El balneario romano de Lugo: una nueva interpretación arquitectónica y funcional

En las proximidades de la ciudad de Lugo, a orillas del río Miño, se localiza el balneario moderno de dicha ciudad en cuyo interior se descubre uno de los edificios más singulares y mejor conservados de la antigua Lucus Augusti. La presencia de aguas mineromedicinales, así como su localización y organización constructiva inciden en la necesidad de reconsiderar su configuración histórica y arquitectónica, y por lo tanto su interpretación, atentos a las singularidades constructivas de este tipo de complejos salutíferos en época romana

The original Roman mineral-medicinal water supply system in Lugo’s healing spa: new data

En el balneario de Lugo, situado a los pies de esa ciudad, son múltiples las evidencias arqueológicas que se constatan del complejo romano de baños salutíferos y que aún en la actualidad se pueden visitar dentro de la instalación moderna. Sin embargo, uno de los aspectos peor conocidos remite al sistema romano de captación y distribución del agua mineromedicinal termal dentro del establecimiento, aspecto motivado en gran medida por su reutilización y su compleja articulación. Para solventar ese vacío, presentamos una primera descripción y análisis de las infraestructuras romanas que lo constituyen y que, gracias a su inmejorable estado de conservación, siguen siendo el eje vertebrador del abastecimiento hidráulico del actual complejo de baños.A wide number of archaeological discoveries have been made in the Roman healing Spa of Lugo, located at the foot of the city, which has been modernised and can be visited nowadays. However, one of the least well-known aspects of this Roman building is the complex medicinal mineral water supply system, as it has been reused over time. To solve this problem, our study draws up an initial description and analysis of this Roman hydraulic network, possible thanks to its excellent conservation. The efficiency of this Roman structure has been proved, because it is still working and, even after two thousand years of use, it continues to be the heart of the water supply of the current spa

Las uvas de la unión. Organización y movilización campesina en la vitivinicultura gallega: el Ribeiro ourensano, 1880-1936

Se realiza una aproximación cualitativa a los actores sociopoliticos que participaron en el movimiento agrarista de la comarca vitivinicola más emblemática de Galicia, en un escenario económico marcado por las costosas inversiones en insumos, a consecuencia de la filoxera, y la emigración ultramarina como última estrategia reproductiva del campesinado local, que gestionaba explotaciones insuficientes. Centraremos nuestra atención en la respuesta colectiva de los vitivinicultores, organizados en sociedades agrarias y sindicatos católicos que estuvieron dirigidos, al principio, por propietarios acomodados y oriorizaron la defensa del mercado del vino del Ribeiro frente a la competencia fraudulenta de vino `matute` Estas organizaciones campesinas desafiaron el monopolio político de las elites locales, en lo referente a la supresión de las rentas forales y la arbitrariedad de la administración municipal, convirtiéndose en interlocutores privilegiados de los representantes politicos del distrito. Estudiaremos también, las múltiples dificultades de los pequeños vitivinicultores y las fuentes del poder social y político de los propietarios acomodados y grandes arrendatarios, que controlaban las redes microsociales como oferentes de préstamos, favores y jornadas de trabajo.The article qualitatively approaches the involvement of socio-political stakeholders in the land-reform movement in the most representative vineyard region of Galicia. The economic scenario was characterized by the existence of expensive investments in inputs, due to the phylloxera crisis, as well as to the wide-scale migration overseas, considered by local peasantry as a complementary reproductive strategy. Focus is placed on the collective answers implemented by vineyard peasants, organized in agrarian associations and Catholic trade-unions. These organizations were led at the beginning by well-off landowners, who focused on defending the Ribeiro wine market against competition from adulterated wine from outside. The peasant associations challenged the political monopoly of local elites and became privileged middlemen between the peasantry and the parliamentarians elected by the local districts. Emphasis is also placed on the manifold difficulties suffered by small-holding peasants, as well as on the sources of social and political power of landowners, who kept control of resources at the micro-social level, including privileges, credits and day labourers

What do we mean when we talk about Roman healing spas? The Roman architecture in bathing buildings using mineralmedicinal water in Hispania

La presencia de edificios vinculados al aprovechamiento y al uso de aguas mineromedicinales es un hecho constatado y bien conocido en todo el Imperio Romano. Sin embargo, con frecuencia estos edificios antiguos aparecen en la bibliografía descritos junto a los establecimientos termales de agua común sin que se planteen, en la mayoría de los casos, elementos de diferenciación como los que creemos existen en estos edificios, dada su principal funcionalidad (salutífera) y su significado último (religioso). Bajo esa premisa, consideramos necesario hacer una revisión arquitectónica y organizativa de estos complejos termales, partiendo de un ámbito concreto y delimitado: la Península Ibérica, como ejemplo extrapolable y comparable con otros ámbitos del Occidente del Imperio Romano.The existence of Roman baths in which mineral-medicinal waters were used is a well-known reality around the Roman Empire. Nevertheless, these establishments are usually described in bibliography in the same way as Roman spas using common water in spite of their substantial differences related to their health and religious meanings. In order to improve our knowledge on this subject, it is necessary to review the architecture and organization of these healing spas. As a first step, this research undertakes the study of the best known Roman buildings of Hispania allowing us to compare them with other areas of the Western Roman Empire

Sources for the study of ancient thermalism: a new proposal for editing and translation

