Pion scattering poles and chiral symmetry restoration
Using unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory methods, we perform a detailed
analysis of the scattering poles and behaviour
when medium effects such as temperature or density drive the system towards
Chiral Symmetry Restoration. In the analysis of real poles below threshold, we
show that it is crucial to extend properly the unitarized amplitudes so that
they match the perturbative Adler zeros. Our results do not show threshold
enhancement effects at finite temperature in the channel, which
remains as a pole of broad nature. We also implement T=0 finite density effects
related to chiral symmetry restoration, by varying the pole position with the
pion decay constant. Although this approach takes into account only a limited
class of contributions, we reproduce the expected finite density restoration
behaviour, which drives the poles towards the real axis, producing threshold
enhancement and bound states. We compare our results with several
model approaches and discuss the experimental consequences, both in
Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions and in and
reactions in nuclei.Comment: 17 pages, 9 figures, final version to appear in Phys.Rev.D, added

Disentangling a dynamical Higgs
The pattern of deviations from Standard Model predictions and couplings is
different for theories of new physics based on a non-linear realization of the
gauge symmetry breaking and those assuming a linear
realization. We clarify this issue in a model-independent way via its effective
Lagrangian formulation in the presence of a light Higgs particle, up to first
order in the expansions: dimension-six operators for the linear expansion and
four derivatives for the non-linear one. Complete sets of pure gauge and
gauge-Higgs operators are considered, implementing the renormalization
procedure and deriving the Feynman rules for the non-linear expansion. We
establish the theoretical relation and the differences in physics impact
between the two expansions. Promising discriminating signals include the
decorrelation in the non-linear case of signals correlated in the linear one:
some pure gauge versus gauge-Higgs couplings and also between couplings with
the same number of Higgs legs. Furthermore, anomalous signals expected at first
order in the non-linear realization may appear only at higher orders of the
linear one, and vice versa. We analyze in detail the impact of both type of
discriminating signals on LHC physics.Comment: Version published in JHE
Sacubitril-valsartan in heart failure and multimorbidity patients
Aims The poor control of symptoms in patients with advanced heart failure with reduced ejection function (HFrEF) can limit
the functionality of patients. Sacubitril–valsartan, compared with enalapril, has been shown to reduce mortality and hospitalization, and nowadays, there is still little evidence about the improvement on functionality. The aim of our study is to analyse
the improvement of the functional class and the 6 min walking test (6MWT) in patients with multiple pathologies and
advanced heart failure.
Methods and results From September 2016 to March 2018, 65 multimorbidity patients with severe symptomatic HFrEF
were initiated to receive sacubitril–valsartan. Mean age was 78.6 ± 7.4 years, and 68% were male. The Charlson
co-morbidity index was 8 points. Seventy-four per cent had New York Heart Association (NYHA) Functional Class IV. After
the treatment, patients were able to achieve 55.68 m or more on 6MWT, and 91% presented an improvement in the NYHA
functional class.
