    Guerra, Pace e Suffragio. La sezione italiana della Women’s International league for Peace and Freedom (1915-1928)

    Cet essai illustre le cas politique et humain de la Section Italienne de la Ligue Internationale des Femmes pour la Paix et la Liberté (LIFPL). Le cadre politique, où cette expérience se place, a été sensible aux demandes internationalistes, socialistes et pacifistes, qui caractérisaient la vie politique européenne et italienne à la fin du xixe siècle et au début du xxe siècle. C’est dans ce contexte que des femmes de différents milieux sociaux, toutefois unies par un fort sentiment pacifiste, ont décidé de se réunir au Congrès International des Femmes (La Haye, 28 avril 1915), en y voyant une occasion d’occuper l’espace public international exigeant la fin de la guerre.La Section Italienne de la Ligue a été créée comme une branche de la Commission Internationale des Femmes pour la Paix Permanente lorsque Rosa Genoni – la seule représentante italienne à avoir participé au Congrés de La Haye – revint à Milan. Pendant les années de guerre, la Section a maintenu des contacts avec Amsterdam et, à partir du 1919, avec le Bureau de Genève.La documentation disponible, principalement des lettres conservées dans les archives de la Ligue, permet au stade actuel de ma recherche une reconstruction préalable des événements concernant ce petit groupe de femmes italiennes qui, en raison de leurs penchants socialistes et de leur adhésion antérieure à des organisations internationales de femmes, ont décidé de manifester leur opposition à la guerre, même quand l’Italie intervient dans le conflit après sa neutralité initiale. Les documents consultés montrent une section qui, en dépit de ses origines précoces, demeure plutôt périphérique par rapport aux capacités d’initiative de la LIFPL.Sont décrites ici les initiatives prises par ces femmes, tandis qu’elles se battaient entre leur désir d’une paix durable et le désir d’affirmation personnelle dans la sphère politique et publique. Une attention particulière est accordée aux difficultés rencontrées dans la poursuite de leurs objectifs en raison des sévères contrôles de police auxquels elles ont été soumises. Enfin, j’illustrerai la relation difficile entre la Section Italienne et le Comité Exécutif International de la Ligue, montrant la myopie de cette dernière sur des questions nationales, conduisant à une marginalisation croissante de la Section.This essay aims at illustrating the political and human case of the WILPF’s Italian Section. The political framework of this experience was sensitive to internationalist, socialist and pacifist demands, which characterized European as well as Italian political life in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.In this context, women from different social backgrounds but united by a strong anti-war sentiment decided to meet at the International Congress of Women (The Hague, April 28, 1915), seeing in it an opportunity to occupy internationally the otherwise narrow public space they could enjoy. The Italian Section of the WILPF was established as a national branch of the International Committee of Women for Permanent Peace, when Rosa Genoni – the only Italian who attended at The Hague Congress – returned to Milan. During the war years the Italian Section maintained contacts with Amsterdam and, from 1919, with the Geneva Office.Available documentation – mainly letters preserved in the archives of the League – allows at this stage of my research only an initial reconstruction of events concerning this small group of pacifists who, because of their socialist leanings and their previous adhesion to international suffragist groups, decided to demonstrate their opposition to the war and continued to adhere to their ideas even when Italy entered the war after its initial neutrality. Consulted documents portray a Section that, notwithstanding its precocious origins, remained rather peripherical with respect to WILPF initiative capabilities.I will describe, therefore, initiatives undertaken by Italian women, while they were fighting between their desire for a lasting peace and the desire for their personal affirmation in political and public sphere. I will pay particular attention to difficulties they faced in pursuing their goals, because of the tightened police controls to which they were subjected.Finally, I will illustrate the difficult relationship between the Italian Section and the International Executive Committee, and how the latter was blind about national political matters, resulting in an increasing marginalization of the Section

    The "Smart Ring" Experience in l'Aquila (Italy): Integrating Smart Mobility Public Services with Air Quality Indexes

