    Aktiivinen ikÀÀntyminen

    TÀmÀn tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli tutkia hoitohenkilökunnan nÀkemyksiÀ aktiivisesta ikÀÀntymisestÀ ja sen toteutumisesta KylÀsaaren Palvelukodissa. Tutkimuksen tuloksia voidaan hyödyntÀÀ aktiivisen ikÀÀntymisen edistÀmisessÀ palvelukoti ympÀristössÀ. Tutkimus on kvalitatiivinen, ja aineistonkeruumenetelmÀnÀ kÀytettiin avoimista ky- symyksistÀ tehtyÀ kyselylomaketta. Aineistonkeruu tapahtui loka- marraskuun 2013 vaihteessa ja kyselylomakkeita annetiin yhteensÀ 10 kappaletta. Kyselylomakkeita tuli takaisin 9 kappaletta eli vastausprosentti oli 90. Aineiston analyysissÀ kÀytettiin teemoittelua ja sanallista kuvailua. Tulosten analysoinnissa esitettiin myös suoria lainauksia hoitohenkilökunnan vastauksista. Tutkimustuloksista todettiin, ettÀ KylÀsaaren palvelukodin hoitohenkilökunnalla oli hyvin samankaltaisia kÀsityksiÀ aktiivisesta ikÀÀntymisestÀ. Suurin osa oli sitÀ miel- tÀ, ettÀ aktiivista ikÀÀntymistÀ on havaittavissa KylÀsaaren palvelukodissa, mutta sitÀ ei ole riittÀvÀsti. TÀmÀn todettiin johtuvan henkilöstöresurssien vÀhyydestÀ ja sen aiheuttamasta kiireestÀ. Hoitohenkilökunta haluaisi enemmÀn aikaa, jotta he pystyisivÀt jÀrjestÀmÀÀn enemmÀn toimintaa asukkaille

    Webbsidor Ă€r mer Ă€n ett företags visitkort, en webbsida Ă€r för besökaren en viktig kanal för information. Internet anvĂ€nds idag av företag, stater och kommuner vĂ€rlden över. Mitt Ă€mne handlar om webbsidor och hur man kan göra dem bĂ€ttre. I teoridelen klargör jag vad internet-anvĂ€ndbarhet Ă€r. I analysdelen anvĂ€nder jag Eye tracking som ett verk-tyg för att analysera tre bensinföretags webbsidor. Eye tracking gĂ„r ut pĂ„ att man spelar in ögonrörelser dĂ„ en testperson tittar pĂ„ en webbsida och analyserar resultatet via bl.a. Heat-maps. Bensinföretagen vars webbsidor jag undersöker Ă€r Teboil, St1 och SEO. Syftet med analysen Ă€r att fĂ„ djupare syn pĂ„ hur man ser pĂ„ sidorna och hur man möjlig-en kunde göra dem bĂ€ttre. Via Eye trackningen svarar testpersonerna pĂ„ tvĂ„ frĂ„gor per bensinföretag. Tid per frĂ„ga har testpersonerna en minut. Jag fĂ„r ocksĂ„ via testet svar pĂ„ hur testpersonerna upplever nĂ€tsidorna i sin helhet. Testet utförs lyckat i Arcadas ut-rymmen av 20 studerande. Resultatet frĂ„n min undersökning visade att man med fĂ€rger, text i staplar, navigering, större text samt bĂ€ttre utnyttjande av webbsidan i sin helhet kan göra sidorna anvĂ€ndarvĂ€nligare. En uppenbar förbĂ€ttring för besökaren skulle vara om man för de större bemannade bensinstationer, med bilserviceverkstĂ€der och cafĂ©-verksamhet, skulle ha egna webbsidor lĂ€nkade till huvudsidan.Webpages are more than a company’s business card - a website is for the visitor an im-portant channel of information. Internet is used by companies, governments and munici-palities worldwide. My thesis deals with websites and how to make them better. In the theoretical part I clarify what internet usability is. In the analysis part I use Eye tracking as a tool to analyze three gasoline companies' websites. Through Eye tracking you can record eye movements when a test person is looking at a webpage and analyze the result by e.g. heat-maps. Gasoline companies whose websites I examine are Teboil, St1, SEO. The purpose of this analysis is to gain a deeper understanding of how you look at the pag-es and how you possibly could make them better. Via Eye tracking test persons seeks the answer to two questions per gasoline company. Time per question is one minute. I also get through the test answers on how the test persons experiencing the webpages. The test is performed successfully in Arcada’s (University of Applied Science, Helsinki) premises by 20 students. The results showed that you can with colors, text in columns, navigating tools, larger text and better use of the webpage as a whole make the pages more user friendly. An obvious improvement for the visitor would be if the larger manned gasoline stations, with car service and cafĂ©, would have their own web- pages linked to the main page

    Human resource management practices for self-initiated expatriates

    The aim of this study is to increase the understanding of human resource management practices of self-initiated expatriates (foreign nationals hired externally), and to formulate a model of HRM of SIEs. In this study, it is found out how the HRM practices affect the SIEs, which factors affect the formation of HRM practices for SIEs and what kind of HRM practices organizations have for their SIEs. The study consists of theoretical and empirical parts. The first theoretical part deals with SIEs and their characteristics compared to assigned expatriates (AEs). The second part of the theoretical framework focuses on the changing patterns of international staffing in multinational enterprises and discusses the HRM practices for SIEs. In the end of the theoretical part, a model of HRM practices for SIEs is formulated which is used as the base for the empirical study. This study was conducted as a qualitative case study, and three different organizations from multinational enterprises were chosen to the interviews. From each organization an SIE and HR professional / manager were interviewed. The research results indicate that HRM practices for SIEs do exist and the organizations modify and adjust their basic HRM practices according to the fact that the hired employee is a foreign national. Various organizational, institutional and individual factors shape the way the HRM practices are developed and thus they depend on these factors.     Affecting corporate image through sustainable business model innovation

