A maximum-mean-discrepancy goodness-of-fit test for censored data
We introduce a kernel-based goodness-of-fit test for censored data, where
observations may be missing in random time intervals: a common occurrence in
clinical trials and industrial life-testing. The test statistic is
straightforward to compute, as is the test threshold, and we establish
consistency under the null. Unlike earlier approaches such as the Log-rank
test, we make no assumptions as to how the data distribution might differ from
the null, and our test has power against a very rich class of alternatives. In
experiments, our test outperforms competing approaches for periodic and Weibull
hazard functions (where risks are time dependent), and does not show the
failure modes of tests that rely on user-defined features. Moreover, in cases
where classical tests are provably most powerful, our test performs almost as
well, while being more general
Kaplan-Meier V- and U-statistics
In this paper, we study Kaplan-Meier V- and U-statistics respectively defined
as and
, where is the Kaplan-Meier estimator,
are the Kaplan-Meier weights and is a symmetric kernel. As in the canonical setting of uncensored data, we
differentiate between two asymptotic behaviours for and
. Additionally, we derive an asymptotic canonical
V-statistic representation of the Kaplan-Meier V- and U-statistics. By using
this representation we study properties of the asymptotic distribution.

Where the eye takes you: the processing of gender in codeswitching
Functionalization and Characterization of Magnetic Nanoparticles for the Detection of Ferritin Accumulation in Alzheimer's Disease
Early diagnosis in Alzheimer's disease (AD), prior to the appearance of marked clinical symptoms, is critical to prevent irreversible neuronal damage and neural malfunction that lead to dementia and death. Therefore, there is an urgent need to generate new contrast agents which reveal by a noninvasive method the presence of some of the pathological signs of AD. In the present study, we demonstrate for the first time a new nanoconjugate composed of magnetic nanoparticles bound to an antiferritin antibody, which has been developed based on the existence of iron deposits and high levels of the ferritin protein present in areas with a high accumulation of amyloid plaques (particularly the subiculum in the hippocampal area) in the brain of a transgenic mouse model with five familial AD mutations. Both in vitro and after intravenous injection, functionalized magnetic nanoparticles were able to recognize and bind specifically to the ferritin protein accumulated in the subiculum area of the AD transgenic mice.Fil: Fernández Cabada, Tamara. Energy balance data from lactating dairy goats offered total mixed diets
[EN] The objective of the study was to develop a univariate model for analyzing energy balance data from lactating goats at mid lactation and determine maintenance requirements and partial efficiencies of energy utilization. Energy balance data from eight studies involving lactating Murciano-Granadina goats fed total mixed diets, which accounted for a variation in metabolizable energy (MEI) intake, milk energy output (EI), and tissue energy balance, were used. The database included records obtained by indirect calorimetry. Data were adjusted with a mixed model that included the study as a random effect. Then, two multivariate linear models were obtained: metabolizable and net energy models. The metabolizable model was MEI=ß0+ß2E1+ß3Tg+ß4T1+¿ and the net energy model was E1=ß0+ß1MEI+ß2Tg+ß3T1+¿; where ß0, ß1, ß2 and ß3 were the parameters, Tg was tissue energy retention and Tl the milk energy derived from body stores. For a better fitted proposed model, net energy for maintenance (NEm) was 283 kJ/kg of Body Weight 0.75 (BW) per day, and the efficiency of utilization of ME for lactation (k1), body weight gain (kg) and body tissue mobilization for milk production (kt) were 62%, 83% and 78%, respectively. Maintenance requirements and partial efficiencies for milk production and tissue energy mobilization were similar to the values proposed by INRA (2018). The increase in the efficiency of utilizing dietary energy for gain, compared with other feeding systems, was partially attributed to the stage of lactation, due to that goats were feeding at mid lactationFernández Martínez, CJ.; Romero Rueda, T. Midiendo la disposición general a sentir empatía y estrés
The Vicarious Experience Scale (VES) is a new measure aimed at measuring the disposition to feeling empathy and personal distress. In Study 1, participants completed the VES along with the classic measure of Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI). In Studies 2 and 3, participants observed the case of a person in need and subsequently reported the elicited emotions of empathy and personal distress; participants filled in the VES either a few minutes later (Study 2) or three months before the presentation of the case (Study 3). The results supported both the convergent validity of the VES and its capacity in a specific situationLa Escala de Experiencias Vicarias (VES) es un nuevo instrumento diseñado para medir la disposición personal a sentir empatía y estrés.
