    Vacuum ambulance for transporting accessible patient

    The paramedic uses his / her potential, i.e. knowledge, experience, and abilities. They must also be able to handle medical equipment and medical devices, know how to use the forms of control and care. A person infected with a highly dangerous disease. A situation can happen. Even in Europe. How to solve patient transport, how to protect his health and how to protect others from infection - all this is dealt with by a special ambulance car, which was developed in Zlín, where the University of Zlín also cooperated. The ambulance is an integral part of the Integrated Rescue System in the event of an emergency with a high-risk infection. For example, it may be MERS, SARS or Ebola. Performance of activities concerning maintenance, care and, in particular, control of medical devices, the priority of the medical rescue service is the actual performance of the activity of the emergency medical service. Every paramedic should have an accurate idea of how to treat, care and care for a particular medical device and take care of him. The ambulance is used by health care professionals to transport patients with a risk of infection when transferred to their destination. Ambulances run emergency medical services, hospitals, the International Red Cross and many other health organizations. Special features are military or fire-fighting ambulances, special hygiene products indirectly accessible, ambulatory rooms from the driver's cab. The crew arrives at their destination where the test practitioner wears a full-body protective suit and other aids such as glasses or gloves. The transport must start according to hygienic requirements. After the transfer of a sick patient, the medical ambulance must go through disinfection. Rescuers accept the strictest hygiene regulations: they can use disposable protective equipment or two-stage respiratory protection. Crews consistently use the barrier approach, using gloves that are deployed in three layers. Protective suits, so-called overalls, loose disposable. Rescuers use respirators with an ABEK1 or higher filter and paper and carbon filtering. The rescue airways are thus protected in two stages, namely a mechanical filter that captures particles and a chemical filter. They had glasses to protect their eyes, and they also started using face shields. Upon arrival at the base, decontamination is in progress, mechanical cleaning, application of disinfectant solutions and course ozone disinfection of the room. The ambulance is disinfected after every transported patient. Rescuers are also undergoing thorough cleaning to dispose of disposable protective equipment such as bio-waste. At the exit base, ambulances that run with an infectious ambulance have their entrance and their premises, including sanitary facilities, to prevent contact with other employees.     Study of neutron response and n-gamma discrimination by charge comparison method for small liquid scintillation detector

    The study of the neutron response and n-gamma discrimination for small (18x26x8) mm3 liquid scintillator BC501A (Bicron) detector was carried out by digital charge comparison method. Three ranges of neutron energies were used: uniform distribution from 0.95 MeV to 1.23 MeV, continuous spectra of AmBe source and monoenergetic 16.2 MeV neutrons. The obtained results are compared with those for cylindrical liquid scintillation detector (40 mm diameter, 60 mm length) at the same energies of neutrons. A dramatic fall of the neutron response function at 400 keVee for small detector at 16.2 MeV neutron energy was measured. For (0.95 - 1.23) MeV neutron energy range such fall takes place at 260 keVee. The greater slope of neutron locus at (0.95 - 1.23) MeV neutron energy comparing to 16.2 MeV for both detectors is explained by longer tail of pulse from proton recoils within (0.1-1.23) MeV energy range.Comment: submitted to Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Phys.     Abstract Learning Frameworks for Synthesis

    We develop abstract learning frameworks (ALFs) for synthesis that embody the principles of CEGIS (counter-example based inductive synthesis) strategies that have become widely applicable in recent years. Our framework defines a general abstract framework of iterative learning, based on a hypothesis space that captures the synthesized objects, a sample space that forms the space on which induction is performed, and a concept space that abstractly defines the semantics of the learning process. We show that a variety of synthesis algorithms in current literature can be embedded in this general framework. While studying these embeddings, we also generalize some of the synthesis problems these instances are of, resulting in new ways of looking at synthesis problems using learning. We also investigate convergence issues for the general framework, and exhibit three recipes for convergence in finite time. The first two recipes generalize current techniques for convergence used by existing synthesis engines. The third technique is a more involved technique of which we know of no existing instantiation, and we instantiate it to concrete synthesis problems

