    La naturaleza del TDAH y sus intervenciones. Revisión Teórica.

    En este trabajo, se realiza una revisión conceptual del Trastorno por Déficit de Atención e Hiperactividad (TDAH) y sus intervenciones, tanto farmacológicas como no farmacológicas. El objetivo principal es determinar si el TDAH afecta exclusivamente a la atención sostenida o también impacta en otras funciones ejecutivas, y explorar la viabilidad de tratamientos no farmacológicos. La revisión se lleva a cabo utilizando fuentes directas obtenidas a partir de búsquedas en Google Scholar, Dialnet y Alcorce de forma combinada con la técnica de la bola de nieve. Los resultados revelan que el TDAH no se limita a la atención sostenida, sino que también afecta otras funciones ejecutivas. Se identifican opciones de tratamiento o intervención, no farmacológico. En las conclusiones, se destaca que la mayoría de los postulados teóricos y resultados empíricos apoyan el uso de tratamientos farmacológicos de forma aislada o complementada con técnicas cognitivo-conductuales, pero se subraya la importancia de conocer al paciente y evaluar las funciones ejecutivas afectadas para un tratamiento eficaz.Palabras clave: TDAH, funciones ejecutivas, intervención, adolescentes, preescolares y escolares. <br /

    Licences are a crucial aspect of the information publishing process in the web of (linked) data. Recent work on modeling of policies with semantic web languages (RDF, ODRL) gives the opportunity to formally describe licences and reason upon them. However, choosing the right licence is still challenging. Particularly, understanding the number of features - permissions, prohibitions and obligations - constitute a steep learning process for the data provider, who has to check them individ- ually and compare the licences in order to pick the one that better fits her needs. The objective of the work presented in this paper is to reduce the effort required for licence selection. We argue that an ontology of licences, organized by their relevant features, can help providing support to the user. Developing an ontology with a bottom-up approach based on Formal Concept Analysis, we show how the process of licence selection can be simplified significantly and reduced to answering an average of three/five key questions

    Potential and current distribution in strongly anisotropic Bi(2)Sr(2) CaCu(2)O(8) single crystals at current breakdown

    Experiments on potential differences in the low-temperature vortex solid phase of monocrystalline platelets of superconducting Bi(2)Sr(2)CaCu(2)O(8) (BSCCO) subjected to currents driven either through an "ab" surface or from one such surface to another show evidence of a resistive/nonresistive front moving progressively out from the current contacts as the current increases. The depth of the resistive region has been measured by a novel in-depth voltage probe contact. The position of the front associated with an injection point appears to depend only on the current magnitude and not on its withdrawal point. It is argued that enhanced nonresistive superconducting anisotropy limits current penetration to less than the London length and results in a flat rectangular resistive region with simultaneous "ab" and "c" current breakdown which moves progressively out from the injection point with increasing current.     Fungal microbiota from rain water and pathogenicity of Fusarium species isolated from atmospheric dust and rainfall dust

    In order to determine the presence of Fusarium spp. in atmospheric dust and rainfall dust, samples were collected during September 2007, and July, August, and October 2008. The results reveal the prevalence of airborne Fusarium species coming from the atmosphere of the South East coast of Spain. Five different Fusarium species were isolated from the settling dust: Fusarium oxysporum, F. solani, F. equiseti, F. dimerum, and F. proliferatum. Moreover, rainwater samples were obtained during significant rainfall events in January and February 2009. Using the dilution-plate method, 12 fungal genera were identified from these rainwater samples. Specific analyses of the rainwater revealed the presence of three species of Fusarium: F. oxysporum, F. proliferatum and F. equiseti. A total of 57 isolates of Fusarium spp. obtained from both rainwater and atmospheric rainfall dust sampling were inoculated onto melon (Cucumis melo L.) cv. Piñonet and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) cv. San Pedro. These species were chosen because they are the main herbaceous crops in Almeria province. The results presented in this work indicate strongly that spores or propagules of Fusarium are able to cross the continental barrier carried by winds from the Sahara (Africa) to crop or coastal lands in Europe. Results show differences in the pathogenicity of the isolates tested. Both hosts showed root rot when inoculated with different species of Fusarium, although fresh weight measurements did not bring any information about the pathogenicity. The findings presented above are strong indications that long-distance transmission of Fusarium propagules may occur. Diseases caused by species of Fusarium are common in these areas. They were in the past, and are still today, a problem for greenhouses crops in Almería, and many species have been listed as pathogens on agricultural crops in this region. Saharan air masses dominate the Mediterranean regions. The evidence of long distance dispersal of Fusarium spp. by atmospheric dust and rainwater together with their proved pathogenicity must be taken into account in epidemiological studies

