Diseño, simulación, fabricación y caracterización de una turbina tipo Pelton de 5 kW.

Se presenta la metodología empleada para la construcción de un microgenerador hidráulico de 5 kW con turbina tipo Pelton. Para unas condiciones de operación (cabeza hidráulica y caudal) y a partir de una base teóricoexperimental, se modelaron los componentes con ayuda de herramientas computacionales tipo CAD (Diseño asistido por computador), CAE (Ingeniería asistida por computador) y CFD (Análisis computacional fluidodinámico). Posteriormente, se empleó un software CAM (Manufactura asistida por computador) y procesos de fundición para la fabricación de los componentes del microgenerador. Por último, y con el fin de validar el diseño, se realizó la caracterización del microgenerador mediante pruebas en el Laboratorio del Grupo de Investigación de Energía Alternativa de la Universidad de Antioquia. A partir de las pruebas realizadas, fue posible cuantificar la eficiencia de la turbina Pelton, encontrar la relación óptima entre la apertura del inyector y la potencia generada, la velocidad óptima de operación, la eficiencia global del microgenerador y las condiciones hidráulicas en las cuales el microgenerador puede ser utilizado, brindando la mayor eficiencia de generación de energía eléctrica

Living and working conditions of peasant farmers and their families in Marinilla, Antioquia, Colombia, 2011

ABSTRACT: To describe the socio-economic, health, hygienic, sanitary and working conditions of farming families living in the municipality of Marinilla, Antioquia. Methodology: a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted with a nonrandom sample of 83 families. The goal was reached by applying a questionnaire and observing the hygienic and sanitary conditions of the houses in nine villages. Results: the type of agriculture observed was family farming. The farming activities were performed in the participants’ property and did not generate enough income to survive (73.8%). Similarly, these activities were performed using hand tools (99%) and the only equipment available were fumigation pumps (79.1 %). Although agriculture has covered the life and generational cycles of the family members, only 17.7% of them want their children to carry on with the agricultural tradition. Work was performed in shifts of 8 or more hours, 6 or 7 days a week, with no holidays, with an accident rate of 26.2%, with continuous use of pesticides of moderate to high hazard for 25.9 years on average and with low (3.9%) social protection covering incapacity, disability, old age and death. However, this study identified increases in land ownership (65%), affiliation to the subsidized health system (96.3%), level of literacy -although the level of technical or professional higher education was 3.2%- and access to the communal water supply (96.4%). Conclusion: agriculture continues to play a key role in the Marinilla country life, and there is little hope for the coming generations; regional leaders must act effectively if they want to preserve the agricultural district of Eastern Antioquia.RESUMEN: Describir las condiciones socioeconómicas, de salud, higiénico sanitarias y de trabajo en familias agricultoras del municipio de Marinilla-Antioquia. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo transversal de una muestra no probabilística de 83 familias. El objetivo se logró mediante la aplicación de un cuestionario y la observación de las condiciones higiénico– sanitarias de las viviendas en nueve veredas. Resultados: La agricultura fue de tipo familiar, con auto-explotación del predio que no generó ingresos suficientes para subsistir (73,8%), por uso de herramientas manuales (99%) y porque el único equipo del que disponían (79,1%) fue el de fumigación. Aunque ha cubierto el ciclo vital y generacional de sus integrantes, solo 17,7% desea que sus hijos continúen la tradición agrícola. Para la mayoría el trabajo se realizó en jornadas de 8 o más horas, 6 o 7 días por semana, sin vacaciones, con accidentalidad del 26,2%, uso continuo de plaguicidas de moderada y alta peligrosidad por 25,9 años en promedio y con escasa (3,9%) protección social para incapacidad, invalidez, vejez y muerte. Sin embargo se identificó un aumento de propiedad sobre la tierra (65%), de la afiliación al sistema subsidiado de salud (96,3%), del nivel de alfabetismo aunque la formación superior técnica o profesional fue del 3,2% y de acceso al sistema de abastecimiento de agua comunal (96,4%). Conclusión: la agricultura continúa determinando la vida del campo en Marinilla y es poco esperanzadora para las futuras generaciones, los líderes regionales deberán actuar efectivamente si se quiere preservar el distrito Agrario del Oriente Antioqueño

This article is a product of the development of the First International Entrepreneurship Fair "A meeting of ideas for sustainable development", promoted through inter-institutional agreements between the institutions IU Digital de Antioquia, Incubadora de Empresas Genesis for Colombia, the Chamber of Commerce of Medellin for Antioquia and Universidad Veracruzana Mexico, with the objective of promoting the development of entrepreneurship, also known as the fundamental pillar of the entrepreneurial culture established by the four institutions. Isolation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells and evaluation of their osteogenic potential

