There is a broad consensus that the core of psychopathology implicated in personality disorders (PDs) consists of dysfunctions related to the self and chronic and inflexible interpersonal patterns. The design of treatments for PDs requires a high degree of complexity, the use of different interventions and special attention to the therapeutic alliance. Interpersonal-cognitive therapy (ICT) is a treatment option to consider because of specific characteristics consistent with some of the dysfunctional patterns involved in PDs. Therefore, the objective of this exhaustive analysis of two cases is to confirm the efficacy of ICT.  The results warrant the efficacy of ICT in achieving certain symptomatic changes, fundamental for the first sessions.

Examination of the significant interpersonal interactions that occur during psychotherapy is essential to understanding the change processes of psychotherapy. These interactions are micromoments that occur between therapist and patient, which yield therapeutic effects. Psychotherapy difficulties can be conceptualized by analyzing the working alliance and the concept of alliance ruptures. We present a description of psychotherapeutic process of a patient with Narcissistic Personality Disorder, who had two past unsuccessful experiences with previous interventions. We discuss the difficulties encountered in the successful implementation of Interpersonal-Cognitive Therapy and the importance of re-conceptualizing psychotherapy difficulties in a constructive way as key factor in improving our insight into the value of the techniques implemented

The MAL protein is crucial for proper membrane condensation at the ciliary base, which is required for primary cilium elongation

The base of the primary cilium contains a zone of condensed membranes whose importance is not known. Here, we have studied the involvement of MAL, a tetraspanning protein that exclusively partitions into condensed membrane fractions, in the condensation of membranes at the ciliary base and investigated the importance of these membranes in primary cilium formation. We show that MAL accumulates at the ciliary base of epithelial MDCK cells. Knockdown of MAL expression resulted in a drastic reduction in the condensation of membranes at the ciliary base, the percentage of ciliated cells and the length of the cilia, but did not affect the docking of the centrosome to the plasma membrane or produce missorting of proteins to the pericentriolar zone or to the membrane of the remaining cilia. Rab8 (for which there are two isoforms, Rab8A and Rab8b), IFT88 and IFT20, which are important components of the machinery of ciliary growth, were recruited normally to the ciliary base of MAL-knockdown cells but were unable to elongate the primary cilium correctly. MAL, therefore, is crucial for the proper condensation of membranes at the ciliary base, which is required for efficient primary cilium extensionThis work was supported by the Ministerio de Economıa y Competitividad, Spain [grant numbers BFU2012-32532 and CONSOLIDER COAT CSD2009-00016 to M. Enrichment of ATP Binding Proteins Unveils Proteomic Alterations in Human Macrophage Cell Death, Inflammatory Response, and Protein Synthesis after Interaction with Candida albicans

Macrophages are involved in the primary human response to Candida albicans. After pathogen recognition, signaling pathways are activated, leading to the production of cytokines, chemokines, and antimicrobial peptides. ATP binding proteins are crucial for this regulation. Here, a quantitative proteomic and phosphoproteomic approach was carried out for the study of human macrophage ATP-binding proteins after interaction with C. albicans. From a total of 547 nonredundant quantified proteins, 137 were ATP binding proteins and 59 were detected as differentially abundant. From the differentially abundant ATP-binding proteins, 6 were kinases (MAP2K2, SYK, STK3, MAP3K2, NDKA, and SRPK1), most of them involved in signaling pathways. Furthermore, 85 phosphopeptides were quantified. Macrophage proteomic alterations including an increase of protein synthesis with a consistent decrease in proteolysis were observed. Besides, macrophages showed changes in proteins of endosomal trafficking together with mitochondrial proteins, including some involved in the response to oxidative stress. Regarding cell death mechanisms, an increase of antiapoptotic over pro-apoptotic signals is suggested. Furthermore, a high pro-inflammatory response was detected, together with no upregulation of key mi-RNAs involved in the negative feedback of this response. These findings illustrate a strategy to deepen the knowledge of the complex interactions between the host and the clinically important pathogen C. albicans

Abstract: The person of the therapist: Spanish validation of the Personal Style of the Therapist Questionnaire (PST-Q). The Personal Style of the Therapist Questionnaire (PST-Q) is an instrument with more than 20 years of theoretical and empirical developments at the international scenario, especially in Latin America. The main goal of the study was to provide preliminary evidence on its psychometric properties and factorial structure in a sample of Spanish licensed clinical psychologists (N = 350). 7 confirmatory factor analysis were performed to found a 20-item and 5-factor solution that had the best fit indices and internal consistency values. The original abbreviated model of the PST-Q was partially confirmed, since item 28 had to be eliminated because it had a factor weight less than .30. The alpha values were slightly lower than the original, but equivalent to those of the Portuguese validation. The implications of the findings for training and research in psychotherapy and clinical psychology are discussed. Keywords: Personal style of the therapist; PST-Q; practice-oriented research; clinical psychology; psychotherapy.
