A 13 de janeiro de 1745, o tabelião de Notas de Loulé, António Palermo da Ponte Farinha, desloca-se às casas de morada do sargento-mor Nuno Mascarenhas Pessanha, cavaleiro professo da Ordem de Cristo e reitor da irmandade de São Sebastião, onde se dirigiram também o mestre entalhador João Amado, morador na Fonte dos Canos, nos arredores de Loulé e três testemunhas. Aí é lida e assinada uma escritura de contrato, na qual se refere que o dito João Amado se compromete, pela quantia de 134$400 réis, a executar dez nichos de madeira na igreja de São Sebastião/de São Francisco. Maximum-likelihood estimation of specific differential phase and attenuation in rain

Precise estimation of propagation parameters in precipitation media is of interest to improve the performance of communications systems and in remote sensing applications. In this paper, we present maximum-likelihood estimators of specific attenuation and specific differential phase in rain. The model used for obtaining the cited estimators assumes coherent propagation, reflection symmetry of the medium, and Gaussian statistics of the scattering matrix measurements. No assumptions about the microphysical properties of the medium are needed. The performance of the estimators is evaluated through simulated data. Results show negligible estimators bias and variances close to Cramer–Rao bounds

National Strategy for River Restoration in Spain: A multidisciplinary approach.

A National Strategy for River Restoration is being implemented by the Spanish Ministry of Environmental Affairs, with the scientific assistance of the Universidad Politécnica of Madrid. Theoretical concepts from Fluvial Geomorphology and Ecology, together with Water Framework Directive principles and objectives, have been the basis for this Strategy, whose the main objective is to improve the ecological status of rivers, recovering their natural variability and dynamics

Conflict and cognitive control during sentence comprehension: recruitment of a frontal network during the processing of Spanish object-first sentences.

During sentence processing there is a preference to treat the first noun phrase found as the subject and agent, unless marked the other way. This preference would lead to a conflict in thematic role assignment when the syntactic structure conforms to a non-canonical object-before-subject pattern. Left perisylvian and fronto-parietal brain networks have been found to be engaged by increased computational demands during sentence comprehension, while event-reated brain potentials have been used to study the on-line manifestation of these demands. However, evidence regarding the spatiotemporal organization of brain networks in this domain is scarce. In the current study we used Magnetoencephalography to track spatio-temporally brain activity while Spanish speakers were reading subject- and object-first cleft sentences. Both kinds of sentences remained ambiguous between a subject-first or an object-first interpretation up to the appearance of the second argument. Results show the time-modulation of a frontal network at the disambiguation point of object-first sentences. Moreover, the time windows where these effects took place have been previously related to thematic role integration (300–500 ms) and to sentence reanalysis and resolution of conflicts during processing (beyond 500 ms post-stimulus). Molecular oxygen generation from the reaction of water cations with oxygen atoms

The oxywater cation (H2OO+), previously shown to form barrierlessly in the gas phase from water cations and atomic oxygen, is proposed here potentially to possess a 2A″ ← 4A″ excitation leading to the H2⋯O2+ complex. This complex could then easily decompose into molecular hydrogen and the molecular oxygen cation. The present quantum chemical study shows that the necessary electronic transition takes place in the range of 1.92 eV (645 nm), in the orange-red range of the visible and solar spectrum, and dissociation of the complex only requires 5.8 kcal/mol (0.25 eV). Such a process for the abiotic, gas phase formation of O2 would only need to be photocatalyzed by visible wavelength photons. Hence, such a process could produce O2 at the mesosphere/stratosphere boundary as climate change is driving more water into the upper atmosphere, in the comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko where surprisingly high levels of O2 have been observed, or at gas-surface (ice) interfaces

Estabilización de la base de un pavimento flexible con cenizas de bagazo y cáscaras de coco, Av. Alipio, Chorrillos – 2022

La presente tesis “Estabilización de la base de un pavimento flexible con cenizas de bagazo y cáscaras de coco, Av. Alipio, Chorrillos – 2022” fue desarrollada empleando una metodología de tipo aplicada y diseño experimental, realizando ensayos de laboratorio que permitieron conocer las propiedades físico-mecánicas del material granular y elaborando propuestas de diseño de pavimento flexible bajo la metodología AASHTO 93 con y sin la adición de cenizas en proporciones de volumen de 4.5%, 5.5% y 6.5% en la capa base. Se determino como dosificaciones óptimas la adición de 6.5% de cenizas de bagazo (CB) y 5.5% de cenizas de cascaras de coco (CCC), obteniendo mejoras en el factor CBR de hasta 107.2% con CB y 103.1% con CCC incluyendo una misma reducción de 9 cm en el espesor de la capa base de los diseños con adición óptima respecto al diseño patrón