    Consistency of data on soft photon production in hadronic interactions

    The glob model of Lichard and Van Hove and the modified soft annihilation model (MSAM) of Lichard and Thompson are used as a phenomenological tool for relating results from various experiments on soft photon production in high energy collisions. The total phenomenological expectation is composed of contributions from classical bremsstrahlung, the soft annihilation model and the glob model. The empirical excess above the background from hadronic decays at very small longitudinal momenta of photons is well reproduced, as well as that for transverse momenta pT >~ 10 MeV/c. Some data do not require the glob model and MSAM components in the phenomenological mixture, but do not exclude them. On the basis of consistency of all data with the total theoretical expectation we argue that the results of all experiments are mutually consistent. The models are unable to describe the excess of ultrasoft photons (pT <~ 10 MeV/c), seen by some, but not all, experiments. This may indicate an as yet unknown projectile-mass-dependent production mechanism. Possible relations of soft photon production to other phenomena are discussed. A simple-to-use, but physically equivalent version of the glob model is developed, which enables an easy check of presented results.Comment: 25 pages, RevTeX, epsf.sty, 12 embedded figure

    Diverse tick-borne microorganisms identified in free-living ungulates in Slovakia

    Background: Free-living ungulates are hosts of ixodid ticks and reservoirs of tick-borne microorganisms in central Europe and many regions around the world. Tissue samples and engorged ticks were obtained from roe deer, red deer, fallow deer, mouflon, and wild boar hunted in deciduous forests of south-western Slovakia. DNA isolated from these samples was screened for the presence of tick-borne microorganisms by PCR-based methods. Results: Ticks were found to infest all examined ungulate species. The principal infesting tick was Ixodes ricinus, identified on 90.4% of wildlife, and included all developmental stages. Larvae and nymphs of Haemaphysalis concinna were feeding on 9.6% of wildlife. Two specimens of Dermacentor reticulatus were also identified. Ungulates were positive for A. phagocytophilum and Theileria spp. Anaplasma phagocytophilum was found to infect 96.1% of cervids, 88.9% of mouflon, and 28.2% of wild boar, whereas Theileria spp. was detected only in cervids (94.6%). Importantly, a high rate of cervids (89%) showed mixed infections with both these microorganisms. In addition to A. phagocytophilum and Theileria spp., Rickettsia helvetica, R. monacensis, unidentified Rickettsia sp., Coxiella burnetii, "Candidatus Neoehrlichia mikurensis", Borrelia burgdorferi (s.l.) and Babesia venatorum were identified in engorged I. ricinus. Furthermore, A. phagocytophilum, Babesia spp. and Theileria spp. were detected in engorged H. concinna. Analysis of 16S rRNA and groEL gene sequences revealed the presence of five and two A. phagocytophilum variants, respectively, among which sequences identified in wild boar showed identity to the sequence of the causative agent of human granulocytic anaplasmosis (HGA). Phylogenetic analysis of Theileria 18S rRNA gene sequences amplified from cervids and engorged I. ricinus ticks segregated jointly with sequences of T. capreoli isolates into a moderately supported monophyletic clade. Conclusions: The findings indicate that free-living ungulates are reservoirs for A. phagocytophilum and Theileria spp. and engorged ixodid ticks attached to ungulates are good sentinels for the presence of agents of public and veterinary concern. Further analyses of the A. phagocytophilum genetic variants and Theileria species and their associations with vector ticks and free-living ungulates are required.Fil: Kazimírová, Mária.     Deuteron frozen spin polarized target for nd experiements at the VdG accelerator of Charles University

    A frozen spin polarized deuteron target cooled by the 3He/4He dilution refrigerator is described. Fully deuterated 1,2-propanediol was used as a target material. Deuteron vector polarization about 40% was obtained for the target in the shape of a cylinder of 2 cm diameter and 6 cm length. The target is intended for a study of 3N interactions at the polarized neutron beam generated by the Van de Graaff accelerator at the Charles University in Prague

