Poly-Harmonic Distortion Model Extraction in Charge-Controlled One-Port Devices
A charge-controlled, one-port device is used to
describe and discuss the extraction procedure of a Poly-Harmonic Distortion (PHD) model in detail. For this case, both voltage and current waveforms are shown to be enough to fully characterize the PHD model. It is also shown that all the information
specifically required for this PHD model definition can be stored in the Fourier coefficients of the incremental conductance and capacitance. In this contribution the computation of a nonlinear diode model based on the Poly-Harmonic Distortion principle is
described. The diode is composed of a non-linear conductance shunt connected to a non-linear capacitance, both of them quasistatic.
The procedure used to extract these parameters only requires port-voltage and -current waveforms. The computed parameters of the model at different frequencies and power levels
are presented and have been validated by comparing them with those obtained using a commercial circuit simulation tool
(specifically with X-parameters). Unlike commercial CAD tools or conventional measurement set-ups the proposed technique can

Inversión aproximada de matrices en sistemas Massive MIMO correlados en tiempo o frecuencia
Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is expected to be one of the keys in 5G. In this technology, the base station is equipped with a big number of antennas serving multiple users simultaneously to improve spectral efficiency, coverage, and range. Zero-Forcing and Minimum Mean Square Error have been considered potential practical precoding and detection methods for large scale MIMO systems but require much larger dimensions of matrix inversion. This paper presents an architecture for approximate matrix inversion based on Neumann Series, thereby reducing the cost of hardware. In addition, we propose a solution for systems with time or frequency correlation among different channels where we are able to reach a much higher throughput.Universidad de Málaga. Rational design of dual-domain binding inhibitors for N-acetylgalactosamine transferase 2 with improved selectivity over the T1 and T3 isoforms
The GalNAc-transferase (GalNAc-T) family, consisting of 20 isoenzymes, regulates the O-glycosylation process of mucin glycopeptides by transferring GalNAc units to serine/threonine residues. Dysregulation of specific GalNAc-Ts is associated with various diseases, making these enzymes attractive targets for drug development. The development of inhibitors is key to understanding the implications of GalNAc-Ts in human diseases. However, developing selective inhibitors for individual GalNAc-Ts represents a major challenge due to shared structural similarities among the isoenzymes and some degree of redundancy among the natural substrates. Herein, we report the development of a GalNAc-T2 inhibitor with higher potency compared to those of the T1 and T3 isoforms. The most promising candidate features bivalent GalNAc and thiophene moieties on a peptide chain, enabling binding to both the lectin and catalytic domains of the enzyme. The binding mode was confirmed by competitive saturation transfer difference NMR experiments and validated through molecular dynamics simulations. The inhibitor demonstrated an IC50 of 21.4 μM for GalNAc-T2, with 8- and 32-fold higher selectivity over the T3 and T1 isoforms, respectively, representing a significant step forward in the synthesis of specific GalNAc-T inhibitors tailored to the unique structural features of the targeted isoform

ovide relevant vertically-resolved information on aerosol optical
properties because the wavelength dependence of the backscatter and extinction coefficients allows for a more detailed discrimination of aerosol types. Several lidar stations belonging to SPALINET, the Spanish and Portuguese Lidar NETwork and also EARLINET, the European Aerosol Research Lidar NETwork, intercompared during a campaign that took place in Madrid from 18 October to 5 November 2010. The products provided by the lidar systems were compared with ancillary data.
At ground level, aerosol size distribution was continuously monitored. Additionally, the column-integrated characterization of the atmospheric aerosol was performed by means of a sun photometer. The extensive dataset obtained during SPALI10 field campaign enables to compare ground-level in-situ measurements with remote sensing techniques to determine vertically-resolved optical and microphysical properties of aerosols. Several relevant features shown in the comparison of the results obtained by the different instruments

