Advancing on the road of psychological differentiation of sportsmen. Examples in differences in sex and sport mode
Psychological descriptions of athletes should not be constrained to a list of abilities. Rather, they require descriptions of relations among its priority, variability or compensation within a person-sport system. The sample (N=623), mean age 23.96, is randomly distributed by sex (male=64.8%, female=35.2%) and type of sport (individual=32.58%; team=67.41%). Variables such as personality, motivation, and beliefs in sport success are analysed. Variability among athletes´ qualities has an impact on their relationships with others; in particular, women are gentler, as well as more persistent and determined, while men are more stable and sociable in team sports, and show greater open-mindedness in individual sports, more extrinsic motivational orientation, and beliefs of effort to succes in women and individual sports. The personsport relationship is a framework for discovering and learning which attitudes are involved in the development of traits such as responsibility, achievement, self-control, achievement motivation, persistence of effort, as well as other relevant intermediary processes
Effect of fluorination on the molecule–substrate interactions of pentacene/Cu(1 0 0) interfaces
By means of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and nearedge
X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS), we study and compare the crystalline and electronic
structure of fluorinated and non-fluorinated pentacene fims on Cu(1 0 0). Pentacene perfluorination
strongly affects its electronic structure both in the bulk and at the metal–organic interface. While the azimuthal
anisotropy of the molecule–substrate interactions on Cu(1 0 0) remains unaffected by the fluorination,
the interaction mechanisms, as concluded from their effect on the core-levels and on the
conduction band of the respective molecules, show a completely disparate behaviour.Peer reviewe
Effect of photoelectron mean free path on the photoemission cross-section of Cu(111) and Ag(111) Shockley states
The photoemission cross-section of Shockley states of Cu(111) and Ag(111) surfaces is studied over a wide range of photon energies. The constant initial-state spectra are very different for the two surfaces and show rich structure that does not follow the generally accepted nearly free electron model for the final state. Angle resolved photoemission data are interpreted within a one-step ab initio theory, revealing a multiple Bloch wave structure of photoemission final states. The inelastic scattering parameter-optical potential-is determined, and the energy dependence of the mean free path of the outgoing electron is calculated, which turns out to be the key for the understanding of the photoemission cross-section curve. These are essential steps for future exploration of wave function perturbations in the presence of surface nanostructures. 2011 American Physical Society. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación (Grants No. FIS2010-19609-C02-02, FIS2008-00399, MAT2010-21156-C03-01, and MAT2010-21156-C03-02 and through the Research Program Ramón y Cajal) and the Basque Government (IT-257-07).
The first part of the paper deals with the stratigraphical classification, terminology and nomenclature of units specially those mammal-bearing of Argentina. Difficulty is emphasized in applying stratigraphical codes in connexion with the stages and ages. Savage criteria is here adopted re- cognizing only Land-Mammal Ages. The second part analizes the criteria used for recognizing the Argentine Land-Mammals Ages specially those of the Province of Buenos Aires. An attempt is made to correlate them with those of Europe and North America. Finally a sistematic list ending with the genus with indication of “guide fossils” and “characteristic fossils”, etc., of each Land-Mammal Ages of the Province of Buenos Aires is displayed

Effectiveness of a stress management pilot program aimed at reducing the incidence of sports injuries in young football (soccer) players
Objectives Several attempts to reduce the incidence of sport injuries using psychosocial interventions produced fruitful, although inconclusive results. This paper presents the effectiveness and implementation issues of a pilot 3-month stress-management and muscle relaxation program aimed at reducing sport injury incidence. Design Pre-post treatment-non treatment group comparison. Program administration The program was administered by a trained psychologist on a once-a-week, 1-h session basis. Participants Seventy-four male soccer players from four National Youth league teams voluntarily participated. Teams were randomly assigned to either treatment/non-treatment group. Measures Injury protocol, Self-monitoring cards, Athletes' satisfaction and commitment survey, Coaches' interview. Results Group main effect and Time-Group interaction effect were both statistically significant, F(1,60) = 8.30, p = 0.005, η2p = 0.121, with the average number of injuries larger in the post-treatment phase of non-treatment group (p = 0.005, η2p = 0.077). There was a significant decrease in the average number of injuries for the intervention group before and after implementing the program (p < 0.001, η2p = 0.309). Conclusions A controlled implementation of a psychosocial program was effective in reducing youth soccer sport injuries, with a high level of satisfaction and commitment from the athletes, as well as high acceptance from the coachesThis research was supported by the Spanish MINECO (grant PSI2011-27000) and by the Murcia (Spain) Regional Football Association's Proyecto Fútbol, (grant FFRM-UMU-04 0092 321B 6450214704
The development of a mathematical model for an on-line algebraic identifier is presented in this work. This model is used for determining the unbalance and its related angular position on vibrating rotor-dynamic systems of multiple degrees of freedom. The proposed identifier was obtained from the basis of a finite element mathematical model for rotating systems of multiple degrees of freedom. The model was developed under the consideration of four degrees of freedom beam-type element, where rotational inertia, gyroscopic moments, shearing strains and inner and outer damping effects were included. The on time behavior of proposed identifier was assessed for unbalance identification and its related angular position; the constant-speed unbalanced vibration response obtained from numerical simulation was used as input data
Replicando a Seligman 1990
Optimism is considered a relevant parameter in sport performance and this study aims to analyse its effects in adverse circumstances. In this study, 66 swimmers (boys and girls) with an average age of 13.66 completed the same test at two different times. After the first test, they received negative feedback (a higher than real time) in order to check the effects on the second test. The results of this study were expected to replicate the study published by Seligman at Berkeley University in 1990. Interestingly, after such negative feedback, pessimists showed significant differences between the first and second tests. In contrast, although not statistically significant, our results indicate that all the swimmers whose performance improved in the second test had optimistic profiles. Finally, we discuss the use of evaluating and providing training in optimism for enhanced performance in competitive sports