    Mosaic maternal ancestry in the Great Lakes region of East Africa

    The Great Lakes lie within a region of East Africa with very high human genetic diversity, home of many ethno-linguistic groups usually assumed to be the product of a small number of major dispersals. However, our knowledge of these dispersals relies primarily on the inferences of historical, linguistics and oral traditions, with attempts to match up the archaeological evidence where possible. This is an obvious area to which archaeogenetics can contribute, yet Uganda, at the heart of these developments, has not been studied for mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation. Here, we compare mtDNA lineages at this putative genetic crossroads across 409 representatives of the major language groups: Bantu speakers and Eastern and Western Nilotic speakers. We show that Uganda harbours one of the highest mtDNA diversities within and between linguistic groups, with the various groups significantly differentiated from each other. Despite an inferred linguistic origin in South Sudan, the data from the two Nilotic-speaking groups point to a much more complex history, involving not only possible dispersals from Sudan and the Horn but also large-scale assimilation of autochthonous lineages within East Africa and even Uganda itself. The Eastern Nilotic group also carries signals characteristic of West-Central Africa, primarily due to Bantu influence, whereas a much stronger signal in the Western Nilotic group suggests direct West-Central African ancestry. Bantu speakers share lineages with both Nilotic groups, and also harbour East African lineages not found in Western Nilotic speakers, likely due to assimilating indigenous populations since arriving in the region ~3000 years ago

    Contributions to the phylogeny of Ixodes (Pholeoixodes) canisuga, I. (Ph.) kaiseri, I. (Ph.) hexagonus and a simple pictorial key for the identification of their females

    Background: In Europe, hard ticks of the subgenus Pholeoixodes (Ixodidae: Ixodes) are usually associated with burrow-dwelling mammals and terrestrial birds. Reports of Pholeoixodes spp. from carnivores are frequently contradictory, and their identification is not based on key diagnostic characters. Therefore, the aims of the present study were to identify ticks collected from dogs, foxes and badgers in several European countries, and to reassess their systematic status with molecular analyses using two mitochondrial markers. Results: Between 2003 and 2017, 144 Pholeoixodes spp. ticks were collected in nine European countries. From accurate descriptions and comparison with type-materials, a simple illustrated identification key was compiled for adult females, by focusing on the shape of the anterior surface of basis capituli. Based on this key, 71 female ticks were identified as I. canisuga, 21 as I. kaiseri and 21 as I. hexagonus. DNA was extracted from these 113 female ticks, and from further 31 specimens. Fragments of two mitochondrial genes, cox1 (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1) and 16S rRNA, were amplified and sequenced. Ixodes kaiseri had nine unique cox1 haplotypes, which showed 99.2-100% sequence identity, whereas I. canisuga and I. hexagonus had eleven and five cox1 haplotypes, respectively, with 99.5-100% sequence identity. The distribution of cox1 haplotypes reflected a geographical pattern. Pholeoixodes spp. ticks had fewer 16S rRNA haplotypes, with a lower degree of intraspecific divergence (99.5-100% sequence identity) and no geographical clustering. Phylogenetic analyses were in agreement with morphology: I. kaiseri and I. hexagonus (with the similar shape of the anterior surface of basis capituli) were genetically more closely related to each other than to I. canisuga. Phylogenetic analyses also showed that the subgenus Eschatocephalus (bat ticks) clustered within the subgenus Pholeoixodes. Conclusions: A simple, illustrated identification key is provided for female Pholeoixodes ticks of carnivores (including I. hexagonus and I. rugicollis) to prevent future misidentification of these species. It is also shown that I. kaiseri is more widespread in Europe than previously thought. Phylogenetic analyses suggest that the subgenus Pholeoixodes is not monophyletic: either the subgenus Eschatocephalus should be included in Pholeoixodes, or the latter subgenus should be divided, which is a task for future studies

    The Roadmap to the POEMMA mission

    The Probe Of Extreme Multi-Messenger Astrophysics (POEMMA) is designed to observe ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) and cosmic neutrinos from space with sensitivity over the full celestial sky. Developed as a NASA Astrophysics Probe-class mission, POEMMA consists of two identical telescopes orbiting the Earth in a loose formation designed to observe extensive air showers (EAS) via air fluorescence and Cherenkov emissions. UHECRs and UHE neutrinos above 20 EeV are observed with the stereo fluorescence technique, while tau neutrinos above 20 PeV are observed via the optical Cherenkov signals produced by up-going EAS generated by the decay of Earth-emerging tau-leptons. The POEMMA satellites are designed to quickly re-orientate to follow up transient cosmic neutrino candidate sources and obtain unparalleled neutrino flux sensitivity. Both observation techniques and the instrument design are being validated by current and upcoming missions, such as Mini-EUSO and EUSO-SPB as part of the JEM-EUSO program, and the Terzina instrument onboard the NUSES SmallSat mission.
