Low Voltage Control for the Liquid Argon Hadronic End-Cap Calorimeter of ATLAS
At the ATLAS detector a SCADA system surveys and controls the sub- detectors. The link is realized by PVSS2 software and a CanBus hardware system. The low voltages for the Hadronic Endcaps of the liquid argon calorimeter are produced by DC/DC-converters in the power boxes and split into 320 channels corresponding to the pre- amplifier and summing boards in the cryostat. Six units of a prototype distribution board are currently under test. Each of it contains 2 ELMBs as CanBus interface, a FPGA of type QL3012 for digital control and 30 low voltage regulators for the individual fine adjustments of the outputs
Design and implementation of the Front End Board for the readout of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters
The ATLAS detector has been designed for operation at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. ATLAS includes a complex system of liquid argon calorimeters. The electronics for amplifying, shaping, sampling, pipelining, and digitizing the calorimeter signals is implemented on the Front End Boards (FEBs). This paper describes the design, implementation and production of the FEBs and presents measurement results from testing performed at several stages during the production process
ATLAS liquid argon calorimeter front end electronics
The ATLAS detector has been designed for operation at CERN's Large Hadron Collider. ATLAS includes a complex system of liquid argon calorimeters. This paper describes the architecture and implementation of the system of custom front end electronics developed for the readout of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters
Construction, assembly and testing of the ATLAS hadronic end-cap calorimeter
The construction and assembly of the four wheels of the ATLAS hadronic end-cap calorimeter and their insertion into the two end-cap cryostats are described. The results of the qualification tests prior to installation of the two cryostats in the ATLAS experimental cavern are reviewed
Calibration of the ATLAS Hadronic End-Cap Calorimeter
The calibration chain of the HEC is described. A model based on detailed studies of all individual parts is presented. The characteristics of the steering and data taking system for both the test-beam runs and for the acceptance tests of the HEC modules is summarized. The calibration and signal reconstruction procedure is developed and results of the test-beam data are presented
Radiation qualification of the front-end electronics for the readout of the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters
The ATLAS detector has been built to study the reactions produced by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). ATLAS includes a system of liquid argon calorimeters for energy measurements. The electronics for amplifying, shaping, sampling, pipelining, and digitizing the calorimeter signals is implemented on a set of front-end electronic boards. The front-end boards are installed in crates mounted between the calorimeters, where they will be subjected to significant levels of radiation during LHC operation. As a result, all components used on the front-end boards had to be subjected to an extensive set of radiation qualification tests. This paper describes radiation-tolerant designs, radiation testing, and radiation qualification of the front-end readout sy stem for the ATLAS liquid argon calorimeters
