In this work we establish suffcient conditions to ensure that an entire spacelike graph immersed with constant mean curvature in a Lorentzian product space, whose Riemannian fiber has sectional curvature bounded from below, must be a trivial slice of the ambient space

Melting Line With Quantum Correction In A Melt-textured Yba2cu3o7-δ Sample

    Get PDF
The irreversibility line for a high quality melt-textured YBa2Cu3O7-δ sample was determined in two orientations of the field H relative to the sample c axis. In both orientations we obtain good fits using a melting equation with quantum correction to describe the Abrikosov-lattice melting. The angular-scaling rule for uniaxially anisotropic materials is verified, giving additional support for the melting hypothesis. Our results are similar to those found in the literature for very clean untwinned samples. We suggest that the Abrikosov-lattice melting is weakly affected by quenched disorder, at least in the relatively low fields (H≤50 kOe) and high temperatures (T/Tc>0.8) probed in this work. © 1995 The American Physical Society.51149383938

SINAES: UM ALERTA SOBRE A AUTOAVALIAÇÃO EM INSTITUIÇÕES DE ENSINO SUPERIOR - IES

    Get PDF

Gender-biased toys: A multimodal analysis of gender roles portrayed in children's dolls

    Get PDF
This paper discusses how toys reflect dominant gender discourses and enable children to enact these discourses through play. Specifically, we examine the Brazilian doll Bebê Surpresa, using Social Semiotics as conceptualized by Halliday (1985) and the Grammar of Visual Design developed by Kress and Van Leeuwen (2006) to understand how gender ideologies are conveyed through language and visual design. While the doll is marketed as a modern recreation of baby shower practices, our analysis suggests that it reinforces binary gender roles and their associated social functions, perpetuating gender stereotypes. By analyzing the design and discourse of Bebê Surpresa, we aim to contribute to a broader understanding of how gender ideologies are communicated through children's toys and play

Active photonic crystals based on surface acoustic waves

    Get PDF
An active photonic crystal (PC) based on the modulation of a one-dimensional cavity resonator by electrically-generated surface acoustic waves is described. The high nonthermal population of surface modes combined with the enhanced Brillouin scattering in the cavity increases the intensity of the scattered light to values comparable to the excitation intensity. This process is employed to switch and modulate light beams in PCs

Evaluation of SNMP-like protocol to manage a NoC emulation platform

International audience—The Networks-on-Chip(NoCs) are currently the most appropriate communication structure for many-core embedded systems. AnFPGA-based emulation platform can drastically reduce the time needed to evaluate a NoC, even if it is composed by tens or hundreds of distributed components. These components should be timely managed in order to execute an evaluation traffic scenario. There is a lack of standard protocols to drive FPGA-based NoC emulators. Such protocols could ease the integration of emulation components developed by different designers. In this paper, we evaluate a light version of SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) to manage an FPGA-based NoC emulation platform. The SNMP protocol and its related components are adapted to a hardware implementation. This facilitates the configuration of the emulation nodes without FPGA-resynthesis, as well as the extraction of emulation results. Some experiments highlight that this protocol is quite simple to implement and very efficient for a light resources overhead

Light induced electron spin resonance in a-Ge:H

    Get PDF
We report the observation of light-induced electron spin resonance (LESR) in amorphous hydrogenated germanium. Two new lines with zero crossings near g=2.01 and g=2.03 were detected and ascribed to electrons and holes in the conduction- and valence-band-tail states, respectively. The ratio between the LESR spin densities of both lines is approximately one, suggesting the absence of spin pairing, charge defect creation, or LESR of dangling bonds. The growth and decay spectra exhibit dispersive behavior with a dispersion parameter ∼0.5. The decay spectrum is best fit assuming bimolecular recombination. The LESR spin density depends weakly on the photogeneration rate as a sublinear power law

Foreign investment and the Brazilian real estate market

This article discusses the main aspects of the Brazilian real estate market in order to illustrate if it would be attractive for a typical American real estate investor to buy office‐building portfolios in Brazil. The article emphasizes: [i] — the regulatory frontiers, comparing investment securitization, using a typical American REIT structure, with the Brazilian solution, using the Fundo de Investimento Imobiliário — FII; [ii] — the investment quality attributes in the Brazilian market, using an office building prototype, and [iii] ‐ the comparison of [risk vs. yield] generated by an investment in the Brazilian market, using a FII, benchmarked against an existing REIT (OFFICE SUB‐SECTOR) in the USA market. We conclude that investing dollars exchanged for Reais [the Brazilian currency] in a FII with a triple A office‐building portfolio in the São Paulo marketplace will yield an annual income and a premium return above an American REIT investment. The highly aggressive scenario, along with the strong persistent exchange rate detachment to the IGP‐M variations, plus instabilities affecting the generation of income, and even if we adopt a 300‐point margin for the Brazil‐Risk level, demonstrates that an investment opportunity in the Brazilian market, in the segment we have analyzed, outperforms an equivalent investment in the American market.