    This work presents the "City Dynamics and Smart Environment" activities of the Smart Ring project, a model for the smart city, based on the integration of sustainable urban transport services and environmental monitoring over a 4–5-km circular path, the "Smart Ring", around the historical center of l'Aquila (Italy). We describe our pilot experience performed during an experimental on-demand public service electric bus, "SmartBus", which was equipped with a multi-parametric air quality low-cost gas electrochemical sensor platform, "NASUS IV". For five days (28–29 August 2014 and 1–3 September 2014), the sensor platform was installed inside the SmartBus and measured air quality gas compounds (nitrogen dioxide, carbon oxide, sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide) during the service. Data were collected and analyzed on the bases of an air quality index, which provided qualitative insights on the air status potentially experienced by the users. The results obtained are in agreement with the synoptic meteorological conditions, the urban background air quality reference measurements and the potential traffic flow variations. Furthermore, they indicated that the air quality status was influenced by the gas component NO 2 , followed by H 2 S, SO 2 and CO. We discuss the features of our campaign, and we highlight the potential, limitations and key factors to consider for future project designs

    Electro-optically induced absorption in α-Si:H/α-SiCN waveguiding multistacks

    Electro optical absorption in hydrogenated amorphous silicon (α-Si:H) - amorphous silicon carbonitride (α-SiCxNγ) multilayers have been studied in two different planar multistacks waveguides. The waveguides were realized by plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD), a technology compatible with the standard microelectronic processes. Light absorption is induced at λ = 1.55 μm through the application of an electric field which induces free carrier accumulation across the multiple insulator/ semiconductor device structure. The experimental performances have been compared to those obtained through calculations using combined two-dimensional (2-D) optical and electrical simulations. © 2008 Optical Society of America

    Objetiva-se com este artigo apresentar o conceito e a caracterização dos alunos que apresentam indicativo de Altas Habilidades-Superdotação na Rede Municipal de Ensino de Cascavel, nos anos iniciais. Para desenvolver o estudo, utilizou-se da  pesquisa bibliográfica e  pesquisa de campo, junto aos professores atuantes nos anos iniciais. A pesquisa bibliográfica pautou-se na análise de produções acadêmicas de relevância na atualidade e de autores que são referências nos estudos das Altas Habilidades/Superdotação. A pesquisa de campo realizada nas escolas da rede municipal evidenciou que, naquele momento, significativa parcela de professores da rede municipal demonstraram pouco conhecimento em relação à temática tratada, o que pode ser a causa da não identificação de alunos com indicativo de Altas Habilidades-Superdotação

    Association between functional EGF+61polymorphism and glioma risk

    Epidermal growthf actor (EGF) plays a critical role in cancer. A polymorphism in the EGF gene (EGF+61) may influence its expression and contribute to cancer predisposition and aggressiveness. In the present study, we aimed to elucidate the role of EGF+61in glioma susceptibility and prognosis. Experimental Design:A case-control study involving197 glioma patients and 570 controlswas done. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were used to calculate odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (95% CI). False-positive report probability was also assessed.The luciferase reporter gene assay was used to ascertain the functional consequences of this polymorphism. Results: Corroborating the univariate analysis, the multivariate model showed that the G allele conferred higher risks for gliomas (OR,1.32; 95% CI,1.04-1.67), glioblastomas (OR,1.47; 95% CI, 1.02-2.10), and oligodendrogliomas (OR,1.55; 95% CI,1.07-2.23).TheGG genotypeswere associatedwithincreased risk for gliomas (OR,1.71; 95%CI,1.07-2.73), glioblastomas (OR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.02-4.05), and oligodendrogliomas (OR, 2.72; 95% CI, 1.18-6.28). In addition, the AG+GG genotypes were associated withhigher risk for gliomas (OR,1.52; 95% CI,1.03-2.23) and oligodendrogliomas (OR, 2.80; 95% CI,1.35-5.79). No significant associationwas observed between the EGF+61polymorphism and glioblastoma or oligodendroglioma patients’overall survival. The luciferase reporter gene assay exhibited a significant increased promoter activity for the G variant compared withthe referenceA allele. Conclusions: These findings support the role of the EGF+61polymorphism as a susceptibility factor for development of gliomas and show its implication on EGF promoter activity.Sixth Research Framework Programme of the European Union, Project INCA (LSHC-CT-2005-018704

