Space, mass and ornament in the Gothic-Renaissance transition in Spain
La introducción en España de
las nuevas formas y sintaxis
renacentistas a lo largo del
siglo xvi no se produjo con un
abandono radical e inmediato de
los viejos usos góticos, de validez
comprobada en trascendentales
cuestiones del diseño
arquitectónico. La renovación de
la producción fue heterogénea y
en cierto modo particular de cada
artífice, según su formación previa
y el grado de contacto, coherencia
y compromiso con las novedades
italianas, generando un panorama
híbrido y plural en la arquitectura
del quinientos hispano.
Atendiendo a significativos textos
y documentos gráficos de la
época, se pretende rastrear los
cambios, e inercias, en el proceso
de diseño arquitectónico durante
esta larga etapa de transición,
estructurando el análisis a partir
de tres categorías sustanciales,
interdependientes y autónomas a la
vez: espacio, masa y ornato.During the sixteenth century the
new Renaissance forms were
introduced in Spain, but the
Gothic procedures continued
to be used due to their proven
validity for the architectural
design. The renovation of the
architecture was heterogeneous
and different for each master, according to his previous
training and his knowledge of the
new Italian forms. This involved
a hybrid and plural context in
the Spanish architecture of the
16th century.
The changes and continuities of
the architectural design process
during this transitory stage are
investigated in this paper, based
on significant texts and graphic
documents of this period. The
analysis is structured based on
three substantial architectural
categories, which are
simultaneously interdependent
and autonomous: space, mass

a programmable global resonation and a variable
loop-filter order. These techniques are properly com-
bined in a novel topology that allows to increase the effec-
tive resolution in a given bandwidth, whereas keeping
relaxed output swing requirements and high robustness

Nowadays, the so-called alter-globalization combines the various emancipation struggles that are being organized at a "glocal" level in order to change the world. Alter-globalization is not only as a social movement, but also a stream of critical thinking of Capitalist system. The values of the movement for another possible world point to the global justice in contemporary societies and the creation of a more equitable and sustainable world. In this utopian horizon, the emancipation of Humanity is considered to be the ultimate goal of social transformation. According to the global justice movement, the emancipation of the human being is only possible in an alternative society to neoliberalism where poor people are not opressed. In this new society, every individual will be autonomous and therefore able to make his or her own decisions according to his or her needs. In order to achieve a true global social emancipation, it is necessary a translation and recognition work between different knowledges and cultures
protesta, organització i acció col·lectiva.
Social responses to the 2001 crisis in Argentina marked a watershed
in mass mobilisations in the country in terms of new forms of protest, organisation
and collective action. Popular assemblies, caceroladas (pot-banging
protests), occupations of factories or unused spaces are some of the action
strategies that became commonplace from 2001 onwards. Ten years later, the
economic crisis in the Spanish State also marks a turning point in social mobilisation
in Spain, which reached its peak on 15 May 2011. “Lxs indignadxs”
(the outraged or indignant) reinstated some of the forms of protest seen in
Argentina, but also established new avenues of action and disobedience. Differences
in the social and political context conditioned the rise of movements
in Argentina related to neighbourhood and employment protests (picketers),
or to the monetary crisis (savers), while in Spain civic platforms arose in response
to social spending cuts in education, health, etc., or the housing crisis
(those affected by mortgages, evictions, etc.). In this article, we analyse two of the most significant experiences of social
mobilisation in the last decade based on an exploration of their similarities
and differences

Using Mobile Devices for Improving Learning Outcomes and Teachers’ Professionalization
Teaching in higher education is changing due to the influence of technology. More and more
technological tools are replacing old teaching methods and strategies. Thus, mobile devices are being
positioned as a key tool for new ways of understanding educational practices. The present paper
responds to a systematic review about the benefits that mobile devices have for university students’
learning. Using inclusion and exclusion criteria in theWeb of Science and Scopus databases, 16 articles
were selected to argue why Mobile learning (Mlearning) has become a modern innovative approach.
The results point to an improvement in students’ learning through Mlearning, factors that encourage
the use of mobile devices in universities have been identified, and e ective mobile applications in
improving teaching and learning processes have been presented. The inclusion of this methodology
requires a new role for teachers, whose characterization is also specified
First report of Desmiphora hirticollis (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) on Wigandia urens (Ruiz and Pavón) H.B.K. (Hydrophilaceae) in Mexico
Desmiphora hirticollis (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) was found in Oaxaca, Mexico, feeding in the stems of Wigandia urens (Ruiz and Pavón) H.B.K. (Hydrophilaceae), a new host record. Information about damage in the plant stems and some observations of the insect’s biology are provided
Study of the increase in bending stiffness on timber beams reinforced with composite materials
It is common to find structures that need to be reinforced due to deterioration or because the function of the building changes. The economic cost involved in these forms of interventions is considerable. Therefore, it is interesting to progress in the existing strengthening techniques and the study of new reinforcement systems. This paper analyses the behaviour of timber beams reinforced with carbon and basalt fiber composite materials. The main objective of this study is to test the stiffness increase produced by the carbon and basalt FRP on reinforced beams. The results show the stiffness increase produced by the different types of reinforcement
Efficient Hybrid Continuous-Time/Discrete-Time Cascade Modulators for Wideband Applications
This paper analyses the use of hybrid continuous-time/discrete-time cascade ΣΔ modulators for the implementation of power-efficient analog-to-digital converters in broadband wireless communication systems. Two alternative implementations of multi-rate cascade architectures are studied and compared with conventional single-rate continuous-time topologies, taking into account the impact of main circuit-level error mechanisms, namely: mismatch, finite dc gain and gain-bandwidth product. In all cases, closed-form design equations are derived for the nonideal in-band noise power of all ΣΔ modulators under study, providing analytical relationships between their system-level performance and the corresponding circuit-level error parameters. Theoretical predictions match simulation results, showing that the lowest performance degradation is obtained by a new kind of multi-rate hybrid ΣΔ modulator, in which the front-end (continuous-time) stage operates at a higher rate than the back-end (discrete-time) stages. As a case study, the design of a hybrid GmC/switched-capacitor fourth-order (two-stage, 4-bit) cascade ΣΔ modulator is discussed to illustrate the potential benefits of the presented approachMinisterio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2010-14825/MI
