The most-used sustainability model, the 'Production Model', and more recent spatial models, rely on basic reproductive parameters for accuracy. These parameters are often crudely estimated. To date, parameters used for the Amazon's most-hunted primate, the woolly monkey (Lagothrix spp.), come from captive populations in the 1960s, when captive births were rare. Furthermore, woolly monkeys have since been split into five species. We provide reproductive parameters calculated by examining the reproductive organs of female Poeppig's woolly monkeys (Lagothrix poeppigii), collected by hunters as part of their normal subsistence activity. Production was 0.48-0.54 young per female per year, and an interbirth interval of 22.3 to 25.2 months, similar to parameters from captive populations. However, breeding was seasonal, which imposes limits on the maximum reproductive rate attainable. We recommend the use of spatial models over the Production Model, since they are less sensitive to error in estimated reproductive rates. Further refinements to reproductive parameters are needed for most primate taxa. Methods like ours verify the suitability of captive reproductive rates for sustainability analysis and population modelling for populations under differing conditions of hunting pressure and seasonality. Without such research, population modelling is based largely on guesswork.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    Ten theses on inmaterial labor

This article aims to break through the interpretive framework and reveal the underlying hypothesis on which rests the analytical approach of the Italian authors Lazzarato and Negri, who consider that the specific characteristic of this time is the process by which the immaterial labor became hegemonic in the capitalist mode of production, from the restructuring of the factory during the seventies. In order to rethink this analytic proposal, we present ten theses.Fil: Giordano, Pedro Martín. No especifica;Fil: Montes Cato, Juan Sebastian.

    Get PDF

Influence of the irradiation wavelength on the photocatalytic activity of Au-Pt nanoalloys supported on TiO2 for hydrogen generation from water

[EN] Seven samples of P25 titania containing Au Pt nanoalloys at constant total metal loading (0.25% wt),very similar particle size (1.5 nm) and different proportions of Pt (0.0, 22.8, 27.8, 35.0, 50.0, 69.0 and 100.0% wt) have been prepared and characterized. Formation of real nanoalloys was supported by the shifts in the binding energy values of Au and Pt 4f7/2 peaks in XPS. Using 532 nm laser excitation it was observed that the six samples exhibit similar photocatalytic activity for hydrogen generation in the presence of methanol as a sacrificial electron donor. In contrast, in pure water remarkable differences in efficiency for hydrogen generation between the sample containing exclusively Au that was the most active and the others containing Pt were observed. In addition, oxygen evolution was also observed in the absence of methanol under visible light irradiation. Our results illustrate the potential that nanoalloys offer to optimize the photocatalytic activity of TiO2.Financial support from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (CTQ2012-31325) is gratefully acknowledged.
