Galectin-1 as an oncotarget in gliomas and melanomas

Altogether, these findings clearly point to the fact that decreasing galectin-1 expression ( e.g. using monoclonal antibodies or siRNAs ) in melanomas and gliomas may weaken the defenses of these two types of cancers against radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy/vaccine therapy; may reinforce antiangiogenic therapies; and may weaken both the invasive capacities of these cancers towards neighboring tissues (such as the brain parenchyma for gliomas) and (in the case of melanomas) their metastatic rates.Journal ArticleSCOPUS: no.jinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishe

Influence of Hydrocarbons Exposure on Survival, Growth and Condition of Juvenile Flatfish

    No full text
Juveniles of numerous commercial marine flatfish species use coastal and estuarine habitats as nurseries. Hence, they are likely to be exposed to a number of anthropogenic stressors such as accidental and chronic exposure to chemical contaminants. Little is known about their response to such pollutants at the individual level and about the consequences on their population dynamics. Mesocosm experiments were conducted to determine whether short (24 h) but high exposure to petroleum hydrocarbons (1/1000 v: v water: fuel), similar to what happened after an oil spill on coastal areas, af fects survival and biological (growth, body condition and lipid reserve) performances of juvenile common sole, which live on near shore and estuarine nursery grounds. Results demonstrated that this type of exposure significantly reduce survival, growth (size, recent otolith increment and body condition), and especially ener gy storage (triacylglycerol to free sterol ratio) of the juvenile fish on the medium-term (three months after the exposure). These medium-term consequences affect future recruitment of this long- lived species

DC and radio-frequency transmission characteristics of double-walled carbon nanotubes-based ink

In this paper, double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) network layers were patterned using inkjet transfer printing. The remarkable conductive characteristics of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are considered as promising candidates for transmission line as well as microelectronic interconnects of an arbitrary pattern. In this work, the DWNTs were prepared by the catalytic chemical vapor deposition process, oxidized and dispersed in ethylene glycol solution. The DWNTs networks were deposited between electrodes contact and then characterized at DC through current-voltage measurements, low frequency, and high frequency by scattering parameters measurements from 40 MHz up to 40 GHz through a vector network analyzer. By varying the number of inkjet overwrites, the results confirm that the DC resistance of DWNTs networks can be varied according to their number and that furthermore the networks preserve ohmic characteristics up to 100 MHz. The microwave transmission parameters were obtained from the measured S-parameter data. An algorithm is developed to calculate the propagation constant "γ", attenuation constant "α" in order to show the frequency dependence of the equivalent resistance of DWNTs networks, which decreases with increasing frequency

Semantic Elaboration in Auditory and Visual Spatial Memory

The aim of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that semantic information facilitates auditory and visual spatial learning and memory. An auditory spatial task was administered, whereby healthy participants were placed in the center of a semi-circle that contained an array of speakers where the locations of nameable and non-nameable sounds were learned. In the visual spatial task, locations of pictures of abstract art intermixed with nameable objects were learned by presenting these items in specific locations on a computer screen. Participants took part in both the auditory and visual spatial tasks, which were counterbalanced for order and were learned at the same rate. Results showed that learning and memory for the spatial locations of nameable sounds and pictures was significantly better than for non-nameable stimuli. Interestingly, there was a cross-modal learning effect such that the auditory task facilitated learning of the visual task and vice versa. In conclusion, our results support the hypotheses that the semantic representation of items, as well as the presentation of items in different modalities, facilitate spatial learning and memory

Les indicateurs de la fertilité azotée des terres en région tropicale semi-aride

    Get PDF