    Abstract. The main goal of this research was to find out how a sustainable business model innovation can affect corporate image. Additional goals of this research were to also find out if consumer trust is needed for a sustainable business model innovation to affect corporate image, and if customer service linked to the innovation can affect it as well. Based on the previous research, this research proposed corporate image can be affected through corporate social responsibility actions, with a focus on mainly philanthropical actions, and customer service. The research was conducted as qualitative research, and as a case study. The chosen case company was Fiskars Group, and the sustainable business model innovation was Iittala’s Vintage Service. The data was gathered through an online questionnaire, where students at university of Oulu answered short text answers and multiple-choice questions. The responders were asked what has affected their image of Fiskars Group, if finding out about the Vintage Service had any effects on said image, and if they had used the Vintage Service. The main findings of this research are that consumer trust is needed for the sustainable business model innovation to affect corporate image, and customer service experiences linked to the innovation can affect corporate image as well. It was discovered that without consumer trust, the sustainable business model innovation either does not affect corporate image at all, or the effects are negative. The research also found that without consumer trust, the consumers are more likely to question the motives behind the sustainable business model innovation, and even suspect greenwashing. The results cannot be generalized due to the small sample of the research. However, to gain results that can be generalized, this research could be recreated with a bigger sample, or with other sustainable business model innovations. Deeper understanding of how a sustainable business model innovation can affect corporate image can also be discovered through interviews, or by having a bigger sample of answers in a questionnaire

    Methods to improve debug flow for intellectual property protection

    Abstract. Every company wants to protect their intellectual property and limit customer visibility of confidential information. A company may protect its proprietary information by different ways. This thesis will compare different methods that try to protect intellectual property while maintaining the software debugging capability. Working with binary libraries without debug information makes customer support very difficult. When a company is developing a new product, time to market is important. Usually, the last months are very busy resolving urgent customer issues. Especially during this period, the slow process of debugging customer issues without debug information can cause delays and increase time to market. The goal of this thesis is to compare methods that protects intellectual property by making reverse engineering more difficult. Study of the upcoming GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) features related to debug data formats, such as DWARF5, is also carried out while working with the thesis. The approaches tried were split DWARF, injecting ELF files, stripping debug data, and code obfuscation. Also optimisation and their effect on disassembly was studied. The best solution was to compile the software with debug symbols and strip them to a separate file. This way the symbol data can be loaded separately into GDB. Tarkoituksena on myös tutkia tulevia GNU kÀÀntÀjÀ-kokoelman (GCC:n) ominaisuuksia liittyen virheenkorjaustietoformaatteihin, kuten DWARF5. Ongelman ratkaisuun koitettiin pilkottuja virheenkorjaustietoja, ELFtiedoston injektointia, virheenkorjaustiedon riisumista ohjelmistosta ja koodin obfuskointia.     Heating system decision:a study based on newly built detached houses in Finland

    Abstract. This study examines new detached house owners’ residential heating system choice determinants in Finland. The randomly drawn survey-based research includes three separate interrelated empirical models. An overview of Finnish household space heating is included. Residential space heating system is a long-term investment, and the sector forms a significant part of energy consumption. The theoretical framework builds on the random utility theory and discrete choice models. With binomial logit formulations, we study the factors that impact the ground source heat pump adoption and the determinants to acquire innovative supplementary heating systems. Study of the primary heating system choice determinants among five distinct alternative categories is done with a multinomial logit model. The dependent variables are actual heating system choices. The survey design gives us the chance to observe stated preferences as explanatory variables. We discover substantial heterogeneity in consumer preferences. There are statistically significant explanatory variables related to socio-demographics, house-type, the geographical area and heating system specific factors. Variable cost is the largest driver for ground source heat pump selection. Other issues that have a considerable impact are system comfort, larger home, self-sufficiency requirement and expert opinions. Innovative supplementary heating system as a part of hybrid generation can create significant efficiency gains. The determinants to acquire such system suggest the desire to remain interconnected with the grid, whereas investment cost can hinder the adoption. Energy performance certificate seems to drive the air-source heat pump choice. It appears that impacting variable price expectations could alter heating system choice. The multinomial analysis implies to cost and comfort considerations having a bigger impact than environmental attitudes. Post-decision satisfaction comments suggest a considerable need for system function check-up including the settings, especially for the heat pumps

    Speed and Accuracy of Gaze Gestures

    We conducted an experiment where participants carried out six gaze gesture tasks. The gaze paths were analyzed to find out the speed and accuracy of the gaze gestures. As a result, the gaze gestures took more time than we anticipated and only the very fastest participants got close to what was expected. There was not much difference in performance times between small and large gaze gestures, because the participants reached significantly faster speed when making large gestures than small gestures. Curved shapes were found difficult to follow and time-consuming when followed properly. In general, the accuracy in following shapes was sometimes very poor. We believe that to improve the speed and accuracy of gaze gestures, proper feedback must be used more than in our experiment

    Monte Carlo Simulations of the Transition Radiation Detector of the AMS-02 Experiment

    The Transition Radiation Detector of the AMS-02 experiment on the International Space Station is used for the separation of cosmic-ray positrons and electrons from protons and anti-protons, and for the identification of nuclei up to carbon (Z<=6). We present the Geant4 simulation that is used to describe the ionization and transition radiation processes and compare its results to flight data from AMS-02. After applying empirical corrections to the simulated data, the particle energy deposition and likelihood distributions in the TRD are described with high accuracy.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures.
