Developing downloadable TUIs for online pedagogic activities

The Web has changed how we interact with the World’s information and knowledge. As a result there have been several changes to the education sector, especially in online distance learning. Nevertheless, most of the e-Learning activities struggle to break the GUI paradigm. The HCI community has focused on the use of Tangible User Interfaces (TUI) for pedagogic purposes thus producing some evidence of the potential that embodied cognition might bring to constructivist learning. New education movements such as the Edupunk movement argue for an empowerment of independent learners, following the constructivist perspective where learners have to have a more active role by experimenting and discovering concepts on their own. However, we think that accessing TUI systems via Web can lead to pedagogic activities that break the GUI paradigm in education on the Web. This paper presents a case study: three prototypes of TUIs for online learning and exploration were developed and tested, investigating the usability and engagement provided by this kind of interactive tools. <br/

Electrooptical behavior of twisted-wedge nematic structures

A new type of domain in twisted-wedge negative nematics is reported. The wedge shape allows the separation of ordinary and extraordinary beams that can be studied separately. In these conditions, at least five different regions can be detected, depending on applied voltages and frequencies. Both rays are shown to yield different diffraction patterns. The relative light intensity of several spots of these paterns is also studied

Este artículo presenta la relación entre escuela y comunidad como una autoobservación de los centros educativos. La manera en cómo se define la escuela a sí misma está directamente relacionada con el modo en que ésta observa a su comunidad y con las características del sistema educativo. La perspectiva de los sistemas sociales complejos planteada en este artículo es especificada con los resultados de una investigación de caso. A su vez, esta perspectiva se analiza desde distintas experiencias de trabajo social desarrolladas por la autora en escuelas situadas en barrios pobres de Montevideo. Sintaxis

Para nosotros, desde el principio, hemos tenido una clara inquietud por construir. Y que nuestros trabajos no se quedaran en el papel. Entendemos que la arquitectura alcanza su plenitud con la materialización. Siempre hemos dedicado mucho tiempo al proceso de dar realidad a la ideas. Intentando que tanto éstas ideas como su materialización presentaran una lectura clara de acuerdo a sus condicionantes de partida. Defendemos una arquitectura comprensible. _ Proyectar es “medir” y “unir” desde lo más conceptual, a lo organizativo, hasta lo más concreto o constructivo. Y todo esto se debe producir en sucesivas aproximaciones en la vida de un proyecto. La arquitectura es medir e unir: es una sintaxis. _Inevitablemente la realización de un proyecto, el complejo proceso de la resolución de la necesidades fracciona lo idealizado en la génesis del de este. Y es ahí donde el arquitecto debe decidir. _Mostraremos varios de los proyectos realizados en el estudio, realizados en lugares donde el contexto estaba muy marcado.. Y como los hemos ido conformado materialmente, en torno a las dudas, de alguna forma de sentido a nuestra conferencia y hablen de nuestra sintaxis.Universidad de Málaga.
