Stagnation region gas film cooling: Spanwise angled injection from multiple rows of holes
The stagnation region of a cylinder in a cross flow was used in experiments conducted with both a single row and multiple rows of spanwise angled (25 deg) coolant holes for a range of the coolant blowing ratio with a freestream to wall temperature ratio approximately equal to 1.7 and R(eD) = 90,000. Data from local heat flux measurements are presented for injection from a single row located at 5 deg, 22.9 deg, 40.8 deg, 58.7 deg from stagnation using a hole spacing ratio of S/d(o) = 5 and 10. Three multiple row configurations were also investigated. Data are presented for a uniform blowing distribution and for a nonuniform blowing distribution simulating a plenum supply. The data for local Stanton Number reduction demonstrated a lack of lateral spreading by the coolant jets. Heat flux levels larger than those without film cooling were observed directly behind the coolant holes as the blowing ratio exceeded a particular value. The data were spanwise averaged to illustrate the influence of injection location, blowing ratio and hole spacing. The large values of blowing ratio for the blowing distribution simulating a plenum supply resulted in heat flux levels behind the holes in excess of the values without film cooling. An increase in freestream turbulence intensity from 4.4 to 9.5 percent had a negligible effect on the film cooling performance
ECE Teachers' Perceptions of Evidence-Based PD and Intensive Coaching

Hayes Graduate Research Forum)The instruction children receive from their early childcare and education (ECE) teachers through close relationships heavily impacts child learning and development, including emotional and social well-being, adaption to formal schooling, academic achievement, and overall life course trajectories (Brebner et al., 2015; Denham, 2006; Owen et al., 2008; Shonkoff & Phillips, 2000). Unfortunately, the training that influences these meaningful learning interactions is lacking. Many ECE teachers are without the proper educational training or professional development (PD) needed to foster these formative learning environments. Previous research has established coaching as a key factor of PD that enhances teachers' knowledge, skill, and education level, as well as assists with putting knowledge into practice (Kraft et al., 2018; Whitebook et al., 2018). These professional partnerships are most effective when strong, supportive relationships are formed between both actors (Artman-Meeker et al., 2015). To that effect, the purpose of this study was to examine ECE teachers' perceptions of a specialized PD training that combined evidence-based online modules with intensive coaching support. Distinguishing teachers' experiences of practice-based coaching can allow for the identification of key factors that support ECE teachers' learning and influence the instruction children receive within the early care setting. This study found that teachers held positive perceptions of intensive coaching after completing an online, evidenced-based professional development training. Our results offer suggestions for future research regarding the impact of coaching on teachers' professional development and educational influence on the growth and development of children.No embarg
Proof-of-principle of a new geometry for sampling calorimetry using inorganic scintillator plates
A novel geometry for a sampling calorimeter employing inorganic scintillators
as an active medium is presented. To overcome the mechanical challenges of
construction, an innovative light collection geometry has been pioneered, that
minimises the complexity of construction. First test results are presented,
demonstrating a successful signal extraction. The geometry consists of a
sampling calorimeter with passive absorber layers interleaved with layers of an
active medium made of inorganic scintillating crystals. Wavelength-shifting
(WLS) fibres run along the four long, chamfered edges of the stack,
transporting the light to photodetectors at the rear. To maximise the amount of
scintillation light reaching the WLS fibres, the scintillator chamfers are
depolished. It is shown herein that this concept is working for cerium fluoride
(CeF) as a scintillator. Coupled to it, several different types of
materials have been tested as WLS medium. In particular, materials that might
be sufficiently resistant to the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider
radiation environment, such as cerium-doped Lutetium-Yttrium Orthosilicate
(LYSO) and cerium-doped quartz, are compared to conventional plastic WLS
fibres. Finally, an outlook is presented on the possible optimisation of the
different components, and the construction and commissioning of a full

Cognitive and attitudinal impacts of a university AIDS course: interdisciplinary education as a public health intervention.
This paper describes an interdisciplinary, variable credit-bearing university course on acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) that enrolled 429 students. Pre- and post-course questionnaries were used to assess knowledge and attitudes relative to AIDS and these were compared to National Health Interview Survey findings. Considerable cognitive and attitudinal changes occurred over the course period. University courses, taught annually, were found to be an efficient mechanism for educating large numbers of future community leaders and professionals about AID

Protons in near earth orbit
The proton spectrum in the kinetic energy range 0.1 to 200 GeV was measured
by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) during space shuttle flight STS-91 at
an altitude of 380 km. Above the geomagnetic cutoff the observed spectrum is
parameterized by a power law. Below the geomagnetic cutoff a substantial second
spectrum was observed concentrated at equatorial latitudes with a flux ~ 70
m^-2 sec^-1 sr^-1. Most of these second spectrum protons follow a complicated
trajectory and originate from a restricted geographic region.Comment: 19 pages, Latex, 7 .eps figure
Search for antihelium in cosmic rays
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) was flown on the space shuttle
Discovery during flight STS-91 in a 51.7 degree orbit at altitudes between 320
and 390 km. A total of 2.86 * 10^6 helium nuclei were observed in the rigidity
range 1 to 140 GV. No antihelium nuclei were detected at any rigidity. An upper
limit on the flux ratio of antihelium to helium of < 1.1 * 10^-6 is obtained.Comment: 18 pages, Latex, 9 .eps figure
Search for Charginos with a Small Mass Difference with the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle at \sqrt{s} = 189 GeV
A search for charginos nearly mass-degenerate with the lightest
supersymmetric particle is performed using the 176 pb^-1 of data collected at
189 GeV in 1998 with the L3 detector. Mass differences between the chargino and
the lightest supersymmetric particle below 4 GeV are considered. The presence
of a high transverse momentum photon is required to single out the signal from
the photon-photon interaction background. No evidence for charginos is found
and upper limits on the cross section for chargino pair production are set. For
the first time, in the case of heavy scalar leptons, chargino mass limits are
obtained for any \tilde{\chi}^{+-}_1 - \tilde{\chi}^0_1 mass difference
A Study of Cosmic Ray Secondaries Induced by the Mir Space Station Using AMS-01
The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is a high energy particle physics
experiment that will study cosmic rays in the to range and will be installed on the International Space Station
(ISS) for at least 3 years. A first version of AMS-02, AMS-01, flew aboard the
space shuttle \emph{Discovery} from June 2 to June 12, 1998, and collected
cosmic ray triggers. Part of the \emph{Mir} space station was within the
AMS-01 field of view during the four day \emph{Mir} docking phase of this
flight. We have reconstructed an image of this part of the \emph{Mir} space
station using secondary and emissions from primary cosmic rays
interacting with \emph{Mir}. This is the first time this reconstruction was
performed in AMS-01, and it is important for understanding potential

The two-photon width of the meson has been
measured with the L3 detector at LEP. The is studied in the decay

using an integrated luminosity of 140 pb at GeV and
of 52 pb at GeV. The result is
(BR) keV. The dependence of the cross section is studied for
GeV. It is found to be better described by a Vector Meson
Dominance model form factor with a J-pole than with a -pole. In addition,
a signal of events is observed at the mass. Upper limits
