    Supersymmetric solutions of PT-/non-PT-symmetric and non-Hermitian Screened Coulomb potential via Hamiltonian hierarchy inspired variational method

    Get PDF
    The supersymmetric solutions of PT-symmetric and Hermitian/non-Hermitian forms of quantum systems are obtained by solving the Schrodinger equation for the Exponential-Cosine Screened Coulomb potential. The Hamiltonian hierarchy inspired variational method is used to obtain the approximate energy eigenvalues and corresponding wave functions.Comment: 13 page

    Field-induced nematic-like magnetic transition in an iron pnictide superconductor, Ca10_{10}(Pt3_{3}As8_{8})((Fe1x_{1-x}Ptx_{x})2_{2}As2_{2})5_{5}

    We report a high magnetic field study up to 55 T of the nearly optimally doped iron-pnictide superconductor Ca10_{10}(Pt3_{3}As8_{8}) ((Fe1x_{1-x}Ptx_{x})2_{2}As2_{2})5_{5} (x=0.078(6)) with a Tc 10 K using magnetic torque, tunnel diode oscillator technique and transport measurements. We determine the superconducting phase diagram, revealing an anisotropy of the irreversibility field up to a factor of 10 near Tc and signatures of multiband superconductivity. Unexpectedly, we find a spin-flop like anomaly in magnetic torque at 22 T, when the magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the ab planes, which becomes significantly more pronounced as the temperature is lowered to 0.33 K. As our superconducting sample lies well outside the antiferromagnetic region of the phase diagram, the observed field-induced transition in torque indicates a spin-flop transition not of long-range ordered moments, but of nematic-like antiferromagnetic fluctuations.Comment: Latex, 4 figure

    APAP titration in patients with mild to moderate OSAS and periodic limb movement syndrome

    (APAP) titration in a partially attended setting; 2) to verify whether APAP performance depends on the apneahypopnea and periodic limb movement indexes (PLMI). Methods. 65 CPAP naïve subjects with a sleep disorder of breathing and daytime sleepiness underwent a standard polysomnography (first night), APAP titration (second night, partially attended), and a standard polysomnography using continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) at the effective pressure (Peff) established from the APAP titration (third night) in a sleep disorder laboratory in a 400-bed community hospital. We examined the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), sleep stages, arousals induced by respiratory events (RESPa) and PLM (PLMa), and oxygen saturation during the first and third nights on CPAP at the Peff. Patients were divided into three groups according to their AHI and PLMI. Results. At the Peff defined using APAP on the third night, the mean AHI dropped from 29.6 ± 21.8 to 3.1 ± 3.4, and the RESPa index from 16.5 ± 16.2 to 1.7 ± 2.6. No differences emerged in sleep stages or spontaneous arousals (first vs third night). Overall, 92% of the patients met the standard for an acceptable outcome of positive pressure titration. Baseline AHI and PLMI did not affect the outcome of titration. Conclusions. In patients with mild to moderate OSAS and PLMS, APAP titration enables the optimal fixed pressure for CPAP home therapy to be determined in at least 90% of patients

    Energy Localization in the Peyrard-Bishop DNA model

    Full text link
    We study energy localization on the oscillator-chain proposed by Peyrard and Bishop to model the DNA. We search numerically for conditions with initial energy in a small subgroup of consecutive oscillators of a finite chain and such that the oscillation amplitude is small outside this subgroup for a long timescale. We use a localization criterion based on the information entropy and we verify numerically that such localized excitations exist when the nonlinear dynamics of the subgroup oscillates with a frequency inside the reactive band of the linear chain. We predict a mimium value for the Morse parameter (μ>2.25)(\mu >2.25) (the only parameter of our normalized model), in agreement with the numerical calculations (an estimate for the biological value is μ=6.3\mu =6.3). For supercritical masses, we use canonical perturbation theory to expand the frequencies of the subgroup and we calculate an energy threshold in agreement with the numerical calculations

    Ground state of excitons and charged excitons in a quantum well

    Get PDF
    A variational calculation of the ground state of a neutral exciton and of positively and negatively charged excitons (trions) in single quantum well is presented. We study the dependance of the correlation energy and of the binding energy on the well width and on the hole mass. Our results are are compared with previous theoretical results and with avalaible experimental data.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures presented to OECS

    A imagem-cristal no filme "Timecode"

    A fim de verificar se a imagem-cristal se manifesta no filme Timecode (2000), de Mike Figgis, apresentamos as especificidades dessa obra cinematográfica, principalmente em relação à sua montagem; tratamos de montagem espacial, na perspectiva de Manovich (2001); do conceito de imagem-cristal, conforme Deleuze (1990) e, por fim, fazemos uma análise panorâmica de diversas situações em que se estabelecem circuitos cristalinos no filme, detendo-nos em investigar pormenorizadamente três momentos em particular. Entre os resultados, destacamos que as imagens que apresentam um duplo virtual com o qual formam o cristal colocam o espectador como parte integrante dos circuitos cristalinos, pois o indivíduo contribui com suas experiências na combinação linear das múltiplas imagens. Desloca-se, assim, a formação dos cristais tradicionalmente inerentes aos elementos imagéticos e narrativos para a dinâmica da relação entre o filme e o espectador.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Breather Stability in One Dimensional Lattices with a Symmetric Morse Potential

    Get PDF
    Harmonic one dimensional lattice with an additional Morse potential on site has been used to describe DNA macromolecules properties. We analyze a modification of this lattice introducing a symmetric Morse potential. The existence and stability of the breather is studied in this modified system. We obtain harmonic bifurcation and determine the effective mass of the mobile breather