Conclusions Sacubitril–valsartan relieves symptoms and improves functional class prognostic risk of patients with advanced
HFrEF and co-morbidit
Nuclear structure of Ac-231
The low-energy structure of 231Ac has been investigated by means of gamma ray
spectroscopy following the beta-decay of 231Ra. Multipolarities of 28
transitions have been established by measuring conversion electrons with a
mini-orange electron spectrometer. The decay scheme of 231Ra --> 231Ac has been
constructed for the first time. The Advanced Time Delayed beta-gamma-gamma(t)
method has been used to measure the half-lives of five levels. The moderately
fast B(E1) transition rates derived suggest that the octupole effects, albeit
weak, are still present in this exotic nucleus
Aprendiendo de la naturaleza. Estrategia biodigital para una arquitectura sostenible
Throughout history, man has turned to biology to solve his design problems. Today, we face a new stage in design that demands that we take care of nature and its non-renewable resources. From this standpoint, this work conducts an interdisciplinary investigation aimed to identify and classify the concepts that define environmentally friendly architectural projects. It studies paradigmatic cases that position biology and digital systems as a reference barycenter, and that analyzes their application in the field of design. Based on several examples, we attempt to verify results that demonstrate that we stand before a spirit of overcoming, a bio-learning that contributes to the benefit and development of a more human environment. Muon spin rotation and neutron scattering study of the non-centrosymmetric tetragonal compound CeAuAl3
We have investigated the non-centrosymmetric tetragonal heavy-fermion
compound CeAuAl3 using muon spin rotation (muSR), neutron diffraction (ND) and
inelastic neutron scattering (INS) measurements. We have also revisited the
magnetic, transport and thermal properties. The magnetic susceptibility reveals
an antiferromagnetic transition at 1.1 K with a possibility of another magnetic
transition near 0.18 K. The heat capacity shows a sharp lambda-type anomaly at
1.1 K in zero-filed, which broadens and moves to higher temperature in applied
magnetic field. Our zero-field muSR and ND measurements confirm the existence
of a long-range magnetic ground state below 1.2 K. Further the ND study reveals
an incommensurate magnetic ordering with a magnetic propagation vector k = (0,
0, 0.52) and a spiral structure of Ce moments coupled ferromagnetically within
the ab-plane. Our INS study reveals the presence of two well-defined crystal
electric field (CEF) excitations at 5.1 meV and 24.6 meV in the paramagnetic
phase of CeAuAl3 which can be explained on the basis of the CEF theory.
Furthermore, low energy quasi-elastic excitations show a Gaussian line shape
below 30 K compared to a Lorentzian line shape above 30 K, indicating a
slowdown of spin fluctuation below 30 K. We have estimated a Kondo temperature
of TK=3.5 K from the quasi-elastic linewidth, which is in good agreement with
that estimated from the heat capacity. This study also indicates the absence of
any CEF-phonon coupling unlike that observed in isostructural CeCuAl3. The CEF
parameters, energy level scheme and their wave functions obtained from the
analysis of INS data explain satisfactorily the single crystal susceptibility
in the presence of two-ion anisotropic exchange interaction in CeAuAl3.Comment: 28 pages and 17 figure
From Leonardo da Vinci during the Renaissance to Antoni Gaudí in the 19th and 20th century, and more recently with the work of Neri Oxman, nature has become an invaluable teacher for studying ways of designing efficiently but also in harmony with the context. A rich natural world that provides countless models to learn from. For the writer Janine Benyus, nature has an experience of 3.8 billion years of research and development, its failures have been fossilised, what surrounds us are its survivors.
From this point of view, and with an approach centred on the processes developed in nature, this paper aims to present the characteristics of biodigital thought, as an effective and innovative design tool. To this end, a case study is proposed here, in which, based on the observation of biological organisms and the use of digital systems for modelling and optimising the project, a new conception of design has been developed, an approach to the production of complex structures of a biodigital nature, in a spirit that goes beyond the traditional mechanistic proposal. In essence, it is a question of advanced architecture, of prospection, of overcoming a simple conventional ecologism, or the use of computers as mere substitutes for manual drawing: it is "a new ecological-environmental design and a new cybernetic-digital design"
Local Stories, Global Music. Sound trade marks in the lastest genres of Spanish Cinema
This article deals with the use of music in certain specific cinematic genres in the Spanish context. It focuses specifically on two typologies which are very characteristic of the last decade. First, it is possible to trace the existence of a number of comedies which offer second readings of the musical clichés of the adventure genre in order to use them as elements of parody. As a paradigm of this genre, the composer Roque Baños writes in Hollywood symphonic style for the least "cool" productions of Spanish cinema. In contrast, but complementing this, the theme song constitutes a musical trade mark for the latest expressions of the realist genre. These examples show that to the sound trade marks for each genre, standardized musical conventions, we need to add the peculiarities of each country. This gives rise to meanings that arise from the sum of genre clichés and local characteristics
