methods: Retrospective analysis of electronic records of nondemented PD patients seen consecutively in a Movement Disorders Unit (November 2018–February 2019). All were assessed with Scale for Outcomes in Parkinson’s disease for Autonomic Symptoms-Urinary subscale (SCOPA-AUT-U) by the attending neurologist, and a month afterwards by an independent researcher blinded to treatment and clinical records in a routine clinical practice setting. Clinical variables were compared among patients who were prescribed safinamide (SA+) for the treatment of motor fluctuations and those with different treatment regimes (SA−). Results: From 169 patients screened initially, 54 were excluded due to severe incontinence, absence of urinary symptoms or previous safinamide treatment. Thirty-five patients were included in SA+ and 79 in SA−. Both groups were comparable in terms of clinical variables, except in basal urinary symptoms, with more severity in the SA+ group. In the follow-up assessment, total SCOPA-AUT-U, as well as urgency, incontinence, frequency and nocturia subscales improved significantly in the SA+ group, while the SA− group remained unchanged. Conclusions: Safinamide could be helpful in the improvement of urinary symptoms in PD

Mpox: Clinical Outcomes and Impact of Vaccination in People with and without HIV: A Population-Wide Study

We investigated differences in mpox clinical outcomes in people with HIV (PWH) and without HIV (PWoH) and the impact of vaccination in Catalonia, Spain. We used surveillance data and the PISCIS HIV cohort. We included all confirmed mpox cases (May–December 2022). Of 2122 mpox cases, the majority had mild disease, 56% were Spanish, and 24% were from Latin America. A total of 40% were PWH, with a median CD4+T-cell of 715 cells/μL; 83% had HIV-RNA p = 0.001). Diagnosis of other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) was common, both at mpox diagnosis (17%) and two years before (43%). Dose-sparing smallpox intradermal vaccination was accompanied by a sharp decrease in mpox incidence in both populations (p < 0.0001). In conclusion, unless immunosuppressed, PWH were not at increased risk of severe disease or hospitalization. Mpox is a marker of high-risk sexual behavior and was associated with high HIV and STI rates, supporting the need for screening in all mpox cases. Ethnicity disparities demonstrate the need for interventions to ensure equitable healthcare access. Dose-sparing smallpox vaccination retained effectiveness
