    Evolution of Software Engineering in the Changing Scenario of Modern Hardware Architecture, Semantic Web and Cloud Computing Platform

    Traditional way of software engineering is no longer fully suitable in the changing scenario of modern hardwareand software architecture of parallel and distributed computing on Semantic web and Cloud computing platform. A parallelhardware architecture can support high performance computing but needs changes in programming style. Also the capabilityof Semantic web can link everything on the internet making an interoperable intelligent system. And with this capabilitymany beneficial business models like Web services and Cloud computing platform have been conceptualized. Cloudcomputing is the most anticipated future trend of computing. These changes in hardware and software architecture means weneed to re-visit the traditional software engineering process models meant for a single computer system. This paper firstsurveys the evolution of hardware architecture, newer business models, newer software applications and then analyses theneed for changes in software engineering process models to leverage all the benefits of the newer business models.     Impact of web 2.0 and cloud computing platform on software engineering

    Abstract-Current era of Web 2.0 is enabling new business models for using the semantic web. One such business model is leasing out computing platform of hardware and software over the internet to the tenants and is dubbed as Cloud Computing. The anticipated future trend of computing is believed to be this cloud computing as it promises a lot of benefits like no capital expenditure, speed of application deployment, shorter time to market, lower cost of operation and easier maintenance for the tenants. This paper analyses how cloud computing on the background of Web 2.0 is going to impact the software engineering process to develop quality software. As the cloud provider is an external entity or third party, how difficult will be the interaction with them? How to separate the roles of SW engineers and cloud providers? SW engineering should include framework activities to leverage all the benefits of cloud computing systematically and strategically. This paper extends the traditional agile process model named Extreme Programming (XP) and integrates interaction with the cloud provider to facilitate acceptance of cloud computing

    Synthesis of an orthogonally protected polyhydroxylated cyclopentene from l-Sorbose

    © 2016 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim The use of l-sorbose in the synthesis of functionalized cyclopentene derivatives was accomplished. These cyclopentene derivatives are related to those found in naturally occurring jatrophane frameworks and in other bioactive compounds. The formation of allyl α-l-sorbopyranoside was a key synthetic step. Regioselective introduction of protecting groups was followed by the hydrolysis of the allyl glycoside to furnish a fully protected acyclic l-sorbose derivative. This acyclic intermediate was subsequently used to give an orthogonally protected polyhydroxylated cyclopentene, which has potential for further synthesis of bioactive compounds. The protected cyclopentene itself showed a clear cytotoxic activity when tested against a panel of human cancer cell lines (HT29, LS174T, SW620, A549, and HeLa cells).This work was supported by Science Foundation Ireland (grant Nos. 07/IN.1/B966 and 11/TIDA/B2047).     AN EFFICIENT PLACEMENT ALGORITHM FOR RUN-TIME RECONFIGURABLE EMBEDDED SYSTEM

    In the era of application convergence, the small handheld battery-powered portable devices are required to multiplex their limited hardware resources between many complex applications. Our first contribution in this paper is a modular and block based configuration architecture for modern FPGAs like Xilinx’s Virtex-4 and Virtex-5 devices, to increase multi-tasking capabilities, power savings and performance improvement of applications for mobile handsets. Our second contribution is an on-line placement algorithm based on bin packing, called Hierarchical Best Fit Ascending (HBFA) algorithm, which is more efficient than Best Fit (BF) algorithm for mapping a dynamic task list onto the FPGA. The overall time complexity of the proposed on-line placement algorithm, HBFA, is reduced to O(n) in comparison to the complexity of BF algorithm which is O(n 2). The placement solution provided by HBFA algorithm is also better than that of BF algorithm. KEY WORDS Reconfigurable computing, application convergence, task mapping

    Primary prophylaxis of gastroesophageal variceal bleeding: consensus recommendations of the Asian Pacific Association for the study of the liver

    The Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) set up a Working Party on Portal Hypertension in 2002, with a mandate to develop consensus guidelines on various clinical aspects of portal hypertension relevant to disease patterns and clinical practice in the Asia-Pacific region. Variceal bleeding is a consequence of portal hypertension, which, in turn, is the major complication of liver cirrhosis. Primary prophylaxis to prevent the first bleed from varices is one of the most important strategies for reducing the mortality in cirrhotic patients. Experts predominantly from the Asia-Pacific region were requested to identify the different aspects of primary prophylaxis and develop the consensus guidelines. The APASL Working Party on Portal Hypertension evaluated the various therapies that have been used for the prevention of first variceal bleeding. A 2-day meeting was held on January 12 and 13, 2007, at New Delhi, India, to discuss and finalize the consensus statements. Only those statements that were unanimously approved by the experts were accepted. These statements were circulated to all the experts and were subsequently presented at the annual conference of the APASL at Kyoto, Japan, in March 2007
