Accelerated amyloid angiopathy and related vascular alterations in a mixed murine model of Alzheimer´s disease and type two diabetes
Background: While aging is the main risk factor for Alzheimer´s disease (AD), emerging evidence suggests that
metabolic alterations such as type 2 diabetes (T2D) are also major contributors. Indeed, several studies have described
a close relationship between AD and T2D with clinical evidence showing that both diseases coexist. A hallmark pathological
event in AD is amyloid-β (Aβ) deposition in the brain as either amyloid plaques or around leptomeningeal and
cortical arterioles, thus constituting cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). CAA is observed in 85–95% of autopsy cases
with AD and it contributes to AD pathology by limiting perivascular drainage of Aβ.
Methods: To further explore these alterations when AD and T2D coexist, we have used in vivo multiphoton microscopy
to analyze over time the Aβ deposition in the form of plaques and CAA in a relevant model of AD (APPswe/
PS1dE9) combined with T2D (db/db). We have simultaneously assessed the effects of high-fat diet-induced prediabetes
in AD mice. Since both plaques and CAA are implicated in oxidative-stress mediated vascular damage in the brain,
as well as in the activation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP), we have also analyzed oxidative stress by Amplex Red
oxidation, MMP activity by DQ
™ Gelatin, and vascular functionality.
Results: We found that prediabetes accelerates amyloid plaque and CAA deposition, suggesting that initial metabolic
alterations may directly affect AD pathology. T2D significantly affects vascular pathology and CAA deposition,
which is increased in AD-T2D mice, suggesting that T2D favors vascular accumulation of Aβ. Moreover, T2D synergistically
contributes to increase CAA mediated oxidative stress and MMP activation, affecting red blood cell velocity.
Conclusions: Our data support the cross-talk between metabolic disease and Aβ deposition that affects vascular
integrity, ultimately contributing to AD pathology and related functional changes in the brain microvasculature.University of Cadiz Predoctoral FellowshipEuropean CommissionEuropean Commission Joint Research Centre GA 847749Programa Estatal de Generacion de Conocimiento y Fortalecimiento Cientifico y Tecnologico del Sistema de I + D + i y del Programa Estatal de I + D +i Orientada a los Retos de la Sociedad, del Plan Estatal de Investigacion Cientifica y Tecnica y de Innovaci PID2020-115499RB-I00/AEIAgencia Estatal de Investigacion (AEI) BFU 2016-75038-REuropean CommissionSpanish Government

Coordination Of Teachers In New Undergraduate Degrees Adapted To European Higher Education Area
The introduction of new undergraduate degrees adapted to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) requires a coordinated effort by teachers, because the different subjects are based on a new methodology of teaching and learning. The Social Sciences School of Cuenca offers degrees in Business Administration, Law and Labor Sciences. The progressive adaptation of the undergraduate degrees at the University of Castilla-La Mancha has culminated with the introduction, in the academic year 2009-2010, of the Business Administration Degree and, beginning in academic year 2010-2011, of the Degrees in Law and in Industrial Relations and Human Resource Development, once they have all been verified by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA). This paper addresses opportunities for coordination among teachers that occur in the implementation of new degree of Law and Business Administration, through the joint work of teachers in different aspects of competency-based education. After the first course of the new degrees, it must articulate all coordination tools that allow teachers to conduct their work effectively and efficiently, with the aim of providing the best possible service to students. The synergies arising from this deployment will allow better planning tools in the implementation of the following degrees
alumnas y alumnos cursando esos grados.Androcentrism in language has been considered a symbolic way of
violence against women because of its capacity to modulate our mental diagram.
The University of Seville, committed to gender equality, has incorporated some
initiatives to eradicate sexist language, although this study stand up the current use of
sexist language in the documents addressed to the university community.
Therefore, we are going to analyze the Degree leaflet´s language used by the Hispalense
from a gender perspective.
After analyzing eighty-three leaflets (from five areas of knowledge), they were
categorized according to their greater or lesser commitment to inclusive language. Then,
each of these areas was compared with the percentage of registered students
disaggregated by sex.