    Educational pamphlets on health: a reception study

    OBJETIVOS Identificar o perfil socioeconômico e cultural de usuários de folhetos educativos, caracterizar o contexto de leitura do material e das pessoas envolvidas, descrever a avaliação dos usuários em relação ao estilo de linguagem empregada e a abrangência ou limitação dos conteúdos, caracterizar como o material educativo pôde auxiliar o usuário em relação ao atendimento das demandas de cuidados em domicílio. MÉTODO Estudo de recepção, transversal, qualitativo. Foram entrevistados 27 respondentes que receberam cinco folhetos educativos sobre sinais e sintomas em Oncologia, durante o atendimento ambulatorial. RESULTADOS Os integrantes do estudo eram adultos, com escolaridade média acima de 10 anos e baixo poder aquisitivo. Os folhetos foram avaliados como adequados quanto à clareza de linguagem, quantidade e qualidade dos conteúdos e, principalmente, em relação à capacidade de auxiliar nas decisões tomadas em domicílio. Verificou-se a importância de seu recebimento na fase inicial da doença. CONCLUSÃO A recepção dos usuários foi positiva e o estudo evidenciou aspectos que devem ser potencializados na elaboração dos folhetos educativos.OBJETIVOS Identificar el perfil socioeconómico y cultural de usuarios de folletos educativos, caracterizar el contexto de lectura del material y las personas involucradas, describir la evaluación de los usuarios con respecto al estilo de lenguaje empleado y al alcance o limitación de los contenidos, caracterizar como el material educativo pudo auxiliar al usuario con respecto a la atención de las demandas de cuidados a domicilio. MÉTODO Estudio de recepción, transversal, cualitativo. Se entrevistaron a 27 respondientes, quienes recibieron cinco folletos educativos acerca de las señales y los síntomas en Oncología, durante la atención ambulatoria. RESULTADOS Los integrantes del estudio eran adultos, con escolaridad media arriba de 10 años y bajo poder adquisitivo. Los folletos fueron evaluados como adecuados en cuanto a la claridad del lenguaje, la cantidad y calidad de los contenidos y, especialmente, con respecto a la capacidad de ayudar en las decisiones tomadas en domicilio. Se verificó la importancia de su recibido en la fase inicial de la enfermedad. CONCLUSIÓN La recepción de los usuarios fue positiva y el estudio evidenció aspectos que deben ser potenciados en el diseño de los folletos educativos.OBJECTIVES Identifying the socioeconomic and cultural profile of users/readers of educational pamphlets, characterizing the context of the reading material and people involved; describing the user/reader evaluation on language and style used, as well as content range or limitations, and its characterization as an educational material in assisting users for meeting homecare demands. METHOD A reception, cross-sectional, qualitative study. 27 respondents who had received five educational pamphlets were interviewed on Oncology signs and symptoms during primary care consultations. RESULTS Study participants were adults, with average schooling of more than 10 years and low income. Pamphlets were assessed as appropriate for consistent language, quantity and quality of content, and especially in relation to the capacity of helping in the homecare decision making process. The importance of receiving pamphlets at the initial stage of the disease was verified. CONCLUSION Users acceptance was positive and the study revealed aspects that should be reinforced in the creation of educational pamphlets

    Contribución de la extensión universitaria en el desarrollo de los estudiantes de licenciatura en enfermería

