GEOMETRIC ANALYSIS BY CONSTRUCTAL DESIGN OF STIFFENED STEEL PLATES UNDER BENDING WITH TRANSVERSE I-SHAPED OR T-SHAPED STIFFENERS

    Get PDF
Several stiffened plates arrangements subjected to bending were configured applying the Constructal Design Method (CDM) and solved by Finite Element Method (FEM), aiming through the Exhaustive Search (ES) technique analyze the influence of transverse I-Shaped or T-Shaped stiffeners in mechanical behavior. Considering a non-stiffened plate as reference and maintaining the total steel volume constant, a portion of the reference plate was deducted from its thickness, and transformed into stiffeners through the ???? volume fraction parameter, which represents the ratio between the steel volume of the stiffeners and the steel volume of the reference plate. Assuming ???? = 0.3, 25 plates with just I-Shaped stiffeners in longitudinal and transverse directions and 25 plates with I-Shaped stiffeners in longitudinal direction and T-Shaped stiffeners in transverse direction were proposed. The results showed that the plates with transverse T-Shaped stiffeners are more effective, reducing the maximum von Mises stress and maximum deflection, respectively, in up to more than 60% and 50% when compared with the plates with just I-Shaped stiffeners

Delayed Fluorescence by Triplet–Triplet Annihilation from Columnar Liquid Crystal Films

    Get PDF
Delayed fluorescence (DF) by triplet–triplet annihilation (TTA) is observed in solutions of a benzoperylene-imidoester mesogen that shows a hexagonal columnar mesophase at room temperature in the neat state. A similar benzoperylene-imide with a slightly smaller HOMO–LUMO gap, that also is hexagonal columnar liquid crystalline at room temperature, does not show DF in solution, and mixtures of the two mesogens show no DF in solution either, because of collisional quenching of the excited triplet states on the imidoester by the imide. In contrast, DF by TTA from the imide but not from the imidoester is observed in condensed films of such mixtures, even though neat films of either single material are not displaying DF. In contrast to the DF from the monomeric imidoester in solution, DF of the imide occurs from dimeric aggregates in the blend films, assisted by the imidoester. Thus, the close contact of intimately stacked molecules of the two different species in the columnar mesophase leads to a unique mesophase-assisted aggregate DF. This constitutes the first observation of DF by TTA from the columnar liquid crystalline state. If the imide is dispersed in films of polybromostyrene, which provides an external heavy-atom effect facilitating triplet formation, DF is also observed. Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) devices incorporating these liquid crystal molecules demonstrated high external quantum efficiency (EQE). On the basis of the literature and to the best of our knowledge, the EQE reported is the highest among nondoped solution-processed OLED devices using a columnar liquid crystal molecule as the emitting layer

Verification and Validation of a Methodology to Numerically Generate Waves Using Transient Discrete Data as Prescribed Velocity Boundary Condition

    Get PDF
This work presents a two-dimensional numerical analysis of a wave channel and a oscillating water column (OWC) device. The main goal is to validate a methodology which uses transient velocity data as a means to impose velocity boundary condition for the generation of numerical waves. To achieve this, a numerical wave channel was simulated using regular waves with the same parameters as those used in a laboratory experiment. First, these waves were imposed as prescribed velocity boundary condition and compared with the analytical solution; then, the OWC device was inserted into the computational domain, aiming to validate this methodology. For the numerical analysis, computational fluid dynamics ANSYS Fluent software was employed, and to tackle with water–air interaction, the nonlinear multiphase model volume of fluid (VOF) was applied. Although the results obtained through the use of discrete data as velocity boundary condition presented a little disparity; in general, they showed a good agreement with laboratory experiment results. Since many studies use regular waves, there is a lack of analysis with ocean waves realistic data; thus, the proposed methodology stands out for its capacity of using realistic sea state data in numerical simulations regarding wave energy converters (WECs)

    Get PDF

The Complex Puzzle of Interactions Among Functional Food, Gut Microbiota, and Colorectal Cancer

    Get PDF
Colorectal cancer exerts a strong influence on the epidemiological panorama worldwide, and it is directly correlated to etiologic factors that are substantiated by genetic and environmental elements. This complex mixture of factors also has a relationship involving the structural dependence and composition of the gut microbiome, leading to a dysbacteriosis process that may evolve to serious modifications in the intestinal lining, eventually causing the development of a neoplasm. The gastrointestinal tract presents defense strategies and immunological properties that interfere in intestinal permeability, inhibiting the bacterial translocation, thus maintaining the integrity of intestinal homeostasis. The modulation of the intestinal microbiome and the extinction of risk factors associated with intestinal balance losses, especially of environmental factors, make cell and defense alterations impossible. This modulation may be conducted by means of functional foods in the diet, especially soluble fibers, polyunsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants and prebiotics that signal immunomodulatory effects in the intestinal microbiota, with preventive and therapeutic action for colorectal cancer. In summary, this review focuses on the importance of dietary modulation of the intestinal microbiota as an instrument for dysbacteriosis and, consequently, for the prevention of colorectal cancer, suggesting anticarcinogenic, and antiangiogenic properties. Among the intestinal modulating agents considered here are functional foods, especially flaxseed, oat and soy, composing a Bioactive Food Compound

IMPACTO DA “MÃE DE LEITE ELETRÔNICA” NO DESEMPENHO ZOOTÉCNICO DE LEITÕES LACTENTES

    Get PDF
