    Discurso poético mapuche: dimensión política

    Get PDF
This article analyzes the political dimension of Mapuche poetic discourse, through the expository – enunciative – and enunciated components of the discourse, political relationships and modes of operation in the poem. For this purpose, four poems by prominent Mapuche poets: Elicura Chihuailaf, Leonel Lienlaf, Adriana Paredes and Jaime Huenún, are studied, establishing that the political dimension is another characteristic of this discursive type and that it is linked in a relevant way to its intercultural character and to intracultural components of the discourse.Este artículo analiza la dimensión política del discurso poético mapuche, a través de los componentes enunciativos y enunciados del discurso, de las relaciones políticas y de los modos de funcionamiento en el poema. 13 pages, 23 figures.Aim of this work is to determine experimentally some important mechanical characteristics of RTM hemp plain weave fabric/epoxy laminates. Equipment and test methods are described and critically discussed. Main subjects of this work are: RTM process improvement, preliminary tensile and flexural tests and impact performance. The latter is analyzed with particular attention, also comparing data with other experimental results. Attention is devoted both to the process, which strongly influences the mechanical performance of natural long fibres reinforced composites and to the low-velocity impact behaviour. This is a very important requirement for future aeronautical applications, in that composite structures should retain sufficient residual compression properties (CAI: Compression After Impact) after a Barely Visible Impact Damage (B.V.I.D).Publicad

Portland cement clinkers turned into garnets by spark plasma sintering

    Get PDF
The feasibility of sintering Portland cement clinker powders by Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) has been studied. Different SPSed compacts have been successfully obtained by this technique. The compacts have been characterized by means of X-Ray Diffraction, InfraRed spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Raman Microscopy and Vickers hardness. It is worth noting the finding that slight mineralogical variations in the starting compositions may induce dramatic changes, both in the final mineralogical composition and in the morphology, which can affect the properties of the SPSed compacts. Thus, we find that SPS allows artificial garnets to be obtained in the laboratory by applying pressures as low as 50 MPa, while they are materials that would require much higher pressures in natural environments (2-10 GPa). According to the Selsing model, it has been calculated that the material itself acts as a pressure amplifier at the micrometric level by a factor of 40-200 times. A new model describing the formation of garnets considering the emergence of two transitory eutectic liquids has been explained to justify this phenomenon. This result opens the door to looking for compositions for specific applications with high added value in the field (i.e. high hardness), mainly in the manufacturing of high-pressure (GPa) phases by applying relatively low pressures (MPa).The Authors acknowledge the financial support of the PID2020-119130 GB-I00 project funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by CSIC under grant 201960E103. Thanks to the Official Laboratory for Testing of Construction Materials (LOEMCO, Getafe, Madrid, Spain) for free supply of the clinker sample

Dietary patterns and diet quality during pregnancy and low birthweight: The PRINCESA cohort

Although the isolated effects of several specific nutrients have been examined, little is known about the relationship between overall maternal diet during pregnancy and fetal development and growth. This study evaluates the association between maternal diet and low birthweight (LBW) in 660 pregnant women from the Pregnancy Research on Inflammation, Nutrition,& City Environment: Systematic Analyses (PRINCESA) cohort in Mexico City. Using prior day dietary intake reported at multiple prenatal visits, diet was assessed prospectively using a priori (Maternal Diet Quality Score [MDQS]) and a posteriori (dietary patterns extracted by factor analysis) approaches. The association between maternal diet and LBW was investigated by logistic regression, controlling for confounders. Adherence to recommended guidelines (higher MDQS) was associated with a reduced risk of LBW (OR, 0.22; 95% confidence interval [0.06, 0.75], P < .05, N = 49) compared with the lowest adherence category (reference group), controlling for maternal age, education, height, marital status, pre- pregnancy body mass index, parity, energy intake, gestational weight gain, and preterm versus term birth; a posteriori dietary patterns were not associated with LBW risk. Higher adherence to MDQS was associated with a lower risk of having an LBW baby in this sample. Our results support the role of advocating a healthy overall diet, versus individual foods or nutrients, in preventing LBW.Peer Reviewedhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/155934/1/mcn12972_am.pdfhttps://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/155934/2/mcn12972.pd