    Introdução: O conceito de Extensão Universitária (Ext Univ)articula ensino e pesquisa de modo a intervir na realidade social. Objetivos:caracterizar os programas e projetos de Ext Univ de acordocom natureza, objetivos, plano de trabalho e intencionalidade educacional; identificar as atividades desempenhadas pelos estudantes nas atividades de Ext Univ; identificar competências e habilidades desenvolvidas no exercício da Ext Univ e comparar esses resultados com um grupo de graduandos e formandos-não extensionistas. Método:descritivo, transversal, com triangulação de métodos, dividido em duas fases. Na Fase 1, realizou-se uma análise documental dosprogramas (PGS) e projetos (PJS) sociais cadastrados na Pró-Reitoria de Extensão (PROEX), coordenados por docentes da Escola Paulista de Enfermagem (EPE) da Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). Na Fase 2,,construiu-se um questionário que foi validado pelos coordenadores dos PGS e PJS que aceitaram participar da pesquisa, por meio da Técnica de Delphi. O questionário foi aplicado aos discentes graduandos formandos no ano de 2013, da EPE-UNIFESP. A análise qualitativa pautou-se na técnica de análise de conteúdo e no quadro teórico-normativo relativo aosprogramas (PGS) e projetos (PJS) sociais cadastrados na Pró-Reitoria de Extensão (PROEX), coordenados por docentes da EPE; na análise quantitativa pautou-se pela apreciação (descritiva) dos quantificáveis obtidos e estatística analítica das informações coletadas por meio do questionário validado. Resultados: Na Fase verificou-se que os 13 PGS e PJS pertenciam, predominantemente, à área da saúde e seus objetivos gerais relacionavam-se com a articulação de ações nas áreas da promoção e educação em saúde e com ações de ensino, pesquisa e extensão. Seus grupos populacionais de atuação eram compostos por usuários do SUS, escolares, pessoas da comunidade, participantes de outras instituições e grupos socialmente vulneráveis. Entre seus integrantes estavam docentes, graduandos, pós-graduandos da UNIFESP e participantes externos. A frequência e a carga horária dos PGS e PJS foram variáveis e com características distintas entre si. Na Fase 2, acomparação realizada entre as respostas dos extensionistas e não-extensionistas demonstrou-se favorável para a Ext Univ acerca das questões sobre o aperfeiçoamento de técnicas de comunicação (p 0,006), capacidade de inserção em ambientes favoráveis à troca de conhecimento teórico e prático entre os estudantes, a população-alvo e aos profissionais envolvidos, à transferência de conhecimento (p0,004), ao desenvolvimento de senso crítico e reflexivo, à visão ampliada dos problemas sociais, à postura pró-ativa (p0,04), à busca de novos conhecimentos e ao contato com áreas específicas. Conclusão: Os extensionistas e não-extensionistas reconhecem a contribuição das atividades da Ext Univ, na construção de habilidades e competências, desenvolvidas no transcorrer do curso de graduação, com destaque para habilidades de comunicação, postura pró-ativa, desenvolvimento do senso crítico e reflexivo sobre os problemas de saúde do país e capacidade de aprender a aprender.Introduction: The concept of University Extension (Ext Univ) articulates teaching and research in order to intervene in social reality. Objectives: to characterize Ext Univ programs and projects in according to its nature, objectives, work plan and educational intentionality in the training of nurses; to identify activities performed by students in Ext Univ activities; to identify skills and abilities developed in the activities of Ext Univ and to compare these results with a group of non-extension graduating students and graduates. Method: descriptive, transversal, with triangulation of methods, divided into two phases. In Phase 1 a Documentary Analysis of the documents related to the programs (PGS) and projects (PJS) registered in the Pró-Reitoria de Extensão (PROEX), coordinated by professors of the Escola Paulista de Enfermagem (EPE) of the Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). In Phase 2, a questionnaire was constructed and validated through the Delphi Technique by the PGS and PJS coordinators who accepted to participate in the research. Afterwards, the questionnaire was applied to undergraduate students graduating in the year 2013, from EPE-UNIFESP. The qualitative analysis was based on the technique of content analysis and on the theoretical-normative framework related to programs (PGS) and social projects (PJS) registered on Pró-Reitoria de Extensão (PROEX), coordinated by professor from EPE; the quantitative analysis was based on the (descriptive) appreciation of the quantifiable data obtained and on the analytical statistics analysis of