De forma paralela y como telón de fondo, este texto aborda cuestiones generales sobre el surgimiento de la pintura en estas comunidades andinas ecuatorianas, sobre las modificaciones que este nuevo recurso desató a nivel socioeconómicoThe goal of this work is to reflect on the role that the Tigua painting has played on the development of the Ecuadorian Andean indigenous identity discourse. This writing examines the discursive process present on these paintings from the start of this form of art to present day. To this end, three stages of the painting are defined: Pre-Genre, Genre, Post-Genre. The analysis of the technical and thematic features that define and differentiate these stages enables reflections about the transformation of the Andean indigenous identities. Alongside, as a backdrop, this text addresses general issues about the emergence of painting in these Ecuadorian Andean communities, the modifications that this new resource triggered on a socioeconomic level, and the main role played by the “external actors” in the whole process

Analyzing First-Person Stories Based on Socializing, Eating and Sedentary Patterns

First-person stories can be analyzed by means of egocentric pictures acquired throughout the whole active day with wearable cameras. This manuscript presents an egocentric dataset with more than 45,000 pictures from four people in different environments such as working or studying. All the images were manually labeled to identify three patterns of interest regarding people's lifestyle: socializing, eating and sedentary. Additionally, two different approaches are proposed to classify egocentric images into one of the 12 target categories defined to characterize these three patterns. The approaches are based on machine learning and deep learning techniques, including traditional classifiers and state-of-art convolutional neural networks. The experimental results obtained when applying these methods to the egocentric dataset demonstrated their adequacy for the problem at hand.Comment: Accepted at First International Workshop on Social Signal Processing and Beyond, 19th International Conference on Image Analysis and Processing (ICIAP), September 201

Cancer continues to be among the leading causes of death worldwide. In 2018, there were approximately 9.6 million cancer deaths, just in the United States alone, there were 1.7 million new cancer cases and 600,000 deaths. That is why, there is an urgent need for better ways to battle cancer. Therefore, the goal of this project is to create a nanobiosensor which would have T1 and T2 based imaging capabilities to measure cancer enzymatic activity. The diagnostic tool would be useful to differentiate between benign and malignant tumors in-vivo and to quantify the effect of cancer treatments, such as chemo- and radiation- therapy. The biosensor is composed of a small (2-3 nm) Fe2O3 nanoparticle, which is a good T1 contrast agent, and a large (~50 nm) magnetic Fe/Fe3O4 nanoparticle, which is a good T2 contrast agent, linked via a consensus caspase sequence. The synthesis and characterization of the biosensor will be discussed

In the present work a Spanish local variety of Cyperus esculentus (chufa Appellation of origin Spanish province of Valencia) was studied. The main phenolic compound profile of chufas was obtained using ultra high performance liquid chromatography coupled to a quadrupole-timeof-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC/ESI-Q-TOF-MS). The assayed chromatographic method enables a rapid and extraordinary efficient separation, allowing easy identification of the three main phenolic compound groups present in the methanolic extracts: phenylethanoids, phenylpropanoids and flavonoids. We also investigated, for the characterization of some other compounds, the possibility of using of in-source fragmentation (ISF) with electrospray ionization (ESI) followed by product ion scan in the QTOF mass spectrometer system. This approach is based on the elucidation of the various fragmentation pathways by further dissociation of each fragment ion in the ion spectrum. This can be achieved predominately, by combining fragmentor voltage induced dissociation (in-source fragmentation IS-CID) with subsequent collision-induced dissociation (CID). 37 compounds (3 amino acids and derivatives, 6 phenolic acids and derivatives, 16 flavonoids, and 8 fatty acids) were either unambiguously indentified or tentatively characterized. One, N-malonyl-Ltryptophan, identified for the first time in tigernut.Máster Universitario en Descubrimiento de Fármaco

MRTF/SRF-dependent transcriptional regulation for bleb-associated cell invasion and entosis

Non-apoptotic plasma membrane blebbing occurs during cell motility and tumor spread in several human malignancies. Bleb dynamics are regulated through rearrangement of the cortical actin cytoskeleton and its associated proteins. Our previous studies reported the importance of plasma membrane blebbing by the formin mDia1 in providing the driving force for entotic invasion of one cell into its neighbouring cell. Entosis is a form of homotypic cell-in-cell invasion, in which low cellular adhesion induces ROCK- and actomyosin-dependent invasion. The physiological consequences of this process are not well-understood. Entotic invasion has been suggested to induce tumor promoting effects, while other studies supported a tumor suppressor role. Although the molecular requirements and actin-binding proteins controlling bleb dynamics are well characterized, the importance of a potential transcriptional regulation underlying sustained, long-term blebbing as observed during cancer cell or entotic invasion has not been studied. Given the direct association between the Serum Response Factor (SRF) coactivator Myocardin-Related Transcription Factor (MRTF-A) and actin dynamics, we addressed the impact of the MRTF/SRF transcriptional pathway for plasma membrane blebbing and bleb-associated entotic invasion. In this study, we find that cortical contractility during plasma membrane blebbing is tightly associated to dynamic MRTF cytoplasmic-nuclear shuttling. Our findings reveal that not only the dynamics of plasma membrane blebs depend on MRTF/SRF, but also entotic invasion. Interestingly, we found that MRTF/SRF-dependent upregulation of the metastasis associated ERM protein Ezrin is fundamental for non-apoptotic blebbing and entotic invasion. Thus, our results highlight a novel mechanism, by which the actin-dependent transcription factor MRTF controls Ezrin expression to facilitate bleb-associated invasive motility. These findings may have important implications in understanding invasive motility as well as for future concepts targeting metastasis

In the last decade the media of the rose press, specially the one that is made and spread by the television, begins to be unmarked of that pleasant press, amused, white and slight that so many successes harvested through the magazines specialized in the middle of the last century. The spectacular turn of the present rose chronicle towards the pure yellow press nd junk TV even begins to worry to the own professionals about the sort. The pey practice of a profession without proper qualifications and the new wave of ruling personages, as well as the lack of personal ethics or the omission of the press norms, causes that journalism without doubt coarse and sensationalist who leads the shares of hearing with total impunity

Determinants of interest rate exposure of Spanish banking industry

Interest rate risk represents one of the key forms of financial risk faced by banks. It has given rise to an extensive body of research, mainly focused on the estimation of sensitivity of bank stock returns to changes in interest rates. However, the analysis of the sources of bank interest rate risk has received much less attention in the literature. The aim of this paper is to empirically investigate the main determinants of the interest rate exposure of Spanish commercial banks by using panel data methodology. The results indicate that interest rate exposure is systematically related to some bank-specific characteristics. In particular, a significant positive association is found between bank size, derivative activities, and proportion of loans to total assets and banks¿ interest rate exposure. In contrast, the proportion of deposits to total assets is significantly and negatively related to the level of bank¿s interest rate risk.