En el presente artículo presentamos un nuevo proyecto interdisciplinar consistente en una colección de textos, en formato digital, que recogerá las fuentes griegas y latinas sobre el fenómeno del termalismo mineromedicinal antiguo. La colección permitirá aunar, por primera vez, distintos tipos de fuentes en una única publicación, así como reunir, analizar y ampliar de forma ágil el trabajo ya existente en la bibliografía sobre el tema desde el punto de vista filológico, histórico, arqueológico y epigráfico. Se dará así acceso directo a las fuentes originales para el estudio del termalismo antiguo con una visión crítica, innovadora y actualizada, algo que la comunidad de investigadores sobre el tema viene reclamando desde hace tiempo. Esta nueva herramienta de trabajo será accesible online para todos los interesados en la materia, con una clara pretensión de continuidad y duración, pero siempre respaldada por criterios científicos y especializados, y en constante revisión.This article presents a new interdisciplinary project for compiling a digital collection of Greek and Latin sources dealing with ancient mineral-medicinal thermalism. For the first time ever, the project bring together different types of historical and textual sources in a single publication, and also gather, analyse and expand on previous bibliographic attempts on this subject from the philological, historical, archaeological, and ephigraphic perspective. The collection will provide direct access to original sources for the study of ancient thermalism including translations into English and Spanish with a critical, innovative, and updated vision, meeting a long-standing demand by the community of researchers in this area. This new tool will be accessible online for everyone interested in this topic, and aims for both continuity and permanence, while always being endorsed by scientific and specialized criteria, and in constant review

Roman spas in Hispania. A review and update of the main archaeological sites with mineral and medicinal water in Spain

Como paso previo a la realización de un monográfico sobre el significado de las aguas mineromedicinales y su explotación en Hispania desde un punto de vista principalmente arquitectónico y funcional, hemos considerado interesante presentar una primera aproximación al tema a partir del análisis de aquellos yacimientos españoles que en la bibliografía específica y general aparecen identificados como enclaves de aguas minerales y/o termales de explotación en época romana. De esa forma, planteamos la revisión crítica de los datos existentes sobre esos yacimientos, con la clara convicción de la necesidad de abordar este tema desde una óptica de conjunto que permita reconocer la singularidad específica del uso y aprovechamiento de este recurso en el mundo antiguo, fundamentalmente condicionada por las características funcionales y cultuales asociadas a este tipo de agua.In a previous stage to the preparation of a monograph on the significance and exploitation of mineral medicinal water in Hispania, mainly from an architectonical and functional point of view, we have proposed an initial approach to this subject based on a complete revision about the main Roman archaeological sites with mineral and thermal waters in Spain included in the specific and general bibliography. In this way, it is showed a sampler of these sites while recognizing the need to address this topic with an overall vision. This will allow us to show the diversity of information available and the importance of an exhaustive study about the specific complexity of this resource in the Ancient World, which, opposite to common water, is conditioned by topographical, functional and religious aspects associated with these springs

An ethical-legal approach» is beyond the mere analysis of the concept and the bases of a technique that has arisen thanks to the technological advances that have led to the cohesion between disciplines and topics such as neuroscience and marketing. Despite its youth, neuromarketing has been the subject of a study mainly about its work or its techniques, however, there is no unanimity about the creation of the guidelines of behavior or the norms that act in the face of new dangers and ethical commitments that may arise due to fraudulent use. The objective of this essay is to conclude, once analyzed the possible ethical violations and moral concerns that cause their use in society, an effective regulation route.«El neuromarketing. Ao mesmo tempo que as t?cnicas de fabrico e montagem de estruturas met?licas evolu?ram, desenvolveram-se tamb?m exig?ncias de fiscaliza??o e controlo da execu??o destas estruturas com o objetivo de um produto final aprimorado. O objetivo deste trabalho ? cruzar estes dois vetores, e estabelecer um contributo nos procedimentos de fiscaliza??o da execu??o de estruturas met?licas, mais focado no controlo de conformidade aplicado ao processo construtivo. Neste trabalho come?a-se por contextualizar as estruturas met?licas face ao cen?rio normativo atual e sua evolu??o, tentando de seguida dar um contributo nos procedimentos para ajudar um diretor de obra a executar o seu trabalho corretamente. Atualmente a atividade da fiscaliza??o de obra extrapola esta dimens?o, atrav?s de mecanismos de atua??o preventiva que tornam esta necessidade de executar a??es corretivas sobre trabalhos executados que apresentem defici?ncias. A melhor forma de aplicar este sistema preventivo ? atrav?s de check-lists, para cada uma das atividades a executar durante o processo construtivo, de modo a que o t?cnico fiscal possua, n?o s? elementos fi?veis e parametrizados de inspe??o e ensaio, mas tamb?m tecnicamente abrangentes, que lhe permitam conquistar o dom?nio t?cnico das tarefas e o respeito da entidade executante. My main objective was to develop my knowledge in the area of Steel Construction and Construction Management, while the technical team, responsible for part of studies and proposals, of the company Metaloviana, S.A. The steel construction are nowadays a solution for different kind of construction, you can build a simple frame to very complex bridge. At same time as the fabrication and mounting methods, for steel construction evolved, developed as well the requirements of oversight and control of execution of these structures with the main goal to get a final quality product. The objective of this work is to cross this two vectors and establish a manual of procedures for monitoring the implementation of steel structures.