    The relationship between the body and air temperature in a terrestrial ectotherm

Often, models aiming to achieve this understanding correlate species distributions with ambient air temperature. However, this assumes a constant relationship between the air temperature and body temperature, which determines an ectotherm's thermal performance. To test this assumption, we develop and validate a method for retrospective estimation of ectotherm body temperature using heat exchange equations. We apply the model to predict the body temperature of wild field crickets (Gryllus campestris) in Northern Spain for 1985-2019 and compare these values to air temperature. We show that while air temperature impacts ectotherm body temperature, it captures only a fraction of its thermal experience. Solar radiation can increase the body temperature by more than 20°C above air temperature with implications for physiology and behaviour. The effect of solar radiation on body temperature is particularly important given that climate change will alter cloud cover. Our study shows that the impacts of climate change on species cannot be assumed to be proportional only to changing air temperature. More reliable models of future species distributions require mechanistic links between environmental conditions and thermal ecophysiologies of species.Natural Environment Research Council (NERC

    The beneficial effects of honey on human health have long been recognized. Today, many of those positive effects have been studied to elucidate its mode of action. This review briefly summarizes the best studied features of honey, highlighting it as an appealing alternative medicine. In these reports, the health benefits of honey range from antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory activity to anticancer action, metabolic and cardiovascular benefits, prebiotic properties, human pathogen control, and antiviral activity. These studies also support that the honey's biological activity is mainly dependent on its floral or geographic origin. In addition, some promising synergies between honey and antibiotics have been found, as well as some antiviral properties that require further investigation.     Expression of osteoprotegerin and its ligands, RANKL and TRAIL, in rheumatoid arthritis

    Osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor-?B ligand (RANKL) and tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) have been involved in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) pathophysiology. In this study, we assessed messenger RNA (mRNA) expression of these molecules by qPCR in peripheral blood from 26 patients with RA (12 of them with ischemic heart disease -IHD) and 10 healthy controls. Correlation coefficients between OPG, RANKL and TRAIL expression levels in RA patients and their clinical and demographic characteristics were also evaluated. Whereas OPG and OPG/TRAIL ratio expression were significantly increased in RA patients compared to controls (fold change?=?1.79, p?=?0.013 and 2.07, p?=?0.030, respectively), RANKL/OPG ratio was significantly decreased (fold change?=?0.50, p?=?0.020). No significant differences were found between patients and controls in RANKL and TRAIL expression. Interestingly, TRAIL expression was significantly higher in RA patients with IHD compared to those without IHD (fold change?=?1.46, p?=?0.033). Moreover, biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) significantly decreased RANKL expression in RA patients (p?=?0.016). Our study supports an important role of OPG and TRAIL in RA. Furthermore, it highlights an effect of biologic DMARDs in the modulation of RANKL

    Education can improve the negative perception of a threatened long-lived scavenging bird, the Andean condor

    Human-wildlife conflicts currently represent one of the main conservation problems for wildlife species around the world. Vultures have serious conservation concerns, many of which are related to people's adverse perception about them due to the belief that they prey on livestock. Our aim was to assess local perception and the factors influencing people's perception of the largest scavenging bird in South America, the Andean condor. For this, we interviewed 112 people from Valle Fértil, San Juan province, a rural area of central west Argentina. Overall, people in the area mostly have an elementary education, and their most important activity is livestock rearing. The results showed that, in general, most people perceive the Andean condor as an injurious species and, in fact, some people recognize that they still kill condors. We identified two major factors that affect this perception, the education level of villagers and their relationship with livestock ranching. Our study suggests that conservation of condors and other similar scavengers depends on education programs designed to change the negative perception people have about them. Such programs should be particularly focused on ranchers since they are the ones who have the worst perception of these scavengers. We suggest that highlighting the central ecological role of scavengers and recovering their cultural value would be fundamental to reverse their persecution and their negative perception by people.Fil: Cailly Arnulphi, Verónica Beatríz.     SEND: a system for electronic notification and documentation of vital sign observations

