Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus are vectors for several emerging arboviruses including Zika, chikungunya and dengue. Both mosquitoes are found along the Rio Grande River in South Texas, along the border between Mexico and the United States of America. These mosquito species typically reside near human settlements. A preventative measure public health official use to help halt the spread of diseases is by controlling vector population with the use of insecticides, but as temperature vary, and with the constant exposure to commonly used insecticides, mosquitoes from South Texas may be developing a resistance to the insecticides. Resistance to insecticides may potentially vary in Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus mosquitoes as due to the variation in their rearing temperature. To test this, I examined the influence of exposing adult mosquitos of Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus following emergence to different temperatures on their susceptibility to different insecticides. I hypothesized that adults maintained at high temperatures would show decreased resistance to insecticides relative to lower temperatures. Colony mosquitoes were hatched, reared to adulthood, and then maintained in varying temperature regimes (22.58, 30.55 and 36˚C) that reflect seasonal temperatures in South Texas. Insecticide resistance to permethrin and deltamethrin was assessed using the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Bottle Bioassay method. Adult females were tested between 5 and 10 days after emergence. World Health Organization guidelines were used to classify the population as susceptible at the diagnostic time (DT) of 30 min and the overall time of 2 hours. Mosquitoes kept at different temperatures demonstrated differential susceptibility to insecticides. Low temperatures (22.58˚C) exposed mosquitoes had increased resistance to insecticides in both species, although specific insecticides varied in their efficacy. Susceptibility also varied between the mosquito species and insecticides at the mid and high temperature treatments. These results have important implications for public health officials to incorporate temperature in their decision-making process

Ambos recorridos interrelacionados permitirán realizar un contrapunto entre dos modos diferentes de construcción de sentido frente a lo patrimonial, así como también algunas reflexiones metodológicas y de géneroWhen, from the social sciences, we inquired about the articulation between State and society the complexity of the problem seems to exceed any approach. However, here we will focus on how certain regulations and state policies acquire and deploy meanings in the subjects’ daily lives. We specifically propose a dialogue between two anthropological research: on the one hand fieldwork with textiles / weavers and, on the other hand, the archaeological heritage in the department Iglesia, Province of San Juan. Analyze both perspectives in relationship, will also allow two different ways of constructing meaning in relation to heritage and some reflections about methodology and gender.Fil: Biasatti, Soledad. Domestic animals in the household environment have the potential to affect a child's carriage of zoonotic enteric pathogens and risk of diarrhea. This study examines the risk factors associated with pediatric diarrhea and carriage of zoonotic enteric pathogens among children living in communities where smallholder livestock production is prevalent. We conducted an observational study of children younger than 5 years that included the analysis of child (n = 306) and animal (n = 480) fecal samples for Campylobacter spp., atypical enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, Salmonella spp., Yersinia spp., Cryptosporidium parvum, and Giardia lamblia. Among these seven pathogens, Giardia was the most commonly identified pathogen among children and animals in the same household, most of which was found in child-dog pairs. Campylobacter spp. was also relatively common within households, particularly among child-chicken and child-guinea pig pairs. We used multivariable Poisson regression models to assess risk factors associated with a child being positive for at least one zoonotic enteric pathogen or having diarrhea during the last week. Children who interacted with domestic animals-a behavior reported by nearly three-quarters of households owning animals-were at an increased risk of colonization with at least one zoonotic enteric pathogen (prevalence ratio [PR] = 1.56, 95% CI: 1.00-2.42). The risk of diarrhea in the last seven days was elevated but not statistically significant (PR = 2.27, CI: 0.91, 5.67). Interventions that aim to reduce pediatric exposures to enteric pathogens will likely need to be incorporated with approaches that remove animal fecal contamination from the domestic environment and encourage behavior change aimed at reducing children's contact with animal feces through diverse exposure pathways

This research delves into the use of simulation games as a learning tool in logistics education, with a focus on the Logistics Simulator and Production Game Simulator. Through an analysis of these two cases, relevant findings were uncovered. Firstly, simulation games can recreate concrete experiences, allowing students to engage with challenging problems in a practical manner. In addition, simulation games offer a platform for experimentation with diverse scenarios, enabling students to hone their decision-making skills in a safe environment. Furthermore, the degree of motivation and engagement exhibited by students was found to be positively correlated with their experience gained through simulators. However, while the results obtained from the simulator were associated with student motivation and engagement, the study did not yield conclusive evidence in terms of student learning outcomes. The findings underscore the significance of employing strategies that enhance student motivation and support deep learning, thereby enabling students to apply and transfer knowledge to new situations. Notably, simulation games have great potential in logistics education as they facilitate faster and more enjoyable comprehension of key decision-making factors. Nevertheless, limitations of this study include the small sample size in both cases, which restricts generalizability, and the lack of consideration for sociodemographic factors in the baseline survey. Future research should address these limitations for more reliable findings on the specific needs of students in game-based and experiential learning contexts

El futuro de la evaluación en la educación superior

The pending challenge of assessment in higher education, although also at other educational levels, continues to be its effective link with student learning. Students' strategic learning could and should be achieved by the assessment. This paper arises from the attempt to answer the question about what would be the future of assessment in higher education and it is presented under the form of a collaborative text that was elaborated by all the authors who sign it. This contribution offers a joint reflection by various authors from different contexts and regions on three essential aspects. First, the need for reflection and a change in assessment based on current trends that are demonstrating their timeliness and validity is highlighted. A second issue focuses on the value of technology for the changes that are taking place on assessment, but as long as it adapts to its principles and, therefore, does not imply a return to the last century under the dominance of models today widely overcome. Together with the use of technology-enhanced assessment, the interrelationship between assessment and learning implies to redesign assessment practices, to incorporate proposals from the fields of social justice and sustainable assessment, the design of authentic assessment tasks, to promote feedback and encourage students’ participation.
