    Moduli Spaces and Formal Operads

Let overline{M}_{g,n} be the moduli space of stable algebraic curves of genus g with n marked points. With the operations which relate the different moduli spaces identifying marked points, the family (overline{M}_{g,n})_{g,n} is a modular operad of projective smooth Deligne-Mumford stacks, overline{M}. In this paper we prove that the modular operad of singular chains C_*(overline{M};Q) is formal; so it is weakly equivalent to the modular operad of its homology H_*(overline{M};Q). As a consequence, the "up to homotopy" algebras of these two operads are the same. To obtain this result we prove a formality theorem for operads analogous to Deligne-Griffiths-Morgan-Sullivan formality theorem, the existence of minimal models of modular operads, and a characterization of formality for operads which shows that formality is independent of the ground field.Comment: 36 pages (v3: some typographical corrections

A Cartan-Eilenberg approach to Homotopical Algebra

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose an approach to homotopical algebra where the basic ingredient is a category with two classes of distinguished morphisms: strong and weak equivalences. These data determine the cofibrant objects by an extension property analogous to the classical lifting property of projective modules. We define a Cartan-Eilenberg category as a category with strong and weak equivalences such that there is an equivalence between its localization with respect to weak equivalences and the localised category of cofibrant objets with respect to strong equivalences. This equivalence allows us to extend the classical theory of derived additive functors to this non additive setting. The main examples include Quillen model categories and functor categories with a triple, in the last case we find examples in which the class of strong equivalences is not determined by a homotopy relation. Among other applications, we prove the existence of filtered minimal models for \emph{cdg} algebras over a zero-characteristic field and we formulate an acyclic models theorem for non additive functors

Deep Learning-Based Magnetic Coupling Detection for Advanced Induction Heating Appliances

    Get PDF
Induction heating has become the reference technology for domestic heating applications due to its benefits in terms of performance, efficiency and safety, among others. In this context, recent design trends aim at providing highly flexible cooking surfaces composed of multi-coil structures. As in many other wireless power transfer systems, one of the main challenges to face is the proper detection of the magnetic coupling with the induction heating load in order to provide improved thermal performance and safe power electronic converter operation. This is specially challenging due to the high variability in the materials used in cookware as well as the random pot placement in flexible induction heating appliances. This paper proposes the use of deep learning techniques in order to provide accurate area overlap estimation regardless of the used pot and its position. An experimental test-bench composed of a complete power converter, multi-coil system and real-Time measurement system has been implemented and used in this study to characterize the parameter variation with overlapped area. Convolutional neural networks are then proposed as an effective method to estimate the covered area, and several implementations are studied and compared according to their computational cost and accuracy. As a conclusion, the presented deep learning-based technique is proposed as an effective tool to estimate the magnetic coupling between the coil and the induction heating load in advanced induction heating appliances

Altres ajuts: acords transformatius de la UABObjectives Our research aims to compare the perception that children in the pediatric palliative care setting have of their emotional well-being, or that expressed by the parents, with the perception held by the professionals involved in their care. Methods In this cross-sectional study, the emotional well-being of 30 children with a mean age of 10.8 years (standard deviation [SD] = 6.1) is evaluated. Children, or parents where necessary, evaluate their situation with a question about emotional well-being on a 0-10 visual analog scale. For each child, a health professional also rates the child's emotional status using the same scale. Results The average child's emotional well-being score provided by children or parents was 7.1 (SD = 1.6), while the average score given by health professionals was 5.6 (SD = 1.2). Children or parents graded the children's emotional well-being significantly higher than professionals (t-test = 4.6, p-value < .001). Health professionals rated the children's emotional well-being significantly lower when the disease status was progressive than when the disease was not (t-test = 2.2, p-value = .037). Significance of results Children themselves, or their parents, report more positive evaluations of emotional well-being than health professionals. Sociodemographic and disease variables do not seem to have a direct influence on this perception, rather it is more likely that children, parents, and professionals focus on different aspects and that children or parents need to hold on to a more optimistic vision. We must emphasize that when this difference is more pronounced, it can be a warning sign that further analysis is required of the situation

Effects of calcium carbonate inclusion in low fishmeal diets on growth, gastrointestinal pH, digestive enzyme activity and gut bacterial community of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) juveniles

Fishmeal (FM) possesses one of the highest buffering capacities in comparison to most alternative vegetable aquafeed ingredients and its decreasing content in current formulations might affect the ideal gastrointestinal environment for digestive enzyme action and gut bacterial community of carnivorous fish species. A study was undertaken, therefore, to assess growth response, gastrointestinal pH, digestive enzyme activity and gut bacterial community of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L.) juveniles fed low FM diets (10% FM) with or without a feed buffering additive, calcium carbonate (FM10 + B and FM10, respectively) in comparison to a standard FM diet (20% FM, FM20). Three isonitrogenous and isolipidic extruded diets were fed to triplicate fish groups of 80 individuals (initial weight: 23 g) to overfeeding over 64 days. No significant differences due to low FM dietary levels were observed in final body weight, specific growth rate, feed intake, feed and protein efficiency. Low FM diet did not affect gastrointestinal pH in the stomach, anterior intestine, mid-intestine and hindgut at 0, 4, 8 and 12 hours post meal (hpm) while the inclusion of calcium carbonate in low FM diet seems to slightly increase the pH in the hindgut at 12 hpm. The absence of significant differences of pepsin, chymotrypsin, amylase and lipase activity suggests a comparable digestive efficiency among treatments although trypsin activity was slightly reduced in low FM diets after 4 hpm. Decreasing FM content seems to exert an effect on the overall gut bacterial community analysed by next-generation sequencing even if no significant effects on specific bacterial component were detected. The gut bacterial community in all the treatments was particularly rich in lactic acid bacteria such as Lactobacillus spp. which may provide important beneficial functions for the host and be associated with a healthy intestinal epithelium. According to the results, increasing the feed buffering capacity does not seem to improve digestive conditions while it is feasible to include 10% FM dietary level in practical formulation for European sea bass juveniles without negatively affecting growth, feed efficiency and digestive luminal conditions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