    Background: Recognising the limitations of a paper-based approach to documenting vital sign observations and responding to national clinical guidelines, we have explored the use of an electronic solution that could improve the quality and safety of patient care. We have developed a system for recording vital sign observations at the bedside, automatically calculating an Early Warning Score, and saving data such that it is accessible to all relevant clinicians within a hospital trust. We have studied current clinical practice of using paper observation charts, and attempted to streamline the process. We describe our user-focussed design process, and present the key design decisions prior to describing the system in greater detail. Results: The system has been deployed in three pilot clinical areas over a period of 9 months. During this time, vital sign observations were recorded electronically using our system. Analysis of the number of observations recorded (21,316 observations) and the number of active users (111 users) confirmed that the system is being used for routine clinical observations. Feedback from clinical end-users was collected to assess user acceptance of the system. This resulted in a System Usability Scale score of 77.8, indicating high user acceptability. Conclusions: Our system has been successfully piloted, and is in the process of full implementation throughout adult inpatient clinical areas in the Oxford University Hospitals. Whilst our results demonstrate qualitative acceptance of the system, its quantitative effect on clinical care is yet to be evaluated

    Analysis of the Websites of Public Secondary Schools of Cantabria (Spain)

    Resumen: Con la profunda transformación social que ha provocado la integración de las TIC en nuestro día a día, los modos de comunicación en el mundo educativo han evolucionado hacia internet y hacia un universo en red. Este hecho ha convertido a las páginas web de los centros educativos, entre otros elementos, en herramientas catalizadoras del panorama escolar. Con la finalidad de conocer la presentación de los contenidos de dichas páginas ante sus diferentes públicos se ha llevado a cabo en el presente trabajo una investigación para analizar las sedes web de los cuarenta y ocho centros públicos de Educación Secundaria de la Comunidad Autónoma de Cantabria. El análisis se ha llevado a cabo en relación a su contenido, organización, navegación, apariencia, diferenciación, velocidad, utilidad y accesibilidad. Los resultados obtenidos revelan cifras realmente alentadoras, como que sólo un 27?08% y 14?58% muestran deficiencias en su organización y claridad. Cabe destacar por otro lado, que la nota media de los sitios web en utilidad para las partes interesadas es de un 8?19 de valoración en su conjunto. Nos encontramos en líneas generales ante sitios webs con un claro carácter progresivo, activo e interactivo, aunque es posible concluir sugiriendo algunas mejoras como facilitar una difusión más rica de recursos útiles, así como suministrar una mayor exposición de los planes y proyectos más importantes del centro en algún apartado de las páginas web de los centros educativos.Abstract: With the profound social transformation that has led to the integration of ICT in our day to day, modes of communication in the educational world have evolved towards the Internet and towards a networked universe. This fact has turned the web pages of educational centers, among other elements, into catalytic tools for the school panorama. In order to know the presentation of the contents of these pages to their different audiences a research has been carried out in the present work to analyze the web sites of the forty-eight public secondary education centers of the Autonomous Community of Cantabria. The analysis has been carried out in relation to its content, organization, navigation, appearance, differentiation, speed, utility and accessibility. The results obtained reveal really encouraging figures, such as that only 27'08% and 14'58% show deficiencies in their organization and clarity. It should be noted on the other hand, that the average score of the websites in utility for the interested parties is of an 8'19 valuation as a whole. We are generally in front of websites with a clear progressive, active and interactive character, although it is possible to conclude by suggesting some improvements such as facilitating a richer dissemination of useful resources, as well as providing a greater exposure of the most important plans and projects of the center in some section of the web pages of educational centers
