This paper focuses on the publications of the journal Anales de Psicología, analysing the scientific growth in the field of psychology. The period of time studied covers the last 21 years evolution of the Journal, from 1984 to 2004, although we must realize that in 1988 this journal was not published, and for that reason we have just analysed 20 years. Regarding the bibliometric methodology, published researches have been analysed focusing on its number and average per year, authors per research, distribution of their productivity and collaboration links between them, disclosing the most relevant invisible schools. Moreover, it has been performed not only a detailed analysis of the institutions to which authors belong but also gender percentage between researchers who publish in Anales de Psicología.

Juan Vidal, F.; Merlo, A.; Rodríguez Navarro, P.; Lara Ortega, S. (-)-Oleacein and (-)-oleocanthal, two phenolic compounds present in Extra Virgin Olive Oil, inhibit angiogenesis

Phenolic compounds in the Mediterranean diet contribute to many of the health-related benefits accounted in this dietary choice. (-)-Oleocanthal and the less studied (-)-oleacein, are two phenolic compounds present in the Extra Virgin Olive Oil that have shown anti-tumoural effects both in vitro and in vivo. Among their effects on cancer, they could inhibit tumour cell migration and invasion, key processes also in angiogenesis, the process by which de novo blood vessels are formed. Herein, we explored the anti-angiogenic potential of (-)-oleocanthal and (-)-oleacein in a comparative study in in vitro experiments on endothelial cells, and in two in vivo models. (-)-Oleocanthal and (-)-oleacein affected endothelial viability in the micromolar range, as well as the formation of tubule-like structures by these cells, and their migration. Interestingly, only oleacein inhibited cell migration and induced apoptosis significantly. Regarding cellular signalling, both compounds were able to reduce the activation of the AKT and ERK1/2 pathways, which are related to survival and proliferation, respectively. Finally, both compounds showed anti-angiogenic activity in a zebrafish model of regeneration and in the chicken chorioallantoic membrane. Altogether, these results support the anti-angiogenic potential of (-)-oleocanthal and (-)-oleacein, and suggest that (-)-oleacein exerts more potent effects on endothelial cell migration and induction of apoptosis. Thus, we propose these two phenolic compounds, with a special focus on (-)-oleacein, as new candidates for clinical use as anti-cancer and anti-angiogenic agents.

    Get PDF
In the present work we approach the scientistic trayectory of the Revista de Psicología del Deporte (Journal of the Psychology of Sport) from its origins in the year of 1992. It research becomes to special outstanding because in our country this discipline still keeps its growing development due to its youth and, specially, because after a few decades of intense work, the future perspectives are a more consolidation of the scientistic topics approached. From this view it has been made an bibliometic analysis of different sides, that will help to a better understanding of the mentioned development. For this aim it has been described the essential aspects in every kind of analysis, as the most productive authors, the institutions where the major scientistic production is made, the fundamental subjects of study, among others. The results are supporting the first confirmation that, in fact, the consolidation of this discipline is real

(−)-Methyl-Oleocanthal, a New Oleocanthal Metabolite Reduces LPS-Induced Inflammatory and Oxidative Response: Molecular Signaling Pathways and Histones Epigenetic Modulation

    Get PDF
The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory responses of (−)-methyl-oleocanthal (met-OLE), a new metabolite of the extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) phenolic oleocanthal (OLE), were explored in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced murine peritoneal macrophages. Possible signaling pathways and epigenetic modulation of histones were studied. Met-OLE inhibited LPS-induced intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitrite (NO) production and decreased the overexpression of the pro-inflammatory enzymes COX-2, mPGES-1 and iNOS in murine macrophages. In addition, met-OLE was able to significantly decrease the activation of p38, JNK, and ERK mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) and blocked canonical and non-canonical inflammasome signaling pathways. On the contrary, met-OLE upregulated haem oxigenase 1 (HO-1) and nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf-2) expression in treated cells. Finally, met-OLE pretreated spleen cells counteracted LPS induction, preventing H3K18 acetylation or H3K9 and H3K27 demethylation. Overall, these results provide novel mechanistic insights into the beneficial effects of met-OLE regarding the regulation of the immune–inflammatory response through epigenetic changes in histone markers. This revealing evidence suggests that the methylated metabolite of OLE may contribute significantly to the beneficial effects that are associated with the secoiridoid-related compound and the usual consumption of EVOO.España Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad grant number AG-2017-89342-PJunta de Andalucía funded by CTS-259, FQM-18

Relation Between Oceanic Plate Structure, Patterns of Interplate Locking and Microseismicity in the 1922 Atacama Seismic Gap

    Get PDF
We deployed a dense geodetic and seismological network in the Atacama seismic gap in Chile. We derive a microseismicity catalog of >30,000 events, time series from 70 GNSS stations, and utilize a transdimensional Bayesian inversion to estimate interplate locking. We identify two highly locked regions of different sizes whose geometries appear to control seismicity patterns. Interface seismicity concentrates beneath the coastline, just downdip of the highest locking. A region with lower locking (27.5°S–27.7°S) coincides with higher seismicity levels, a high number of repeating earthquakes and events extending toward the trench. This area is situated where the Copiapó Ridge is subducted and has shown previous indications of both seismic and aseismic slip, including an earthquake sequence in 2020. While these findings suggest that the structure of the downgoing oceanic plate prescribes patterns of interplate locking and seismicity, we note that the Taltal Ridge further north lacks a similar signature

Polyunsaturated aldehydes from large phytoplankton of the Atlantic Ocean Surface (42ºN to 33ºS)

Polyunsaturated aldehydes (PUAs) are organic compounds mainly produced by diatoms, after cell wounding. These compounds are increasingly reported as teratogenic for species of grazers and deleterious for phytoplanktonic species, but there is still scarce information regarding concentration ranges and the composition of PUAs in the open ocean. In this study, we analyzed the spatial distribution and the type of aldehydes produced by the large-sized (>10 μm) phytoplankton in the Atlantic Ocean surface. Analyses were conducted on PUAs released after mechanical disruption of the phytoplankton cells, referred to here as potential PUAs (pPUAs). Results show the ubiquitous presence of pPUA in the open ocean, including upwelling areas, as well as oligotrophic gyres. Total pPUA concentrations ranged from zero to 4.18 pmol from cells in 1 L. Identified PUAs were heptadienal, octadienal and decadienal, with heptadienal being the most common (79% of total stations). PUA amount and composition across the Atlantic Ocean was mainly related to the nitrogen:phosphorus ratio, suggesting nutrient-driven mechanisms of PUA production. Extending the range of trophic conditions considered by adding data reported for productive coastal waters, we found a pattern of PUA variation in relation to trophic status