Invasive Fusariosis in Nonneutropenic Patients, Spain, 2000-2015
Invasive fusariosis (IF) is associated with severe neutropenia in patients with concurrent hematologic conditions. We conducted a retrospective observational study to characterize the epidemiology of IF in 18 Spanish hospitals during 2000-2015. In that time, the frequency of IF in nonneutropenic patients increased from 0.08 cases per 100,000 admissions in 2000-2009 to 0.22 cases per 100,000 admissions in 2010-2015. Nonneutropenic IF patients often had nonhematologic conditions, such as chronic cardiac or lung disease, rheumatoid arthritis, history of solid organ transplantation, or localized fusariosis. The 90-day death rate among nonneutropenic patients (28.6%) and patients with resolved neutropenia (38.1%) was similar. However, the death rate among patients with persistent neutropenia (91.3%) was significantly higher. We used a multivariate Cox regression analysis to characterize risk factors for death: persistent neutropenia was the only risk factor for death, regardless of antifungal therapy
A Multitrait Genetic Study of Hemostatic Factors and Hemorrhagic Transformation after Stroke Treatment
BACKGROUND: Thrombolytic recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA) treatment is the only pharmacologic intervention available in the ischemic stroke acute phase. This treatment is associated with an increased risk of intracerebral hemorrhages, known as hemorrhagic transformations (HTs), which worsen the patient\u27s prognosis.
OBJECTIVES: to investigate the association between genetically determined natural hemostatic factors\u27 levels and increased risk of HT after r-tPA treatment.
METHODS: Using data from genome-wide association studies on the risk of HT after r-tPA treatment and data on 7 hemostatic factors (factor [F]VII, FVIII, von Willebrand factor [VWF], FXI, fibrinogen, plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, and tissue plasminogen activator), we performed local and global genetic correlation estimation multitrait analyses and colocalization and 2-sample Mendelian randomization analyses between hemostatic factors and HT.
RESULTS: Local correlations identified a genomic region on chromosome 16 with shared covariance: fibrinogen-HT, P = 2.45 × 10
CONCLUSION: We identified 4 shared loci between hemostatic factors and HT after r-tPA treatment, suggesting common regulatory mechanisms between fibrinogen and VWF levels and HT. Further research to determine a possible mediating effect of fibrinogen on HT risk is needed
Single nucleotide variations in ZBTB46 are associated with post-thrombolytic parenchymal haematoma
Haemorrhagic transformation is a complication of recombinant tissue-plasminogen activator treatment. The most severe form, parenchymal haematoma, can result in neurological deterioration, disability, and death. Our objective was to identify single nucleotide variations associated with a risk of parenchymal haematoma following thrombolytic therapy in patients with acute ischaemic stroke. A fixed-effect genome-wide meta-analysis was performed combining two-stage genome-wide association studies (n = 1904). The discovery stage (three cohorts) comprised 1324 ischaemic stroke individuals, 5.4% of whom had a parenchymal haematoma. Genetic variants yielding a P-value < 0.05 1 x 10(-5) were analysed in the validation stage (six cohorts), formed by 580 ischaemic stroke patients with 12.1% haemorrhagic events. All participants received recombinant tissue-plasminogen activator; cases were parenchymal haematoma type 1 or 2 as defined by the European Cooperative Acute Stroke Study (ECASS) criteria. Genome-wide significant findings (P < 5 x 10(-8)) were characterized by in silica functional annotation, gene expression, and DNA regulatory elements. We analysed 7 989 272 single nucleotide polymorphisms and identified a genome-wide association locus on chromosome 20 in the discovery cohort; functional annotation indicated that the ZBTB46 gene was driving the association for chromosome 20. The top single nucleotide polymorphism was rs76484331 in the ZBTB46 gene [P = 2.49 x 10(-8); odds ratio (OR): 11.21; 95% confidence interval (CI): 4.82-26.55]. In the replication cohort (n = 580), the rs76484331 polymorphism was associated with parenchymal haematoma (P = 0.01), and the overall association after meta-analysis increased (P = 1.61 x 10(-8), OR: 5.84; 95% CI: 3.16-10.76). ZBTB46 codes the zinc finger and BTB domain-containing protein 46 that acts as a transcription factor. In silica studies indicated that ZBTB46 is expressed in brain tissue by neurons and endothelial cells. Moreover, rs76484331 interacts with the promoter sites located at 20q13. In conclusion, we identified single nucleotide variants in the ZBTB46 gene associated with a higher risk of parenchymal haematoma following recombinant tissue-plasminogen activator treatment.Peer reviewe

EARLINET instrument intercomparison campaigns: Overview on strategy and results
This paper introduces the recent European Aerosol Research Lidar Network (EARLINET) quality-assurance efforts at instrument level. Within two dedicated campaigns and five single-site intercomparison activities, 21 EARLINET systems from 18 EARLINET stations were intercompared between 2009 and 2013. A comprehensive strategy for campaign setup and data evaluation has been established. Eleven systems from nine EARLINET stations participated in the EARLINET Lidar Intercomparison 2009 (EARLI09). In this campaign, three reference systems were qualified which served as traveling standards thereafter. EARLINET systems from nine other stations have been compared against these reference systems since 2009. We present and discuss comparisons at signal and at product level from all campaigns for more than 100 individual measurement channels at the wavelengths of 355, 387, 532, and 607 nm. It is shown that in most cases, a very good agreement of the compared systems with the respective reference is obtained. Mean signal deviations in predefined height ranges are typically below ±2 %. Particle backscatter and extinction coefficients agree within ±2 × 10−4 km−1 sr−1 and ± 0.01 km−1, respectively, in most cases. For systems or channels that showed larger discrepancies, an in-depth analysis of deficiencies was performed and technical solutions and upgrades were proposed and realized. The intercomparisons have reinforced confidence in the EARLINET data quality and allowed us to draw conclusions on necessary system improvements for some instruments and to identify major challenges that need to be tackled in the future

Multitrait analysis between fibrinogen-HT revealed 3 loci that simultaneously regulate circulating levels of fibrinogen and risk of HT: rs56026866 (PLXND1), P = 8.80 × 10−10; rs1421067 (CHD9), P = 1.81 × 10−14; and rs34780449, near ROBO1 gene, P = 1.64 × 10−8. Multitrait analysis between VWF-HT showed a novel common association regulating VWF and risk of HT after r-tPA at rs10942300 (ZNF366), P = 1.81 × 10−14. Mendelian randomization analysis did not find significant causal associations, although a nominal association was observed for FXI-HT (inverse-variance weighted estimate [SE], 0.07 [−0.29 to 0.00]; odds ratio, 0.87; 95% CI, 0.75-1.00; raw P = .05).[Conclusion] We identified 4 shared loci between hemostatic factors and HT after r-tPA treatment, suggesting common regulatory mechanisms between fibrinogen and VWF levels and HT.
