From the theoretical approach of Political Communication, this article studies the activity of the profiles of media actors (media, journalists and communicators) who participated in the discussions on Twitter during the last intermediate elections in Mexico in 2015. A quantitative analysis of the case was made from a methodological scheme called Top Discussion Indicator (Percastre-Mendizábal, Pont-Sorribes, Codina, 2017), which allowed obtaining a significant sample of the messages generated during the day of biggest level of interactions in the legal campaign period. As the main contributions to the field of study, this article analyzes the discursive interrelationships between one of the main classical actors of Political Communication (Wolton, 1989) in the space of digital social networks; in addition to the empirical application of a sample selection model of political discussions in a microblogging network such as Twitter

On Sunday, June 26 (26J), general elections will be held for the second time in Spain. This is the result of the impossibility of an agreement to be part of the political forces in the parliament, product of the general elections of December 20, 2015 (20D). Once the electoral process of 20D was concluded, the Cortes Generales were integrated and the impossibility of establishing a government agreement, the Courts were dissolved and a new electoral fair was convened. More than a year elapsed for the repetition of the elections on 26J, as a result of a process that began the month of June 2015 with the official call for the elections of 20D, more than a year ago; a process that still does not end

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyse gender differences in neuromuscular behaviour of the gastrocnemius and vastus lateralis during the take-off phase of a countermovement jump (CMJ), using direct measures (ground reaction forces, muscle activity and dynamic ultrasound). METHODS: Sixty-four young adults (aged 18-25 years) participated voluntarily in this study, 35 men and 29 women. The firing of the trigger allowed obtainment of data collection vertical ground reaction forces (GRF), surface electromyography activity (sEMG) and dynamic ultrasound gastrocnemius of both legs. RESULTS: Statistically significant gender differences were observed in the jump performance, which appear to be based on differences in muscle architecture and the electrical activation of the gastrocnemius muscles and vastus lateralis. So while men developed greater peak power, velocity take-offs and jump heights, jump kinetics compared to women, women also required a higher electrical activity to develop lower power values. Additionally, the men had higher values pennation angles and muscle thickness than women. CONCLUSION: Men show higher performance of the jump test than women, due to significant statistical differences in the values of muscle architecture (pennation angle and thickness muscle), lower Neural Efficiency Index and a higher amount of sEMG activity per second during the take-off phase of a CMJ.Actividad Física y Deport

Modeling Sitagliptin Effect on Dipeptidyl Peptidase 4 (DPP4) Activity in Adults with Hematological Malignancies After Umbilical Cord Blood (UCB) Hematopoietic Cell Transplant (HCT)

Background and Objectives— Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP4) inhibition is a potential strategy to increase the engraftment rate of hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. A recent clinical trial using sitagliptin, a DPP4 inhibitor approved for type 2 diabetes mellitus, has shown to be a promising approach in adults with hematological malignancies after umbilical cord blood (UCB) hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT). Based on data from this clinical trial, a semi-mechanistic model was developed to simultaneously describe DPP4 activity after multiple doses of sitagliptin in subjects with hematological malignancies after a single-unit UCB HCT. Methods— The clinical study included 24 patients that received myeloablative conditioning followed by 4 oral sitagliptin 600mg with single-unit UCB HCT. Using a nonlinear mixed effects approach, a semi-mechanistic pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model was developed to describe DPP4 activity from this trial data using NONMEM 7.2. The model was used to drive Monte-Carlo simulations to probe various dosage schedules and the attendant DPP4 response. Results— The disposition of sitagliptin in plasma was best described by a 2-compartment model. The relationship between sitagliptin concentration and DPP4 activity was best described by an indirect response model with a negative feedback loop. Simulations showed that twice a day or three times a day dosage schedules were superior to once daily schedule for maximal DPP4 inhibition at the lowest sitagliptin exposure. Conclusion— This study provides the first pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model of sitagliptin in the context of HCT, and provides a valuable tool for exploration of optimal dosing regimens, critical for improving time to engraftment in patients after UCB HCT

Expression of TCRγδ receptor genes in jejunum mucosa of baby alpacas (Vicugna pacos)

The aim of this study was to determine the expression of TCRγδ receptor genes (gamma and delta) in the jejunal epithelium of 16 apparently healthy baby alpacas (2 to 47 days of age), by quantifying messenger RNA (mRNA) using specific primers. Jejunumsamples (2 cm long) were collected. Total mRNA of the medium portion of the jejunum acted as template for complementary DNA synthesis by reverse transcription (RT), followed by real-time PCR for the amplification and quantification of the mRNAs of the polypeptides that make up the gamma and delta chains of the TCR. The 2-ΔΔCt method was used for the relative mRNA quantification, using as calibrator two neonatal alpacas that had not consumed colostrum. The alpacas of 1, 2, 3 and >4 weeks of age expressed the gamma gene at 4.75, 6.78, 16.24 and 103.11 folds as expressed by the calibrator animals, respectively, and the delta gene was expressed at 9.43, 20.78, 25.08, and 146.46 folds, respectively. The results demonstrate that gamma and delta genes are increasingly expressed with age, and significantly from the fourth week of age (p<0.05), indicating that Tγδ lymphocytes increase in the intestinal mucosa with age

Cognitive impairment induced by delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol occurs through heteromers between cannabinoid CB1 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors

Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive compound of marijuana, induces numerous undesirable effects, including memory impairments, anxiety, and dependence. Conversely, THC also has potentially therapeutic effects, including analgesia, muscle relaxation, and neuroprotection. However, the mechanisms that dissociate these responses are still not known. Using mice lacking the serotonin receptor 5-HT2A, we revealed that the analgesic and amnesic effects of THC are independent of each other: while amnesia induced by THC disappears in the mutant mice, THC can still promote analgesia in these animals. In subsequent molecular studies, we showed that in specific brain regions involved in memory formation, the receptors for THC and the 5-HT2A receptors work together by physically interacting with each other. Experimentally interfering with this interaction prevented the memory deficits induced by THC, but not its analgesic properties. Our results highlight a novel mechanism by which the beneficial analgesic properties of THC can be dissociated from its cognitive side effects

Objectives We sought to estimate the prevalence of self-reported self-harm among adolescents identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) in Ghana, and compare self-reported personal and social adversities related to self-harm in this group to those in a random sample of heterosexual adolescents from the same locality. Results A total of 444 adolescents aged 13-21 years, comprising 74 LGBT adolescents and 370 heterosexual adolescents, provided data. The lifetime prevalence estimate of self-harm was higher in the LGBT group (47%) than the heterosexual group (23%). The LGBT group reported a higher rate of self-harm during the previous 12 months (45%), compared to the heterosexual group (18%). LGBT adolescents reported more alcohol and substance use and more personal social adversities, including various forms of victimisation, than heterosexual adolescents. They were no more likely to report difficulty in making and keeping friends or schoolwork problems than were heterosexual adolescents
