Alejandro Sawa’s death and Ernesto Bark’s doubt: A supposed catalepsy that was fictionalized three times

However, bohemian life and many Sawa´s adventures are so attractive that not only his life, but also his death has been told by our best authors. His funeral wake has been recreated three times in Literature: The Tree of Science of Pio Baroja, Bohemian Lights of Valle-Inclán and The Masks of Hero of Juan Manuel de Prada. These works are intimately connected to each other and cross the boundary between reality and fiction. In this comparative study we want to discover what is true and what is false and explain why some characters appear in books, such as Ernesto Bark, who said not only that Sawa hadn´t died and it was a catalepsy case, but also that Sawa commited suicid

A procedure for computing the log canonical threshold of a binomial ideal

Producción CientíficaWe present a procedure for computing the log-canonical threshold of an arbitrary ideal generated by binomials and monomials. The computation of the log canonical threshold is reduced to the problem of computing the minimum of a function, which is defined in terms of the generators of the ideal. The minimum of this function is attained at some ray of a fan which only depends on the exponents of the monomials appearing in the generators of the idealMinisterio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (MTM2012-35849 / MTM2015-68524-P

Strengthening Ties to L2: Improving Secondary Students’ Attitudes through Dialogic Literary Gatherings.

Over the last decades, many efforts have been made to establish the Basque minority language as a normalized language in the Basque Country. Research has shown that language use, language proficiency and attitudes towards language are closely associated. Likewise, the benefit of interactive learning environments for improving language proficiency is well known. However, the effect of such environments on attitudes towards second languages (L2) has been less studied. This article presents a qualitative study that explores the extent to which the implementation of a particular dialogue-based classroom strategy, named Dialogic Literary Gatherings (DLGs), may transform secondary students’ attitudes towards Basque (L2). The DLGs were carried out with 46 secondary education students in the Basque Country. After implementing DLGs, teachers’ interviews and students’ focus groups were conducted and analysed inductively. Results show that participants reported changes in students’ attitudes towards Basque and they related these changes to the dialogical space they experienced during the DLGs, since this created affordances for them to engage in meaningful discussions when speaking in Basque. Implications of the study are discussed

    Embedded desingularization of toric varieties

We present a new method to achieve an embedded desingularization of a toric variety. Let WW be a regular toric variety defined by a fan Σ\Sigma and XWX\subset W be a toric embedding. We construct a finite sequence of combinatorial blowing-ups such that the final strict transforms XWX'\subset W' are regular and XX' has normal crossing with the exceptional divisor.Comment: Some comments have been corrected and references adde

Alejandro Sawa and San Peter´s successors Pio IX and Pio X, two popes who were admired by an anticlerical

It is said that Alejandro Sawa was anticlerical and it was shown in his books. However, he did not denigrate all priests. Researchers have not given importance to the first Sawa´s text, where the young writer spoke well about Holy Father Pio IX. Later, between 1904 and 1907, he wrote new chronicles in favor of Pio X. This research wants to demonstrate that not only those words are not a contradiction, but also Alejandro Sawa defends some popes and clerics´ behavior because of his criticism is against bad habits of all people.Alejandro Sawa. José Luis Alonso de Santos wrote Los Conserjes De San Felipe (Cadiz 1812) in 2012. In that play we can see traditional Spanish elements that appear in Literature many times, such as liberalism, Lope de Vega´s literary resources, the word “intrahistoria”, whose creator was Unamuno, the word “esperpento”, that was defined by Valle-Inclan, or Goya´s opinion about the war.
