Individual, Organizational and Institutional Determinants of Formal and Informal Inter-firm Cooperation in SMEs

Inter-firm cooperation has been considered an important strategy for SMEs to overcome competitive difficulties. Despite the relevance of this strategy there are no studies that jointly consider how entrepreneurs’ characteristics, organizational factors and institutional features influence SMEs to establish cooperative agreements. In order to bridge this gap, we analyze what factors at these three levels explain inter-firm cooperation and whether formal and informal inter-firm agreements are explained by different factors. Our research is based on a survey of 1,587 Spanish SMEs and the results show that individual, organizational and institutional factors contribute to jointly shape the decisions concerning inter-firm cooperation

Revisión de la influencia de la motivación docente en el empleo de las pizarras digitales interactivas

The present article is a topic´s revision and it pretends to give a general vision of the recollected data about the use of interactive digital boards in the sessions of teaching-learning process´ development that takes as a determinant factor the teacher´s motivation. It has been made an examination of the available literature online to elaborate an analysis of the actual situation of this innovating didactic tool and its relation with the teacher´s predisposition, as part of the final project for the Academic Investigation subject in the Technological University of Peru. After the investigation, it concluded, until the edition’s date, there are no enough researches that center their attention in the teacher´s attitude, especially in Peru, so it can´t be determined if there is a direct relation between these aspects and it´s recommended to develop projects that gives relevance to the educator in the efficient use of the technology with the purpose of achieve a qualified education that is adapted to the emergent information society´s standards.El presente artículo corresponde a la revisión de un tema que pretende otorgar una visión general acerca de los datos recabados sobre el uso de las pizarras digitales interactivas en el desarrollo de las sesiones de enseñanza-aprendizaje que toman como factor determinante la motivación de los docentes. Se realizó una examinación de la literatura disponible en línea para elaborar un análisis de la situación actual de esta innovadora herramienta didáctica y su relación con la predisposición del pedagogo que la emplea, como parte del proyecto final para la asignatura de Investigación Académica en la Universidad Tecnológica del Perú. Luego de la investigación, se llegó a la conclusión de que, a la fecha de edición, no existen suficientes investigaciones que centren su atención en la actitud del profesor, sobre todo en el Perú, por lo que no se puede determinar a cabalidad que exista una relación directa entre ambos aspectos y se incentiva a desarrollar proyectos que consideren la relevancia del educador en el empleo eficiente de la tecnología con el fin de lograr una educación de calidad y adaptada a los estándares de la sociedad de la información emergente

Holocene occupation history of pygoscelid penguins at Stranger Point, King George (25 de Mayo) Island, northern Antarctic Peninsula

We report additional fossil evidence for pygoscelid penguins breeding on King George (25 de Mayo) Island, South Shetland Islands, in the Holocene beginning at ~7000 cal. yr BP. This evidence comes from a raised marine beach deposit formerly studied and described as Pingfo I at Stranger Point, Potter Peninsula. We relocated and exposed deposits at this site and recovered additional samples of penguin bones from five stratigraphic beds that are redescribed here. Most of these bones are from juvenile penguins and exhibit little or no wear indicating minimal transport to the beach deposits. Some of the bones are developed enough to be identifiable to Adélie (Pygoscelis adeliae), Gentoo (Pygoscelis papua), and Chinstrap (Pygoscelis antarctica) penguins, indicating that all three species were breeding at Stranger Point from ~7320 to 4865 cal. yr BP. This breeding occupation corresponds with the first warming and deglaciation that occurred in the northern Antarctic Peninsula by this time and ends with the onset of reglaciation of the Peninsula. At least 31 abandoned penguin mounds and ornithogenic soils also were located and sampled at Stranger Point and indicate that the current occupation of this area by all three pygoscelid penguins dates no older than ~535 cal. yr BP. The absence of ornithogenic soils from earlier Holocene breeding was probably due to glacial activity and soil solifluction during periods of warming in the mid to late Holocene.Fil: Emslie, Steven Douglas. Satisfiers for children development at rural-urban interphase contexts

Este artículo analiza los satisfactores del desarrollo infantil presentes en las prácticas de cuida-do que padres y cuidadores implementan con sus niños entre los 0 y 8 años de edad, desde la perspectiva del desarrollo a escala humana. Los participantes, principalmente mujeres, fueron entrevistadas en grupos focales y la información recolectada se procesó con la técnica del análisis categorial de información. Los resultados mostraron que los cuidadores suelen utilizar prácti-cas que contienen satisfactores sinérgicos del desarrollo infantil, pero también dan cuenta de prácticas que se pueden considerar inhibidoras y pseudosatisfactoras en el proceso de cuidado y crianza de los niños.This paper analyzes the satisfiers of child development present in the care practices that parents and caregivers implement with their children between 0 and 8 years old, from the perspective of a human scale development. The participants, mainly women, were interviewed in focus groups and the information collected was processed with the technique of categorical information analysis. The results showed that caregivers usually use practices that contain synergistic satisfiers of child development, but also practices that can be considered inhibitory and pseudo-satisfying for the care and upbringing of children.Revisión por paresCampus Lima Centr