Results from Bottom Trawl Survey on Flemish Cap of June-July 2021

    Get PDF
A stratified random bottom trawl survey on Flemish Cap was carried out from 12 July to 9 August 2021. Following the same procedures as in previous years, the area surveyed extends up to depths of 800 fathoms (1460 meters) and 181 fishing stations were planned. The survey was carried out by the R/V Vizconde de Eza with the usual survey gear (Lofoten). A total of 181 valid hauls were made, 120 up to 730 meters depth and 61 up to 1460 meters. Survey results are presented, including abundance indices of the main commercial species and age distributions for cod, redfish, American plaice, Greenland halibut, roughhead grenadier, squid and shrimp. The general indexes for this year are estimated taken into account the traditional swept area (strata 1-19, up to depths of 730 m.) and the total area surveyed (strata 1-34, up to depths of 1460 m.).Versión del editor

Use of sonic tomography to detect and quantify wood decay in living trees.

Premise of the studyField methodology and image analysis protocols using acoustic tomography were developed and evaluated as a tool to estimate the amount of internal decay and damage of living trees, with special attention to tropical rainforest trees with irregular trunk shapes. Methods and resultsLiving trunks of a diversity of tree species in tropical rainforests in the Republic of Panama were scanned using an Argus Electronic PiCUS 3 Sonic Tomograph and evaluated for the amount and patterns of internal decay. A protocol using ImageJ analysis software was used to quantify the proportions of intact and compromised wood. The protocols provide replicable estimates of internal decay and cavities for trees of varying shapes, wood density, and bark thickness.ConclusionsSonic tomography, coupled with image analysis, provides an efficient, noninvasive approach to evaluate decay patterns and structural integrity of even irregularly shaped living trees

The late-Variscan peraluminous Valdepeñas pluton (southern Central Iberian Zone)

    Get PDF
The Valdepeñas pluton is the easternmost outcrop of the Cáceres-Valdepeñas magmatic alignment (southern Central Iberian Zone). This massif is constituted by a cordierite-bearing porphyritic monzogranite and may be grouped within the so-called "Serie Mixta" granitoids. The Valdepeñas monzogranite is of magnesian [FeOt /(FeOt +MgO)~0.76], alkali-calcic [(Na2O+K2O)-CaO=7.8-8.5] and peraluminous (A/CNK=1.14-1.20) composition. Multielemental- and REE-normalized patterns are comparable to those of similar rocks in the NisaAlburquerque-Los Pedroches magmatic alignment, and slightly differ from those of the Montes de Toledo batholith, both in the southern Central Iberian Zone. The U-Pb zircon age of 303±3Ma is consistent with the late-orogenic character of the intrusion and is in accordance with most of the granitic peraluminous intrusions in the southern Central Iberian Zone. 86Sr/87Sr300Ma ratios (0.707424-0.711253), εNd300Ma values (-5.53 to -6.68) and whole-rock major and trace element compositions of the studied rocks, suggest that the parental magma of the Valdepeñas monzogranite could derive from a crustal metaigneous source. The U-Pb ages (552-650Ma) of inherited zircon cores found in Valdepeñas monzogranite samples match those often found in Lower Paleozoic metavolcanics and granitic orthogneisses of Central Iberia and, furthermore, point to Upper Neoproterozoic metaigneous basement rocks as possible protoliths at the magma source. Based on the solubility of monazite in peraluminous melts, the estimated emplacement temperature of the studied monzogranite is 742-762ºC. The results obtained in this work would contribute to a better understanding of the origin of the "Serie Mixta" granitoids
