ABSTRACT: The internationalization is explained by a growing and continuously developing process of a company and its operations with other countries out of their origin. In the context of globalization, in which changes take place with enormous velocity and are rapidly disseminated, the internationalization of corporations are a natural result, or even an unavoidable outcome to guarantee competitiveness. More and more companies have to adapt and react to the new challenges they face in the markets they operate and cannot just be “present” at these markets. Internationalization is a complex process and a small mistake can lead to a complete failure. Accordingly, companies should adopt certain procedures in order to minimize the risks. Thus, when a company decides to internationalize, it must decide what market to serve to and how to organize its activities abroad. The purpose of this work is to analyze the internationalization of EvoBus following a case study approach in order to understand the strategies and the internationalization process used by the company

This study aims to test whether the student's double commitment with the University and the course have a significant impact on intentions to leave the university and see which of the two types of commitment has greater predictive power of early school leavers in higher education. To this end, the following hypotheses were placed: (1) Commitment to the University has a negative impact on turnover intentions of students; (2) - The Commitment to Course has a negative impact on student’s turnover Intentions. The following exploratory question was placed: What kind of commitment will have greater impact on turnover intentions of the students: The commitment to the University or the Commitment to the course? The sample consisted of 238 students from various Portuguese universities. The study found a negative and significant impact of both types of commitment on the intentions to leave the university and that is the commitment to the university that weighs more as a predictor variable. We conclude that the double organizational commitment applied to university context proved to be an important contribution to a better understanding of this phenomenon

Objective: To evaluate the knowledge of patients treated in a public University concerning dental avulsion and its emergency first-aid management. Material and Methods: Three hundred patients were invited to answer a questionnaire about demographic characteristics, attitude and knowledge of first-aid management of dental avulsion. Chi-square test was used to assess the association between knowledge about dental replantation and education level. Results: Female gender (66.7%) aged from 31 to 40 years (31.3%) with high school education (50.3%) predominated among all the participants. It was not found a difference between education level and management of avulsed permanent teeth (p=0.076), and 66% of the respondents were not able to do the replantation. In relation to the management of avulsed tooth, 42.7% of the respondents would brush the tooth and if the replantation was not possible, most of them would choose inappropriate media for storage. The association between the storage medium and educational level showed to be statistically significant (p=0.043). Conclusion: It was possible to notice the lack of knowledge about this subject, and it could result in the worst prognosis. In avulsion cases, the subsequent root resorptions may lead to the loss of the child's tooth. It is important to implement educational campaigns to spread knowledge and improve success rates of permanent avulsed teeth

Published by BMJ.Objective: The objective of this paper was to evaluate the structural validity and convergent validity of the first Portuguese version of the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Settings: The data sets come from two studies conducted in Portugal, respectively, from the Resilience Effect in Coping with Trauma (RECT) project and from the Health Impact Assessment of Employment Strategies (HIAES) project. Participants: The sample is composed of 476 participants from the RECT project and 405 participants from the HIAES project. In both projects, convenience samples were used. Measures: The original CD-RISC items were translated to Portuguese and were used in a survey along with additional psychosocial and biomedical measures. Results: Independent exploratory factorial analysis (EFA) with each of the two samples revealed that the best solution in both samples had three factors consistent with the self-efficacy, spirituality and social support factors from the original scale. A Confirmatory factor analysis using the two samples together and specifying the three factors from the EFA revealed a good overall fit and, comparatively, better fit than a model specified with the five factors from the original scale. The study of the convergent validity revealed that bivariate correlations between the three factors and validated measures of stress, life satisfaction, mental health and physical health are globally consistent with previous research. Conclusions: This study makes available to the broad Community of Portuguese Language Countries a validated measure of resilience extensively used for research and intervention. The results encourage future studies using this translated version of CD-RISC to explore further the three-factor structure found here and to test the convergent validity with new samples. The Health Impact Assessment of Employment Strategies project was funded by the Office of the High Commissioner for Health followed by the General Health Direction.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This is an open access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original author and source are credited.Three infant regulatory behavior patterns have been identified during the Face-to-Face Still-Face paradigm (FFSF) in prior research samples: a Social-Positive Oriented pattern (i.e., infants exhibit predominantly positive social engagement), a Distressed-Inconsolable pattern (i.e., infants display conspicuous negative affect that persists or increases across FFSF episodes), and a Self-Comfort Oriented pattern (e.g., infants primarily engage in self-comforting behaviors such as thumb-sucking). However, few studies have examined these patterns outside US and European countries or evaluated potential cross-country differences in these patterns. In this study, we compared the regulatory behavior patterns of 74 Brazilian and 124 Portuguese infants in the FFSF at 3 months of age, and evaluated their links to demographic and birth variables. The prevalence of the three regulatory patterns varied by country. The most frequent pattern in the Portuguese sample was the Social-Positive Oriented, followed by the Distressed-Inconsolable and the Self-Comfort Oriented. However, in the Brazilian sample, the Distressed-Inconsolable pattern was the most prevalent, followed by the Social-Positive Oriented and the Self-Comfort Oriented. Moreover, in the Brazilian sample, familial SES was higher among infants with a Social-Positive pattern whereas 1st-minute Apgar scores were lower among Portuguese infants with a Distressed-Inconsolable Oriented pattern of regulatory behavior. In each sample, Social Positive pattern of regulatory behavior was associated with maternal sensitivity, Self-Comfort Oriented pattern of regulatory behavior with maternal control, and Distressed-Inconsolable pattern with maternal unresponsivity.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Multiple sclerosis under the age of ten: the challenge of a rare diagnosis in a special population – a case series

    Get PDF
IntroductionMultiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory demyelinating and degenerative disease of the central nervous system which, when it begins before the age of 18, is defined as paediatric MS. Most common clinical presentations include long tract involvement, brainstem/cerebellum syndromes, optic neuritis and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. Paediatric-onset MS typically has a more inflammatory-active course and a higher lesion burden in imaging studies, but an extensive post-relapse recovery, with a slower long-term disability progression. The first demyelinating clinical attack occurs before 10 years old in less than 1% of patients, and, in this special population, the condition has particularities in clinical presentation, differential diagnosis, diagnostic assessment, current treatment options and outcome.Clinical casesWe present the cases of four Caucasian children (2 girls) diagnosed with relapsing–remitting MS before the age of ten, with a mean age at the time of the first relapse of 7.4 ± 2.4 years. Clinical presentation included optic neuritis, myelitis, brainstem syndrome, and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis. Baseline MRI identified several lesions, frequently large and ill-defined. Two patients were included in clinical trials and two patients remain in clinical and imaging surveillance.ConclusionDiagnosis of MS before the age of 10 years is rare, but it has significant long-term physical and cognitive consequences, as well as a substantial impact on the current and future quality of life of the child and family. Early and correct diagnosis is essential. Prospective, randomized, large cohort studies are needed to assess the efficacy and safety of disease-modifying treatments in children under the age of ten