the information collected through the validated questionnaire. Results: Phase 1 identified that the 13 PGS and PJS belonged predominantly to the health area, its general objectives related to the articulation of actions in the areas of Health Promotion and Education and with actions of Teaching, Research and Extension. Its population groups were composed of SUS users, schoolchildren, community members, participants from other institutions and socially vulnerable groups. Among its members were professors, undergraduates, UNIFESP post-graduates and external participants. The frequency and the time load of PGS and PJS were variable and with different characteristics. In Phase 2 the comparison between the extensionist and non-extensionist responses was favorable to Ext Univ regarding the improvement of communication techniques (p 0.006), insertion capacity in environments favorable to the exchange of practical and theoretical knowledge between the students, the population and involved professionals, knowledge exchange (p0.004), development of a critical and reflective sense, an expanded view of social problems, proactive posture (p0,04), search for new knowledge and contact with specific areas. Conclusion: Extensionists and non-extensionists recognize the contribution of Ext Univ activities in the construction of skills and competences during the undergraduate course, with emphasis on communication skills, proactive posture, development of a critical and reflexive sense regarding the country’s health problems and the ability to learn how to learn.Introducción: El concepto de Extensión Universitaria (Ext Univ) articula enseñanza e investigación para intervenir en la realidad social. Objetivos: caracterizar los programas y proyectos de Ext Univ de acuerdo con naturaleza, objetivos, plan de trabajo e intencionalidad educativa en la formación de enfermeros; identificar las actividades realizadas por los estudiantes en las actividades de Ext Univ; identificar competencias y habilidades desarrolladas en las áreas de asistencia, educación en salud e investigación científica en el ejercicio de las actividades de Ext Univ; comparar estos resultados con un grupo de graduandos y estudiantes no extensionistas. Método: descriptivo, transversal, con triangulación de métodos, dividido en dos fases. En la Fase 1 se realizó un Análisis Documental de los documentos relativos a los programas (PGS) y proyectos (PJS) sociales catastrados en la Pro-Rectoría de Extensión (PROEX), coordinados por docentes de la Escuela Paulista de Enfermería (EPE) de la Universidad Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP). En la Fase 2 se construyó un cuestionario que fue validado por los coordinadores de los PGS y PJS por medio de la Técnica de Delphi. El cuestionario fue aplicado a los alumnos graduandos en el año 2013, de la EPE-UNIFESP. El análisis cualitativo se basó en la técnica de análisis de contenido y en el marco teórico-normativo sobre la Ext Univ en Brasil y el análisis cuantitativo se basó en la apreciación (descriptiva) de los cuantificables obtenidos, y en estadística analítica de las informaciones recolectadas. Resultados: En la Fase 1 se identificó que los 13 PGS y PJS pertenecían predominantemente el área de la salud, sus objetivos generales se relacionaban con la articulación de acciones en las áreas de la Promoción y Educación en Salud y con acciones de Enseñanza, Investigación y Extensión. Sus grupos poblacionales de actuación estaban compuestos por usuarios del SUS, escolares, personas de la comunidad, participantes de otras instituciones, grupos vulnerables socialmente. Entre sus integrantes estaban docentes, graduandos, postgraduandos de la UNIFESP y participantes externos. La frecuencia y la carga horaria de los PGS y PJS se mostraron variables y con características distintas entre sí. En la Fase 2, la comparación realizada entre las respuestas de los extensionistas y no extensionistas se demostró favorable para la Ext Univ acerca de las cuestiones sobre el perfeccionamiento de técnicas de comunicación (p 0,006), capacidad de inserción en ambientes favorables al intercambio de conocimiento teórico y (p0,004), desarrollo de ser crítico y reflexivo, visión ampliada de los problemas sociales, postura proactiva (p0,04), búsqueda de nuevos conocimientos y contacto con áreas específicas. Conclusión: Los extensionistas y no extensionistas reconocen la contribución de las actividades de Ext Univ en la construcción de habilidades y competencias en el transcurso del curso de graduación, con enfasis para habilidades de comunicación, postura proactiva, desarrollo del sentido crítico y reflexivo sobre los problemas de la salud del país y la capacidad de aprender a aprender