It’s possible to conclude that the important influence exerted by the Degree leaflet
which do not care about inclusive language on inequality, more or less significant, in
the number of women and men attending each Degree offer

Influence of nanoemulsion/gum ratio on droplet size distribution, rheology and physical stability of nanoemulgels containing inulin and omega-3 fatty acids
Background: New consumer habits are forcing the food industry to develop new and healthy products. In response to this tendency, in this investigation, we obtained nanoemulgels by microfluidization containing inulin fibre and omega-3 fatty acids. First, the influence of the number of microfluidization cycles on the physical properties of the nanoemulsions was studied. Subsequently, an advanced-performance xanthan gum was added to the nanoemulsion in different nanoemulsion/xanthan ratios (1:1, 2:1, 3:1, 4:1, 1:2, and 1:3). Results: Laser diffraction, multiple light scattering, and rheology techniques were used to characterize nanoemulsions and the corresponding nanoemulgels. The nanoemulsion with the lowest Sauter mean diameter (138 nm) and the longest physical stability was obtained after three passes through a microfluidization device at a fixed pressure of 103 421 kPa. Thus, these processing conditions were always used to obtain the nanoemulsion; these were subsequently mixed with a xanthan gum solution to produce nanoemulgels that showed weak gel-like viscoelastic and shear-thinning flow behaviours. A decrease in the nanoemulsion/xanthan ratio (i.e. by an increase in the content of xanthan gum in the nanoemulgel) increased the viscoelastic moduli and the zero shear viscosity values. A rise in the droplet size was observed with aging time, probably due to flocculation. The nanoemulsion/xanthan gum mass ratio of 1:3 yielded the most stable nanoemulgel. Conclusions: This work is a contribution to the development of functional foods. It has been demonstrated that it is possible to obtain a stable nanoemulgel-based food matrix containing fibre and omega-3 fatty acids. © 2022 The Authors. Inter-rater and intra-rater reliability of the extended TUG test in elderly participants
Background: To analyse the reliability, variance and execution time of the Extended Timed Up and Go (Extended
TUG) test in three age groups of elderly participants (G1: 55–64 years; G2: 65–74 years; G3: 75–85 years).
Methods: An analytical cross-sectional study of 114 recruited participants (63 women) of average age 70.17 (± 7.3) years
was undertaken. Each participant performed the Extended TUG three consecutive times, with a rest break between tests of
120 s. Both the intragroup and intergroup reliability of the measurements in the Extended TUG were analysed.
Results: The reliability of the Extended TUG test is excellent for the first and second decades but drops down to good for
the third decade. Specifically, intragroup reliability ranged from 0.784 for G3 to 0.977 for G1 (G2 = 0.858). Intergroup reliability,
compared with intragroup reliability, was slightly lower, ranging between 0.779 for G3 and 0.972 for G1 (G2 = 0.853).
Conclusion: The reliability of the Extended TUG test progressively decreases with increasing age, being excellent for the
younger age groups and good for the oldest age group
Image restoration a comparative study of some methods applied to color images
The present work introduces five different methods to deal with digital image restoration. Particularly deconvolution by Richardson-Lucy method, Wiener filter, deconvolution with Gaussian priors in the frequency domain, spatial domain and the use of sparse priors. The Bayesian methodology is based on the prior knowledge of some information that allows an efficient modeling of the image acquisition process. The edge preservation of objects into the image while smoothing noise is necessary for an adequate model. Thus, we use five deconvolution methods to recover images, all of the presented images are contained on TID 2008, all of them were previously degraded by Gaussian noise and convolved with a disc point spread function (PSF) making reference to a typical fluorescence microscopy degradation. The principal objective when using restoration methods in the context of image processing is to eliminate those effects caused by the excessive smoothness on the reconstruction process of an image which is rich in contours or edges and also is important to consider the process time due to an improvement in this área could lead to a faster application. A comparison between the five methods is presented for a restoration process. This collection of implemented methods has been compared using different metrics such as SNR, PSNR, SSIM and process time. The obtained results showed a satisfactory performance and the effectiveness of the proposed methods on color space
Danthron, an Anthraquinone Isolated from a Marine Fungus, Is a New Inhibitor of Angiogenesis Exhibiting Interesting Antitumor and Antioxidant Properties
The role played by a sustained angiogenesis in cancer and other diseases stimulates the
interest in the search for new antiangiogenic drugs. In this manuscript, we provide evidence that
1,8- dihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinone (danthron), isolated from the fermentation broth of the marine
fungus Chromolaenicola sp. (HL-114-33-R04), is a new inhibitor of angiogenesis. The results obtained
with the in vivo CAM assay indicate that danthron is a potent antiangiogenic compound. In vitro
studies with human umbilical endothelial cells (HUVEC) reveal that this anthraquinone inhibits
certain key functions of activated endothelial cells, including proliferation, proteolytic and invasive
capabilities and tube formation. In vitro studies with human breast carcinoma MDA-MB231 and
fibrosarcoma HT1080 cell lines suggest a moderate antitumor and antimetastatic activity of this
compound. Antioxidant properties of danthron are evidenced by the observation that it reduces the
intracellular reactive oxygen species production and increases the amount of intracellular sulfhydryl
groups in endothelial and tumor cells. These results support a putative role of danthron as a new
antiangiogenic drug with potential application in the treatment and angioprevention of cancer and
other angiogenesis-dependent diseases.Partial funding for open access charge: Universidad de Málag