Las células madre mesenquimatosas de médula ósea humana (abreviadas hBMSCs) constituyen una fuente de células auto-renovables con alto potencial de diferenciación, comúnmente aisladas a partir de los aspirados medulares en huesos largos. Su diferenciación hacia el linaje osteogénico, por ejemplo, ha sido ampliamente utilizada para la evaluación biológica de biomateriales o matrices con aplicaciones en la ingeniería de tejidos óseos. El objetivo de este trabajo consistió en aislar hBMSCs a partir de la cabeza femoral de pacientes sometidos a artroplastia total de cadera, así como evaluar su potencial osteogénico. Brevemente, se extrajo el hueso esponjoso y se disgregó mecánicamente; las células desprendidas se cultivaron y las células no adherentes se eliminaron luego de 4 días. El potencial osteogénico se evaluó en la quinta generación de cultivo, mediante ensayos de diferenciación a 14 y 20 días donde se compararon cultivos con y sin suplementos osteogénicos. La evaluación se realizó mediante tinción con Alizarina Roja y la cuantificación de los niveles de expresión génica de los marcadores osteogénicos colágeno tipo I, osteonectinca y sialoprotiena ósea mediante RT-PCR en tiempo real. Las hBMSCs obtenidas presentaron un fenotipo no-diferenciado estable, así como la capacidad de mineralizar la matriz extracelular y expresar un fenotipo similar al osteoblasto durante la inducción osteogénica. Los tres marcadores evaluados se sobre-expresaron en los cultivos en condiciones osteogénicas, y se encontró que cambios hasta de 2X en sus niveles de expresión son relevantes para el desarrollo del proceso de diferenciación. El modelo de hBMSCS presentado podría ser utilizado para la evaluación in vitro de la osteoinductividad de diferentes biomateriales, moléculas bioactivas o matrices para ingeniería de tejidos.Human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (hBMSCs) comprise a cell population capable of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation commonly isolated from bone marrow aspirates of large bones. Their osteogenic potential has been extensively exploited for the biological evaluation of scaffolds or biomaterials with applications in bone tissue engineering. This work aimed to isolate hBMSCs from femoral heads of patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty and to evaluate their osteogenic potential. Briefly, the trabecular bone was extracted and mechanically disaggregated; the released cells were cultured and non-adherent cells were removed after 4 days. The osteogenic potential was evaluated at the fifth passage after 14 and 20 days of induction, comparing cultures with and without osteogenic supplements, via Alizarin red staining and the quantification of the gene expression levels of the osteogenic markers collagen type I, osteonectin and bone sialoprotein through real-time RT-PCR. The obtained hBMSCs presented a stable undifferentiated phenotype after prolonged cell culture, matrix mineralization capabilities and expression of osteoblast phenotype upon osteogenic induction. The three markers were up-regulated in cultures under osteogenic conditions and 2 fold differences in their expression levels were found to be significant for the onset of the differentiation process. The obtained hBMSCs may have applications on the in vitro evaluation of the osteoinductivity of different biomaterials, bioactive molecules or tissue engineering scaffolds

Alternativas para el desarrollo sostenible del turismo pospandemia en los municipios de Apartadó, Arboletes y Necoclí del Urabá antioqueño colombiano

The article is the result of a research work whose objective was to design alternatives for the sustainable development of the post-pandemic tourism sector in the municipalities of Apartadó, Arboletes and Necoclí of the Urabá subregion of Colombian Antioquia. In methodological terms, it was proposed as mixed research with an analytical-descriptive character, which combines documentary sources of diverse nature, among them a survey to 203 tourist operators of the subregion to which a model under factorial analysis of principal coefficients (PCA) was applied. Among the most significant results is that the municipalities have an important opportunity to consolidate themselves as sustainable tourist destinations due to the natural wealth of the territory and its privileged geographic position. However, the sustainable use of resources must be ensured in order to convert them into a source of material wealth while at the same time recovering and conserving them for the enjoyment of future generations.El artículo es resultado de un trabajo de investigación que se planteó como objetivo diseñar alternativas para el desarrollo sostenible del sector turístico pospandemia en los municipios de Apartadó, Arboletes y Necoclí, ubicados en la subregión del Urabá antioqueño colombiano. Introducción: En el Municipio de El Cairo Valle se reportó un brote de Tifus Murino, el cual habitualmente no se diagnostica en la región.Métodos: Se presenta una serie de casos obtenidos del Sitema de Vigilancia Epidemiológica del Municipio de El Cairo, administrado por el Hospital Municipal. Resultados: Se reportan 34 casos nuevos de Tifus Murino, que como características especiales fueron predominantemente femeninos, y población adulta. Conclusión: El brote fue controlado con la oportuna intervención del Comité de Vigilancia Epidemiológica del Municipio y coordinado por diferentes instituciones.AbstractIntroduction: El Cairo is a town in Valle, Murine Typhus is not ommonly diagnosed, a shot was reported in this region by information systems.Methods: Some cases have been taken from the Municipal Epidemiological Vigilance System in El Cairo, Valley which is administered by the Local Hospital Results: Thirty- four new cases of Murine Typhus were reported having all of them a predominant characteristic; they were found in female and adult population.Conclusion: The outbreak was controlled as a result of the appropiate intervention from the Municipal Epidemiological Vigilance Committee and the coordinated work from some institutions.Key words: Typhus Endemic Flea - Borne; Epidemiologic Surveillance; Zoonoses; Ectoparasitic Infestation

Inter-acciones: apuestas regionales de la investigación en comunicación

Transformación social, desarrollo y gestión de la comunicación en investigación; Educación y comunicación en procesos de transformación cultural; y Medios, convergencia y cibercultura. Además, responde a la pregunta: ¿qué líneas aborda la investigación en Comunicación Social desde la modalidad virtual y a distancia de UNIMINUTO? Lo anterior, con el objetivo de acoplar la investigación básica y aplicada desde el nivel de pregrado, en atención a los retos que afronta la formación del nuevo comunicador social con respecto al componente de investigación e innovación desde los semilleros de investigación; además, en consideración a que los semilleros son un espacio institucional para el fomento de la cultura investigativa institucional y de programas, propiciar la interacción entre la comunidad académica con miras al fortalecimiento de la excelencia académica, el desarrollo social y el progreso científico de la comunidad, así como la generación de la capacidad de trabajo en grupo, la interdisciplinariedad y el establecimiento de redes de investigación