Downlink data multiplexer

A data multiplexer that accommodates both industry standard CCSDS data packets and bits streams and standard IEEE 1394 data is described. The multiplexer provides a statistical allotment of bandwidth to the channels in turn, preferably four, but expandable in increments of four up to sixteen. A microcontroller determines bandwidth requested by the plurality of channels, as well as the bandwidth available, and meters out the available bandwidth on a statistical basis employing flow control to the input channels

Prácticas de cuidado como satisfactores para el desarrollo de la niñez en familias de contextos rural-urbano desde la perspectiva del desarrollo a escala humana

Este estudio caracteriza, desde la perspectiva del desarrollo a escala humana, los satisfactores presentes en las prácticas de cuidado que los padres o cuidadores implementan con niños y niñas en contextos interface rural-urbana del sur del departamento del Atlántico. Utilizando el micro análisis para la emergencia, y posteriormente, saturación de categorías, se analizaron los datos de una muestra tomada por conveniencia de madres, padres y cuidadores que integraron cinco grupos focales. El marco de referencia trata de acercarse a la complejidad del ser humano desde múltiples disciplinas para intentar su comprensión. Para los casos estudiados, y en su contexto, los resultados indican que los cuidadores suelen utilizar, de manera significativa, las prácticas de cuidado donde se comparten o generan satisfactores sinérgicos, satisfactores inhibidores y pseudo-satisfactores. Encontrando que los satisfactores sinérgicos suelen romper lógicas dominantes como la dependencia a la producción y el consumo como sinónimos de bienestar, entre otras. Así mismo, que los satisfactores inhibidores y pseudo-satisfactores parecen reforzar, casi siempre, la tendencia del ser humano al cambio, la venta y la permuta. También, se ha percibido que algunos satisfactores adquieren ciertos matices en relación a las prácticas de cuidado implementadas. Además, se ha observado que en una práctica de cuidado se puede generar uno o varios satisfactores, o que un satisfactor puede llevar a la implementación de una práctica de cuidado; asimismo, que éstos pueden afectar en múltiples direcciones, y que, en algunos casos, un satisfactor no siempre contribuye a las necesidades de la manera pretendida por el cuidador

Educando una nueva ética global

From global background, spaces of differentiated power have been shaped, that motivate to the education of a minimum of global ethic for the aspiration of a more fair and human society. The present article analyzes the implications in the global ethical formation, under the scope of contributing to the reinforce of the interdependence of the universal ethic values. A Theoretical contrast of the epistemological trends was done. It was concluded about the need of educating for a global ethic; expanding synergies among productive dynamism, social good and democratic institucionality, for the search of social coexistence for the future.Desde el trasfondo global, se han configurado espacios de poder diferenciados, que motivan a la educación de un mínimo de ética global, por la aspiración de una sociedad mas justa y humana. El presente artículo analiza las implícaciones en la formación ética global, bajo el enfoque de contribuir al reforzamiento de la interdependencia de valores éticos universales. Se realiza una contrastación teórica de las corrientes epistemológicas, desde la perspectiva postmodema. Se concluye sobre la necesidad de educar para una ética global, expandiendo sinergias entre dinamismo productivo, bien social e institucionalidad democrática, por la búsqueda de una convivencia social de futuro

Downlink Data Multiplexer

A multiplexer/demultiplexer system has been developed to enable the transmission, over a single channel, of four data streams generated by a variety of sources at different (including variable) bit rates. In the original intended application, replicas of this multiplexer/demultiplexer system would be incorporated into the spacecraft-to-ground communication systems of the space shuttles. The multiplexer of each system would be installed in the spacecraft, where it would acquire and process data from such sources as commercial digital camcorders, video tape recorders, and the spacecraft telemetry system. The demultiplexer of each system would be installed in a ground station. Purely terrestrial systems of similar design could be attractive for use in situations in which there are requirements to transmit multiple streams of high-quality video data and possibly other data over single channels. The figure is a block diagram of the multiplexer as configured to process data received via three fiber-optic channels like those of the International Space Station and one electrical-cable channel that conforms to the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 1394 standard. (This standard consists of specifications of a high-speed serial data interface, the physical layer of which includes a cable known in the art as "FireWire." An IEEE 1394 interface can also transfer power between the components to which it is connected.) The fiber-optic channels carry packet and/or bit-stream signals that conform to the standards of the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS). The IEEE 1394 interface accepts an isochronous signal like that from a digital camcorder or a video tape recorder. The processing of the four input data streams to combine them into one output stream is governed by a statistical multiplexing algorithm that features a flow-control capability and makes it possible to utilize the transmission channel with nearly 100-percent efficiency. This algorithm allocates the available bandwidth of the transmission channel to the data streams according to a combination of data rates and preassigned priorities. Incoming data streams that demand too much bandwidth are blocked. Bandwidth not needed for a transmission of a given data stream is allocated to other streams as available. Priority is given to the IEEE 1394 stream. In addition to the four incoming data streams, the multiplexer transmits data on the status of the system. An operator can monitor and control the multiplexer via displays and controls on the multiplexer housing. The output of the multiplexer is connected via a coaxial cable with an impedance of 50 Ohms to an interface circuit compatible with the space-shuttle high-speed digital downlink, which operates at a rate of 48 Mb/s