    Identificación de las características definidoras de miedo y ansiedad en pacientes programadas para cirugía ginecológica

    OBJECTIVES: To identify defining characteristics of fear and anxiety during the immediate preoperative period in patient scheduled for gynecological surgery, and to diagnose preoperative anxiety syndrome. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study with 50 patients from the gynecological unit of the São Paulo hospital. Data was collected in May 2007. RESULTS: Preoperative anxiety syndrome was diagnosed in 48 of the participants (96.0%). CONCLUSION: Participants had clinical symptoms leading to the diagnosis of preoperative anxiety syndrome.OBJETIVOS: Identificar la presencia de las características definidoras de Miedo y Ansiedad en el pre-operatorio inmediato de 50 pacientes sometidas a cirugía ginecológica, y verificar el Síndrome de Ansiedad Perioperatoria. MÉTODOS: Este estudio de cohorte de carácter transversal tuvo como objetivo fue realizado en la Unidad de Ginecología del Hospital São Paulo en mayo del 2007. RESULTADOS: Se confirmó la presencia de los diagnósticos de interés en 48 pacientes (96,0%) de un total de 50 mujeres (100,0%). El Síndrome de Ansiedad Perioperatoria fue identificada en 48 (96,0%) de las pacientes. CONCLUSIÓN: Con la investigación se comprobó la presencia de los diagnósticos Miedo y Ansiedad, debido a las manifestaciones clínicas, también contribuyentes para evidenciar el Síndrome de Ansiedad Perioperatoria.OBJETIVOS: Identificar a presença das características definidoras Medo e Ansiedade no pré-operatório imediato de 50 pacientes submetidas à cirurgia ginecológica, e verificar a Síndrome da Ansiedade Perioperatória. RESULTADOS: Confirmou-se a presença dos diagnósticos de interesse em 48 pacientes (96,0%) do total de 50 mulheres (100,0%). A Síndrome da Ansiedade Perioperatória foi identificada em 48 (96,0%) das pacientes.     Este apresenta às discussões encaminhadas no ano de 2018, em Curso de formação continuada (40 horas) aos professores que atuam com Educação Especial no NRE-Cascavel, objetivou-se discutir os conceitos de Transtornos do Espectro Autista e Altas Habilidades, e investigar alternativas pedagógicas para o trabalho com esses alunos. A formação foi organizada em oito encontros presenciais. Os resultados evidenciaram carências relacionadas à formação na área. Aponta-se à premência de investimento público na qualificação docente, e ressalta-se a importância da formação de modo a orientar o trabalho com os estudantes público da Educação Especial. 

    E-Cadherin (CDH1) and p53 rather than SMAD4 and Caspase-10 germline mutations contribute to genetic predisposition in Portuguese gastric cancer patients

    Approximately 30% of all hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) families carry CDH1 germline mutations. The other two thirds remain genetically unexplained and are probably caused by alterations in other genes. Using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)/single-strand conformation polymorphism (SSCP)/sequencing, we screened 32 Portuguese families with a history of gastric cancer and 23 patients with early onset gastric cancer for CDH1 germline mutations. In probands negative for CDH1 mutations, we screened genes involved in hereditary cancer syndromes in which gastric cancer may be one of the component tumours, namely p53 (Li-Fraumeni Syndrome) and hMLH1 and hMSH2 (HNPCC). We also screened in these patients for mutations in Caspase-10, a gene inactivated in sporadic gastric cancer, and SMAD4, a gene whose inactivation in mice is associated with signet-ring cell carcinoma of the stomach. One of the families fulfilling the HDGC criteria harboured a CDH1 germline mutation, and one of the families with incomplete criteria harboured a p53 germline mutation. No mutations were identified in hMLH1 and hMSH2, and only sequence variants were found in SMAD4 and Caspase-10. The present work reports for the first time CDH1 germline mutations in Portuguese gastric cancer families, and highlights the need for p53 mutation screening in families lacking CDH1 germline mutations, in a country with one of the highest incidences of gastric cancer in the world.
