Intergenerational social mobility in Spain between 1956 and 2011: the role of educational expansion and economic modernisation in a late industrialised country

This article explores intergenerational class mobility patterns and the role played by education in Spain usingcounterfactuals. Both men and women born from 1926 to 1981 are analysed, meaning the study covers a periodof profound economic and educational advances in a late-industrialised country. The results suggest that, amongthe cohorts born in the 1970s, men have experienced a slight increase in socialfluidity, while women haveexperienced a substantial increase that seems partially driven by their massively increased access to routine non-manual positions independent of their social origins. Inequality of educational opportunities and class returns toeducation have declined, whereas the direct effect of social origins (DESO) has remained constant for men andhas decreased considerably for women. The counterfactual analysis shows that the slight increase in socialfluidity for men is mainly driven by educational expansion. Evaluación económica asociada al traslado de los residuos sólidos urbanos de la ciudad de Pereira al relleno sanitario "La Esmeralda" de la ciudad de Manizales

La gestión integral de residuos sólidos en Colombia pretende integrar todas las actividades asociadas con el manejo de residuos de manera que sea posible administrarlos, haciéndolos compatibles en un contexto ambiental y social, buscando así reducir los impactos ambientales negativos a la salud humana y el ambiente, además de la valoración y aprovechamiento de estos. En este marco se pretende evaluarel impacto económico y ambiental sobre la tarifa asociado al traslado de los residuos sólidos urbanos de la ciudad de Pereira a la ciudad de Manizales por medio de la metodología (Capacidad a Pagar Y Disponibilidad a Pagar que determina el incremento de la tarifa entre $1000-$5000 del servicio público de aseo); que fue aplicada a los usuarios de la ciudad de Pereira, determinando así, que los usuarios están dispuestos a pagar una tarifa mayor a la actual por el traslado de los residuos sólidos urbanos para disminuir un poco el impacto ambiental del relleno sanitario “la Glorita”.The integrated waste management in Colombia aims to integrate all activities associated with waste management and make possible to administer, making them compatible with a social and environmental context, looking to reduce the negative impacts to human health and to the environment, as well the evaluation and use thereof. This framework aims was to evaluate the economic and environmental impact on the fee associated with the transfer of solid waste from the city of Pereira to Manizales through the methodology (ability to pay and willingness to pay, that determines the increase rate between $1000 -$ 5000 public service); this methodology was applied to users in the city of Pereira, thus determining which users are willing to pay a higher rate to the current by the transfer of solid waste to reduce some environmental impacts of the Glorita landfill

Including Emotional Intelligence in the Practicum Subject Syllabus at Uniminuto

To explore the importance of Emotional Intelligence in pre- service English teachers at Uniminuto university.This qualitative exploratory research study attempts to understand the importance of Emotional Intelligence for pre-service English teachers in a private university. The main objective of this study is to explore the importance of Emotional Intelligence in pre- service English teachers at Uniminuto university as they face mainly five negative emotions in their practicum field. By following an exploratory research method, three different instruments (semi structured interviews, a questionnaire, and a workshop) addressed to three different actors (the director and coordinator of the program, teachers and pre-service English teachers) were conducted in order to determine whether or not Emotional Intelligence is relevant in the formation process in the practicum pre-service teachers face.This qualitative exploratory research study attempts to understand the importance of Emotional Intelligence for pre-service English teachers in a private university. The main objective of this study is to explore the importance of Emotional Intelligence in pre- service English teachers at Uniminuto university as they face mainly five negative emotions in their practicum field. Thus, the teachers in charge of the Practicum space, the director and coordinator took a semi- structured interview with different questions about the practicum of being English teachers and the support the Bachelor Program provides to students who attend the practicum in terms of dealing with negative emotions. Besides, a questionnaire was conducted to pre-service English teachers in order to comprehend if the problem exists. Also, a preliminary intervention to the pre-service English teachers was carried out with the aim of giving a general knowledge about Emotional Intelligence and understand if they consider this knowledge useful. Findings show that the lack of knowledge about Emotional Intelligence is evidenced and occurs because pre-service English teachers do not know how to manage and control those five negative emotions that might appear during their performance in the practicum

Rutas metodológicas para la redimensión de la actuación de las bibliotecas públicas de La Habana

Objective. To present a research methodology oriented to re-dimensioning the performance of municipal public libraries in communities of The Havana, Cuba. Design/Methodology/Approach. The research process was characterized by a mixed methodology and a multiple triangulation approach. Results/Discussion. The ten phases, in which the research process was materialized, were presented through quantitative and qualitative methods and techniques. Conclusions. Multi-case study as an approach, mixed-qualitative research as a strategy and a multiple triangulation design conformed a relevant methodological strategy. Originality/Value. In Cuba, and particularly in Havana, municipal public libraries do not usually conduct qualitative or mixed researches concerning to its performance. For this reason, the exposition about the research experience in the scenario of Havana municipal public libraries in the period 2013-2016 was considered as pertinent and necessary

Influence of the Compaction Pressure and Sintering Temperature on the Mechanical Properties of Porous Titanium for Biomedical Applications

In the present work, the use of porous titanium is proposed as a solution to the difference in stiffness between the implant and bone tissue, avoiding the bone resorption. Conventional powder metallurgical technique is an industrially established route for fabrication of this type of material. The results are discussed in terms of the influence of compaction pressure and sintering temperature on the porosity (volumetric fraction, size, and morphology) and the quality of the sintering necks. A very good agreement between the predicted values obtained using a simple 2D finite element model, the experimental uniaxial compression behavior, and the analytical model proposed by Nielsen, has been found for both the Young’s modulus and the yield strength. The porous samples obtained by the loose sintering technique and using temperatures between 1000 °C −1100 °C (about 40% of total porosity) are recommended for achieving a suitable biomechanical behavior for cortical bone partial replacement.Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of the State General Administration of Spain grant MAT2015-71284-

Proyecciones estratégicas en bibliotecas públicas: qué, cómo y para qué. Un estudio comparativo

Objective. To determine convergence points regarding strategic projections of public libraries in Bellingham, Chicago (United States), Calgary, London (Canada), Scotland, Finland, Ireland and Victoria (Australia). Design/Methodology/Approach. The research was performed by means of the documentary analysis of relevant articles on strategic management, and the qualitative content analysis of strategic reports regarding the performances of public libraries in the aforementioned contexts. Results/Discussion. There were noted the points of contact between the contemporary functions of public libraries and their projections in order to benefit their communities. Conclusions. Strategic management must be a steady activity in public libraries. The presence and materialization of strategic projections lead public libraries to satisfy the informational and cultural needs, such as the benefits of their communities. Originality/Value. The analysis of eight strategic public library projections in different contexts enable us to suggest points of convergence that might be relevant to other public libraries, and researchers involved in such strategic management process
