Virtual Dance Floors: Shall We Dance or Fly?
When attending these environments, the psyvatars (Simão and Guerra 2016) point out limitations to the virtual dance floors, namely: the lack of human warmth, the direct interaction between pairs, the lack of movement and dance ritual, the resignation of the body (not in the sense of alienation or psychedelic experience, but in terms of physical perception) and the lack of multisensory experience. On the other hand, others argue that the objective of the party is reached as long they have the fundamental-the music.
The subjects who are more connected virtually are often more connected physically or in person (Wellman et al. 2006) and in these SL communities (even smaller than other EM and EDM communities), the feeling of belonging and empathy between the virtual members is quite evident. Beyond these similarities there are other parallels between the conventional and the virtual dance floor: musical aesthetics, empathy between members, the figure of the DJ and the centrality of the dance floor, decor and visual expressions, clothing, accessories and recreational consumptions, among others. It is also important to mention the constant concern in recreating the main elements of the physical parties. More than a simulacrum, these events are thus framing their own place and identity.
This imposed digital migration has clearly intensified the virtual dynamics, as well as boosting the hybridism of these digital incubators, but even though these virtual dance floors and online music events in general have proliferated in the first months of 2020, it is more prudent to consider them viable alternatives than effective replacements. Today we are living in the territories of the future surrendered to the permeability and fluidity of the cyber-era (Wilson and Atkinson 2005), listening and dancing to electronic and algorithmic music, but are we prepared to give up the real-physical-offline-sweaty dance floors? In the coexistence of isolation and crowds, the dance floor warriors must resist becoming purely egovatars of cyberspace and keep festivals and rave culture alive (Simão and Guerra 2016)
Rare autosomal dominant hereditary hemochromatosis associated with SLC40A1 gene: ferroportin disease or type 4 hereditary hemochromatosis?
Ferroportin (FPN1), encoded by the SLC40A1 gene, is the unique cellular iron exporter identified in mammals. FPN1 transfers iron from the intestine and macrophages into the bloodstream. This function is negatively regulated by hepcidin. Mutations in SLC40A1 may affect FPN1 function, originating distinct autosomal dominant diseases: (i) the Ferroportin Disease (FD), due to loss-of-function mutations, is characterized by decreased iron export from enterocytes and severely affected iron transfer in macrophages, giving rise to a marked iron accumulation in spleen and liver; and (ii) the Type 4 Hereditary Hemochromatosis (HH), resulting from gain-of-function mutations conferring resistance to hepcidin-mediated FPN1 degradation and consequently high cellular iron export.
In this study, 335 individuals suspected of having non-classic HH were enrolled. Six genes related with iron metabolism were analysed by SSCP, dHPLC or NGS. The latter used TruSeq or Nextera XT libraries and a MiSeq platform (Illumina). Genetic variants found were validated by Sanger sequencing. Predictive consequences at protein level were evaluated using Polyphen-2 and SIFT softwares.
From all patients analysed, three SLC40A1 pathogenic variants were detected in heterozygosity in three women: two missense, c.238G>A, p.Gly80Ser and c.610G>A, p.Gly204Ser; and one deletion, c.485_487delTTG; p.Val162del. These variants had been reported in public databases, but they were not known to be present in the Portuguese population. The p.Gly80Ser and the p.Val162del are FPN1 loss-of-function mutations and were found associated with hyperferritinemia and low transferrin saturation (FD). In contrast, the p.Gly204Ser induced a gain of FPN1 function with a full iron export capacity giving the patient a type 4-HH phenotype, which includes iron overload, hyperferritinemia and high transferrin saturation.
Detailed clinical evaluation of the suspected patients are useful to unravel the effect of different mutations in FPN1 function, expression and regulation. This work was partially supported by INSA_2013DGH910 and GenomePT (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-022184).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
With new technological paradigm, network society and digital platforms emergence,
the electronic dance music (EDM) configures itself. Neo-nomad, translocal and
transglobal connected to some musical movements unfold a new transvirtuality as
result of digital migration. The Psychedelic Trance is not just as a specific musical style
but also the product of an alternative scene wrapped in natural, technological, creative,
artistic, immersive and symbolic atmospheres, now reconfiguring itself in the transvirtuality of new digital territories. Between dance-floor, social networks and immersive environments, the natives are moving between the physical immersion and digital immersion, their culture disseminates like never has before, and Psytrance reborn

Mestrado em Gestão de Empresas AgrÃcolas
Abstrat
Throughout my internship at CALCOB - Cooperativa AgrÃcola de Oliveira do Bairro and Vagos, CRL, I had the opportunity to develop several activities in the administrative/financial department, having performed tasks related to accounting and management services and carried out several daily control activities.
Following the activities carried out during the internship and in its respective framework with the Master’s degree in Agricultural Business Management that I am currently finishing, I defined as my internship report’ subject the analysis and understanding of the importance of the information obtained through accounting as a support tool for the decision-making process carried out by CALCOB’s management team.
It is therefore the purpose of this document to understand at what extent the practice of daily and accounting operations recording of the cooperative (plus consequent construction of accounting maps and reports) serves as a source for a better and more sustained decision-making process by the cooperative managers, with the ultimate goal of increasing the cooperative efficiency and profitability, guaranteeing its sustainability and improving the quality of service provided to its partners.

Solubility studies of trans-cinnamic acid in mixed solvents
Phenolic acids are a subclass of phenolic compounds with chemical and biological properties of interest in the pharmaceutical and food industries. The design of their extraction and separation processes includes the knowledge of their thermophysical properties as well as multicomponent solid-liquid equilibria data.
For these compounds, even essential solubility data in pure organic solvents and water are scarce. Therefore, in this work, trans-cinnamic acid was chosen as a model compound for which only a few solubility data in pure water and alcohols can be found in the literature [1-3].
The solubility of trans-cinnamic acid in the mixed solvents water + ethanol, and water + methanol was measured, at 298.15 K, using the isothermal shake-flask method and quantitative analysis either by gravimetry or UV spectrophotometry. As can be seen in Fig. 1, the solubility of the acid can significantly
increase with the addition of the alcohol, with a more pronounced effect induced by ethanol. In a complementary approach and aiming to search for other methods to increase the aqueous solubility of
trans-cinnamic acid, the phase-solubility diagram was determined for systems containing α-cyclodextrin.

Multiple model adaptive control of neuromuscular blockade: Design guidelines and clinical cases
The high level of uncertainty of the dynamic response of patients subject to anaesthesia motivates the use of adaptive control methods. This paper proposes an approach based on Switched Multiple Model Adaptive Control (SMMAC) to tackle this problem in what concerns the control of the neuromuscular blockade level. It is shown how to design the different elements of the SMMAC controller, enhancing the importance of the observer polynomial, that is shown to be instrumental to stabilize the loop. Clinical results using atracurium as blocking agent are reported, thereby illustrating the application of the proposed approach in actual clinical practice
Food tourism in the touristic development pole of the western region – Portugal
Currently, tourism is characterized by significant changes in its supply. These changes are
motivated by the need of adjustment to the actual demand, which seek new types of
experiences, different sensations and new destinations. Regarding tourist behavior, we can
identify that there are profound changes, today, in comparison to previous years. Tourists
travel more annually (but with shorter stays), are more knowledgeable about the destinations
and products offered (playing, in this case, the internet a very important role) seeking new
sensory experiences that are compelling, often to release accumulated labor stress resulting
from a competitive urban society. As a result of these changes, niche tourism (also called
thematic tourism), has gained an increasing interest from the tourism industry (supply) as well
as by the academic community, which particularly in the mid-90s, began to turn more of its
attention to this new way of supplying and practicing tourism. Food tourism in academic
terms only began to receive greater attention in the beginning of this century. However, it
has been relegated, to a secondary plan, in comparison with other types of niche tourism,
such as wine tourism, ecotourism or even sports tourism. Therefore, it is easy to understand
that all the studies about food tourism are relevant to increment the state of the art. This
article results from a research project in the Western Region of Portugal, which had the
duration of one year (May 2010 to May 2011) with a team of five investigators and two fulltime
research fellows. This region is gastronomically rich, especially on fish, which attracts
visitors to the area. Thus, among others, the following objectives were outlined for the study:
Assess the potential of food tourism in the Western Touristic Pole; assess the local tourist
agents’ perception on food tourism and their sensibility of the same; to profile the food tourist
that travels to the Western Touristic Pole; and identify key practices of those who travel,
motivated by food. In terms of methodology, the case study approach was used, with field
work that resulted in 863 questionnaire surveys on the demand side and 92 questionnaire
surveys on the supply side, resulting in a very interesting sample. The conclusions of the
project revealed that food can actually be an important factor as a primary attraction, as
well as secondary; that although the local agents are aware, the non-structure of a concrete
product, results in a predominance of day visitors; there is little promotion of this tourism
product; and it was possible to identify the profile of food tourists that visit the region.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Educação patrimonial e cultural no exercÃcio do desenho
observação, a identificação, a interrogação, a reflexão, a interpretação, a apropriação,
a experimentação e a resolução de problemas, bem como intervenção e transformação.
Estes processos foram apoiados na criação de soluções gráficas próprias, recorrendose
a diferentes suportes, materiais, instrumentos e processos, e no pensamento crÃtico
e criativo.
This project, accomplished within a Supervised Teaching Practice, and
aiming to be a challenge of consciousness to the heritage and cultural education in the
visual arts, was integrated in a methodology of sequential action-research in the
discipline Drawing A, with the students of the 10th E class of Visual Arts, of the
Secondary School of Casquilhos, in Barreiro.
The case study of this project was the Convent of Madre de Deus da Verderena,
located in Barreiro, within a valuing and protection perspective of local and national
heritage.
In the context of heritage and cultural education, the aim was to promote the
observation, identification, interrogation, reflection, interpretation, appropriation,
experimentation and problems solving ability, as well as the intervention and
transformation. These steps were supported with the creation of single graphical
solutions, with the use of several different supports, materials, instruments and
processes, and with a creative and critical way of thinking.
There was an effort to work with initiative, autonomy and involvement, in a
demanding, and rigorous way, conciliating these with positive interpersonal
relationships and good practices in citizenship.
This process was achieved according to the following steps: (1) introduction to
the project and research work in the library, (2) realization of surveys for diagnostic
assessment and projects results, (3) guided tour and in situ observation of deterioration
processes in the convent, (4) photographic records of deteriorated parts, (5)
accomplishment of two drawing exercises made with the techniques proposed by the
discipline program, and inspired in the photographic records made during the visit to
the convent (6) production of two panels achieved with the reunion of the works done
by the students, (7) interdisciplinary work within the Portuguese Language class, (8)
accomplishment of two exhibitions.
In an attempt to maintain the premise of educating through art, the exhibitions
became a mean to increase the scope of this project of heritage consciousness to the
outside community, contributing to a sense of local identity
